Hidden down alleyways, on street corners or on the bricks above the cityscape, Cincinnati’s fading advertisements hide in plain sight. These ghost signs still tout their wares and services, remnants of a bygone era. Each sign has a vivid story behind it unique to its era, product and craftsmanship. “Wall dogs” like sign artist Gus Holthaus left their marks on the city. A sign for the Beehive, the club and restaurant at the top of the arena, reminds residents of Cincinnati’s pro hockey team, the Stingers. Not many can remember “the Other Place,” but a hand-painted advertisement still adorns a city wall. Join author and photographer Ronny Salerno for a tour of Cincinnati’s vanishing signs and their intriguing history.

Outstanding Book - Must Read for any Resident of Cincinnati By AmericanGamer Being a local of the Greater-Cincinnati area, I was very curious about this book. What a pleasure it was to read! The author gives unique insight into the city's history through the stories of "fading advertisements" that are visible on the sides of the Cincinnati's buildings and residences. I have observed a few of these advertisements throughout the city, but it was shocking to see how many of these are hidden in plain sight. Until I read this book, I took for granted what many of these advertisements actually offered, reflections and stories that piece together much of Cincinnati's history. This book was very much like looking into a portal to the past, and the author should be extremely proud of the work he has done to preserve and prolong part of the city's history. I would recommend this book to anyone that lives or frequents Cincinnati!

By Denny Gibson This book won't stop the signs from fading but it will it will certainly help with the memory of them. Most of the images in the book were captured by Salerno over the summer and together provide something of a "hunting guide" for current explorers and a snapshot of the present for the future. A glimpse at the city's commercial history is provided through the stories behind many of the signs as well as their photos.

You can feel Mr. Salerno is very passionate about the Cincinnati region. The photography is beautiful and the way he shows us a time forgotten is breathtakingly simple. A must read or coffee table book for your whole family.
