I have a Jack Russell who sometimes gives my wife and I a hard time but after following a few of these steps our dog starts to listen and take orders well. Its hard to train an outside dog inside tricks but with a few steps from this book I started to see results pretty fast.

Including learning your puppies moods and even the best time to train. There is a section on house breaking that is very thorough. They also include a section on making your home safe for puppy. This is an important step many people miss. There were a few parts of the book I disagreed with.. The author states that puppies do not usually bond with women. That was a bizarre statement I fully disagree with. They also encourage leashing the pup as a discipline method. This is not something I would recommend if you want your pup to like the leash. Essentially a good basic training book without any filler. I received this book free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This opinion is my own..

The man's best friend By Jesus The man's best friend , the most helpful of the world or a ball of love, better known as the dog. eh I had several dogs throughout my life and I can ensure that these beautiful animals give everything for you and deliver all their love unconditionally , which is beautiful. I recently met a friend who trained pets and told me if I did not want to train my current dog ( a German Shepherd) and I accept the learner but to complement my dog and myself decided to read this book which tells us many things like conditioning the dog and many strategies that will serve to educate us in the best way possible ( with love above all ) to our pet can give the best of itself , very good book and gives us several sensational tips.

It's a very quick read, and leaves you wanting more. But that's not a bad thing since it seems more is coming.This book is just a taste, an introduction, to a different realm. The characters are interesting and make you want to know more of their story - but it's also satisfying on its own. I think we can expect big things and I'll be putting the author on my "must read" list.

Kidnapped is a historical fiction adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, written as a "boys' novel" and first published in the magazine Young Folks from May to July 1886. Stevenson By TS Originally written as a boy's adventure novel, modern readers will probably consider it more a book for adults. My father gave it to me when I was eight, after I'd read _Treasure Island_, and I disliked it then immensely, put off by the lack of plot movement, the Scots dialect, and the total absence of pirates. Re-reading it now on the Kindle, I admit it's a lot more enjoyable, partly because the Kindle's dictionary helps translate some of the Scots dialect, partly because I'm a more mature reader. The plot is fairly straightforward (skip this paragraph if you want to avoid spoilers): Our Hero, David Balfour, is tricked out of his rightful inheritance by an evil uncle, shanghaied, shipwrecked, partnered with a historical figure (one Alan Breck Stewart) and caught up in the events of an unsolved historical mystery (the "Appin Murder"). The body of the novel is a day-by-day description of their flight through the Scottish highlands, on the run from the Redcoat troops searching them out. Overall, the novel succeeds in creating some degree of tension and suspense, especially in the first half or so, with some classic melodrama elements. The latter half of the novel drags a bit, though, and would probably be less appealing to younger readers and more enjoyable for readers more interested in Stevenson's prose style. There is a great deal of Scots dialect, but the most obscure words are footnoted and some (but not all) of the less-obscure words are in the Kindle's dictionary. Overall, I'd recommend this highly to a fan of books like Sir Walter Scott's _Waverly_ or _Rob Roy_, or to anyone who had a particular love of historical fiction set in the 18th-century scottish highlands.There is a sequel, written by Stevenson, with the alternate titles of _David Balfour_ and _Catriona_. Those wishing more information about the "Appin Murder" can find a chapter discussing it in Andrew Lang's "Historical Mysteries" (also available as a free Kindle download).

47 of 49 people found the following review helpful. Don't let the kids have all the fun By G. B. Talovich I was surprised to see some reviewers didn't like this wonderful book. If you have trouble with the Scottish accent, read it out loud, use your imagination, and if you still can't figure it out, skip a bit. (Do you insist on understanding every single word spoken in a movie?)This is the story of a young man overcoming adversity to gain maturity and his birthright. It moves right along, in Stevenson's beautiful prose. Read, for example, this sentence from Chapter 12: "In those days, so close on the back of the great rebellion, it was needful a man should know what he was doing when he went upon the heather." Read it out loud; it rolls along, carrying the reader back to Scotland, even a reader like me, who doesn't know all that much about Scottish history. Kidnapped is by no means inferior, and in many ways superior to the more famous Treasure Island.Only two points I would like to bring up: I bought the Penguin Popular Classics issue, and have sort of mixed feelings. Maybe some day I'll get the version illustrated by Wyeth. I'm not sure whether this book needs illustrations, though. Stevenson's vivid writing is full of pictures.In Chapter 4, David makes a point of saying that he found a book given by his father to his uncle on Ebenezer's fifth birthday. So? Is this supposed to show how much Ebenezer aged due to his wickedness? If anybody could explain this to me, please do.This was originally posted in 2000. I am updating it in June 2006: many thanks to alert reader Beth Smith, who very kindly informed me that the significance is that David's father was older than the uncle. Therefore the father, and now David, was the rightful owner of the estate of Shaws.Ok, gotcha, clear now, and I'll reread it. Thanks to Ms Smith, and to Amazon for this forum.

34 of 35 people found the following review helpful. A Great Read By frumiousb I missed this one as a kid, which is too bad, because I think I would have appreciated it then as well. Set following the failed Scottish rebellion, 'Kidnapped' tells the story of young David Balfour, whose greedy uncle tries to cheat him out of his inheritance by having him kidnapped and sold in the American colonies as a slave. On the way, however, he befriends a Jacobite rebel and is instead caught up in the Scottish troubles and has to fight his way back to his home and claim his inheritance. The adventure is all the more exciting because it feels like such a real world with all the careful place-related detail Stevenson employs. While the language can be difficult in places, that quickly fades once you get into the rhythm of the book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Fairly good By janowacki Saint Martin's Summer is one of Sabatini's second-tier books, good but not great. The title refers to what we now call an Indian Summer, and in this novel it has a double meaning.The soldier Martin de Garnache is dispatched by the Queen Regent of France into Dauphiny to retrieve Mlle. Valérie de La Vauvraye, who managed to write her begging aid and deliverance from the Dowager Duchess of Condillac. The Duchess, her guardian and quite a powerful figure in the province, was prepared to force de La Vauvraye's marriage to her son, even though the girl was betrothed to the Duchess's absent stepson, the new Duke. Valérie views that more as a matter of pledged word than something for enthusiasm, however.Naturally, the Duchess is not thrilled about the royal intervention, and with the aid of the gross and besotted Seneschal of Dauphiny and some hired troops, she sets out to frustrate Garnache's mission.The middle-aged (for the era) soldier, meanwhile, wants little to do with feminine nonsense and finds the whole mission humiliating. But for him, duty is duty, and he finds the young lady more endearing as he faces tremendous obstacles in getting her away from Condillac. That feeling is reciprocated, and as matters are resolved Valérie points out that the morrow is Saint Martin's Day and though it is November it is yet warm. She tells Garnache, who understands the allusion, that he is still a long way yet from the November of his life.Though one of Sabatini's earlier novels, Saint Martin's Summer is pretty well done in terms of writing and story, and if you enjoyed some of his more well-known and more complex books, I would recommend this as well.

The plotting is tedious enough (much of it pointless) that I couldn't get through it. On the other hand, it's not in his usual mode with his usual stock characters and incidents.

Like most of these, this novel is available on-line, but, for me, it is much more enjoyable to read in book format. I, therefore, welcomed this inexpensive edition made available on Amazon.As other reviewers have noted, this novel lacks the complexity of plot and the depth of character of Sabatini's better known works such as Scaramouche or Bellarion, but, in my opinion, it makes up for it in its rollicking good humor and its robust action and sword play. It is like Dumas at his best without his moral ambiguities.I loved the ending of the story. It is popular, and must be saisfying, to witness someone with unlimited resources concoct a scheme of absolute, complete revenge. This popularity is clear from the great number of adaptations and new editions of The Count of Monte Cristo. But it is more satisfying, I believe, to see, as we do in this story, someone faced with very limited resources who, nevertheless, is able to concoct a scheme that enables him to execute almost perfect justice tempered by disciplined mercy. I think this story deserves to be better known.

Decent, but not great.Good for ages 4 through early tween By Amazon Customer This book isn't great, but it's decent and relatively accessible (even if Frozen is on its way "out" for your kids, like it is with mine). It has a couple of pages of hair care basics (wash, condition, trim regularly, etc.), some tips for adjusting for thick vs. thin hair, then provides details on how to:* no-heat curls (2 options)* curling with an iron (2 options)* elastic bands, bobby pins, ribbons* decorating a hairbrush with glitter* decorating hair pins with flowers, pearls, or ribbon* decorating a headband with an ornament, ribbons, yarn (for a "snowball"), flowers, or snowflake trim* decorating a hair comb with pearls, flowers, ribbon, and/or tinfoil ("icy!")* decorating an elastic band with flowers* 3 types of ponytail* 2 styles of braid* using the "Topsy Tail" or a "bun maker"* 3 slightly-more complicated hair stylesI found the pictures far more helpful than the accompanying text, though sometimes still not quite helpful enough, and the book does have some minor editing issues (like numbering things 1, 2, 22, 2c, 2d, 3), but overall you'll probably find a handful of things that are usable. The styles are probably good for ages 4ish through tween.

Girls who love Frozen will enjoy the colorful drawings and the photos of hairstyles that you can create, providing you have long hair. There isn't much for short hair, I'm afraid.I am puzzled by who the intended age group is. The description says ages 5 to 12, grade level 5 to 8. Aside from that discrepancy, I just don't see 12-year-olds as wanting a book that looks like a picture book for beginning readers. Yet the do-it-yourself advice is clearly aimed at the older children, since it involves hot instruments that you would not hand to a 5-year-old.That said, the hairstyle methods seem good for girls who want to dress up their long hair. How did girls curl their hair in the old days? A couple of options are illustrated. How do you make braids? How do you decorate a pony tail? It's all here.Personally I didn't like the advice to tease your hair. It seems unnecessarily damaging for delicate hair. Also, youngsters shouldn't really need so many hair products: custom-made hair oil, leave-in conditioner... well, at least they don't recommend dyes! I would have liked a side-bar for parents about avoiding the more toxic shampoos and conditioners.Anyway, the graphic design is award-worthy. For children under 12, I recommend that an adult read this and give appropriate advice before turning the child loose with a curling iron and a glue gun. Safety first!

My granddaughter, age 6, and such a fan of 'Frozen' will love this book. It is a nice size with very nice photographs if all the hairstyles and accessories used. The authors used real models for the hairstyles, and that will really appeal to young people.There are 94 pages of information about caring for your hair, hair products and how to use them, trucks for your hair- using Bobbi pins and elastic a, using ribbons in your hair; unique accessories like pearls, tiaras, ribbons, flowers, and bows; different hairstyles with explicit instructions in how to arrange your hair, with photographs to accompany the instructions. This is the best part of the book. I really like the different braids, and buns,and hairstyles. My granddaughter has long hair, and I can see that she will want to try every style. We have a lot if fun ahead.Recommend. prisrob 10-06-15

86 of 90 people found the following review helpful. Take a Tour of Europe and the Holy Land with Mark Twain the inimitable Missouri traveler By C. M Mills Mark Twain is the Lincoln of our literature. Sam Clemens (1835-1910) wrote Huckleberry Finn in 1885 which has been acclaimed as our greatest American novel. Lesser known are his wonderful travelogues: "Roughing It' "Following the Equator"; "Life on the Mississippi and "The Innocents Abroad" published in 1869. This book is worth reading even 140 years after its publication. Twain style is a joy to read for he was a born storyteller and communicates his thoughts well on the page. Twain was a reporter who joined the six month expedition to Europe and the Middle East on board the steamer "Quaker City." The pleasure tour hadbeen organized by the famous pastor Henry Ward Beecher (sibling of Harriet Ward Beecher) and Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman. Neither of these notable made the trip citing other obligations. Twain roomed with a young man from Elmira New York. He would later visit Elmira and meet his friend's sister Olivia. She would become his wife and the mother of the couple's three daughters. The Innocents Abroad is a long book of 400,000 words covering over 500 densely written pages. Twain takes a sardonic, humorous view of European art as he guides us through the Louvre, Florence Italy and Rome. We visit London, Paris and meet with Czar Alexander II in the Crimea. Twain had a keen reporter's eye and a humorist's ability to paint word pictures of his fellow passengers,tour guides and natives of the fascinating cities and countries he visited on a busy itinerary. As a Presbyterian pastor I found the most interesting part of the book dealt with Twain's tour of Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece and Israel. He was upset by the filth, disease and cruelty he saw in the land of Moses and Jesus Christ. Despite all his asides and digressions the observant reader can gain a good picture of what these places were like in 1869. Twain was an agnostic but knew his Bible. Mark Twain was our greatest author. In this fine book you will get to know this fascinating man better as he shares his globe trotting journey with his readers.

By A Customer Ok, maybe that is a minor overstatement, but this is one hilarous book, to be read by people who have travelled, who plan to travel, and generally, people who want to laugh. A lot.The book is also surprising for its timeless points about the journeying of certain upper white, middle class people going on a grand tour of Europe. I frequently had to remind myself that it was written in 1869 because his observations and the behavior of his shipmates is so close to the way people I studied abroad with acted-only a few years ago.Twain also puts those "cosmopolitan" people who claim to have traveled, but don't know anything about any place they have been but and just like to lord it over everyone else that they have "travelled" and you have not.Reading this book is like listening to a very wise, old man tell you about his adventures. Its not like a book, more like one long conversation. Twain takes nothing seriously-not himself, his fellow travelers or the places they visit. The words are another adventure-sometimes, you know he is setting you up for something, other times he is serious for a while, then you end up in the middle of a joke.I know this is against the rules, but the other posters who don't like this book-don't be so serious and p.c. all the time. Twain is making humorous observations, at a time when a different standard was acceptable. Not to mention, he does manage to get a few zingers in there about what people are willing to accept and what they do not.You will laugh yourself silly and want to book a trip-not to Europe, just to anywhere, after reading this book.

44 of 49 people found the following review helpful. Twain, the Terrible Tourist By Stephen A. Haines Cliches aside, retrieving the outlook of mid-19th Century isn't easy. Having successfully concluded the upheaval of the War Between the States, the people of the USA, while bruised, felt confident. Their sense of righteousness was enhanced - they'd quelled a rebellion and freed slaves. Some took that attitude to other lands. The 1867 SS Quaker City excursion to Europe and the "Holy Land" was but one of those forays. It was special in that it carried one of the more discerning observers the United States had produced - Sam Clemens of Hannibal, Missouri and points West. He was to post letters to the San Francisco newspaper "Daily Alta California" describing the journey. The trip and the account opened Clemens' eyes and those of his readers over numerous legends.In Clemens' baggage was a strong religious sense imparted by his mother, Jane. This cargo was balanced by Twain's more worldly experience on the Mississippi and his life in the mining communities in the West. When he crossed the gangplank to board the steamer, his gaze was sceptical and his pen ascerbic. His portrayal of the Quaker City's passengers began as they traversed the Atlantic, but it is his depiction of "foreigners" in their homelands that both shocks and enlightens. Starting with the Azores stopover, Clemens' observations of the islands are a tribute to their charms. Of the people, however, he has little positive to impart. They are dirty, noisy, conniving and devious. In general, they're "not American".The use of the "innocents" is exemplified by Twain's description of contact with the Europeans. Educated in the minimal language training of the day, the travellers struggled to impart their wishes in French shops and restaurants. Twain seems to lay responsibility for this on the French "failure to understand their own language", but his description of the exchanges makes it clear where the problem lay. There was another side to this coin, however. Europeans were caught up in their own affairs. The United States was a remote and unknown element to them - "they'd had a war with somebody recently". Twain notes his shipmates were even then tinged with the arrogance that would fully blossom later. Respect for "tradition" had a variety of expressions in the "Quaker City" passengers. Twain depicts them all with delightful detachment.As the ship made landfall in Mediterranean ports, Clemens and his comrades visit the "standard" tourist haunts. Paris is a must, Genoa is a treat, Rome is a maze of cathedrals and art galleries. Quickly disenchanted with "guides" he renames them all "Ferguson" and rebukes them at every opportunity. Michaelangelo seems so pervasive in Rome that the Pilgrims ask if Greek or Egyptian artefacts are his work - to the consternation of the "Ferguson" of the day. Twain's flexibility and ability to adapt to events leads some of the "innocents" to take the train from Rome to Naples - a city under quarantine. While the "Quaker City" lies still in the harbour, Twain and his companions tour the city and visit Vesuvius. A similar ploy works in Greece.It is in the "Holy Land" that Clemens' descriptive powers and distrust of "authorities" flowers most brilliantly. Like many of his fellow passengers, he's been subjected to many tales from "Scripture" and a spate of earlier travel writers in Palestine. Unable to criticise the Bible outright, he lets the words speak for themselves, allowing logic and common sense to question dogma. The effusive travel writers, who had insisted Palestine was a "paradise" are brought out in contrast with Twain's observations of the barren desolation that was the Levant. He is scathing in his criticism of people who fabricate conditions there in order to sell their books. His veracity, of course, nearly had the opposite effect. "The Innocents Abroad" manuscript was originally rejected by Twain's publisher.Sam Clemens' reputation was "made" with this book. It touched on many aspects of how people in the United States viewed themselves and the world. The subtle, but incisive, comments on tradition and legend were seeds finding fertile ground in a dynamic nation setting the practical foremost. "Innocents" was a challenge to dogmas and a paean to the sense of "realism" that permeated the post-Civil War era. The "Romantic" Era, still evident in mid-19th Century in the earlier accounts of Palestine, would be whisked aside. "Innocents" would be instrumental in that sweeping it away. The other books were all classics but this one was the best of the lot. The book had a message that applied to both my 2 year old daughter and my 29 year old daughter. It was beautiful and I found myself tearing up at the end of the book. My daughter loved the pictures and has had me read the book to her quite a few times.

When I read "The Spirit of Christmas" I knew it was the one for this year. It is rhyming, which I love, and told in first person by a mother, or grandmother,or a favorite aunt, or simply the giver of the book. The spirit of Christmas comes to her and tries to help her feel the spirit of Christmas. He names several things the spirit of Christmas brings: "Bells, he said, Jingle bells! Bells right away! Bells on a one horse galloping sleigh" and "Snow that lies silent, As quiet as a mouse, And roads that all lead to your grandmother's house." Near the end he reminds her that the season was started by a child and that's when it dawns on her, "That's when I got it! That's when I knew! The thing that was missing from Christmas was you!" My daughter-in-law read it and I ask her what she thought of it and she said, "I think you love us." That is true.

I purchased one for my little niece and I look forward to reading it to her at Christmastime.This book is an absolute MUST for everyone's library! I would suggest that you buy one for someone you love AND buy one for the gift giving that is available in all of our cities for the underprivileged children.The Spirit of Christmas has messages that will warm your heart. Sure, the children definitely "win" by having this book read to them, or by reading it themselves, but as an adult, you will find your spirit deeply touched by these words. Leventhal The elegant prose of a professional writer makes this well researched exposition of a local transportation system within east coast America's history a fascinating read for any maritime history buff. Even better for me, one who lives in a riparian site on the upper Chester River, I love learning more about a region that is one of America's hidden treasures. Shaun describes our river by saying, "The shoreline of the Chester River today is probably much the same as it was in colonial times and remains largely undeveloped." The Chester River is quintessentially rural in nature and contains quiet arboreal beauty, an ornithological treasure house, and a delightful challenge for recreational boating. Shaun provides us with a panoramic view of early steam-powered vessels that facilitated the socio-economic evolution of the Chesapeake Bay region through the maritime connection between Baltimore and the Eastern Shore. The array of unique photographs, rescued from historical dustbins, greatly enhances the narrative, and, I must confess, added to my enjoyment of this piece of history--appealing greatly to my nautically nerdy soul. The literature of Maryland's Eastern Shore is greatly enhanced by Jack Shaum's labor-of-love in this book.

Lost Chester River Steamboats is among the best Chesapeake Bay focused nonfiction I've read in 2015. I look forward to future works written by Jack Shaum.

By Bill This title should be in the library of anyone interested in Chesapeake Bay Maritime history as well as the steamboat era in this country in general. The author is probably as knowledgeable about the maritime history of the Bay as anyone around today. The book is well researched and written and covers many aspects of local steam-boating on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Moore Though not Joseph Conrad's most ambitious or important work, Typhoon is a strong short novel that fans will enjoy. Conciseness and straight-forwardness make it a good place for neophytes to start, as one will not get the most out of Conrad's most complex works by jumping right into them, but those who want to read the best first should get at least six of his other pieces before this.Like nearly all Conrad, Typhoon can be enjoyed on a very basic level as an exciting adventure. As the title suggests, the majority of the action describes a typhoon's monumental effects, specifically how it impacts a ship. The extended scene portraying it is one of the best of its kind. We get a powerful impression of nature's astounding force and just how insignificant humanity and its creations can be in the face of it.Engrossing as this is, it is of course really just fodder for Conrad's larger themes, the most immediate being the vast amount of things beyond humanity's control; for all our arrogance, there are many situations where we can do little or no more than sit back - or, in this case, hold on - and hope for the best. Typhoon is also in part a bildungsroman, though a somewhat unconventional one. The middle-aged Captain Macwhirr is ostensibly the protagonist, but the young Chief Mate Jukes takes center stage here. He enters the voyage with a considerable ego and pokes much fun at the literal-minded Macwhirr but comes to see that, for all his eccentricities, the latter's simple practicality, level-headedness, and strict determination are not without worth. Hapless as Macwhirr may be in numerous ways, he succeeds where many - perhaps most - ostensibly more intelligent people would fail. Jukes comes to see his value even if he cannot bring himself to give all deserved credit. The same is true of other characters to a lesser degree. Macwhirr himself also learns something in the course of the tale; though experienced and in many ways competent, he had never sailed through harsh weather and is tested in a way he never thought he would be. His near-surreal stubbornness means he perhaps did not learn nearly as much as he should have, but he made it through after all. Conrad leaves it open whether this is due to subtle strength or pure luck; it is certainly debatable whether Macwhirr is capable and even heroic in his own way or simply a fool. In any case, he and other characters find that, as he repeatedly says, you can't learn everything from books; Conrad leaves no doubt that there is often no substitute for experience.The setting and some of the action are very similar to several other Conrad works, but Typhoon also has its own strengths and is in some ways unusual. For example, characterization is very strong - not in the sense of being rounded, Macwhirr in particular being almost a Dickensian caricature, but in being simply memorable. The characters may be archetypes but are very entertaining - and many readers will see people they know in them. Typhoon is also quite humorous, which is surprising in an author whose humor is nearly always black in the rare cases where it exists at all. Macwhirr is of course the butt of much comic fodder, but there is a light-heartedness to many descriptions outside the central scene. Some, such as those in the sailors' households, have satirical bite, which will please those who miss Conrad's cynicism, but those who normally find him too dark may well be pleasantly surprised overall.This is certainly not Conrad's strongest story; the frustratingly abrupt way in which the storm's second half is passed over even seems to suggest he grew bored with the work and rushed toward the end. I personally think further storm descriptions would have simply been too much, and he perhaps thought so too, but there certainly should have been a less jerky transition. Some will also dislike the indirect narration toward the end, but I found it a successful, if not overly ambitious, experiment from an author renowned for constantly pushing narrative's proverbial envelope. More fundamentally, Typhoon lacks the astonishing psychological depth and dense philosophical dramatization that were always Conrad's top strengths. The latter is here to a certain extent but far less so than elsewhere, automatically putting the book below his best, though some of the other elements partly atone.All told, anyone interested in Conrad should read this, but those coming to it early should be aware that it is not representative of his best work.

No great themes or deep subtleties involved. So I'd mainly suggest this for young readers who should find man vs storm exciting enough.

One of many Conrad masterworks By OldSoldierSix Worth reading just to admire Conrad's mastery of language, made even more impressive because he was born Jozef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, in Poland in 1857. He knew only a few words in English as a teenager, did not read or write English at all until he was in his twenties, yet all of his books - classics which have influenced dozens of modern writers - were written in English. His 20-plus years at sea on sailing vessels, roaming all the world's oceans in every position from deck hand to master (captain) for the French and British merchant fleets, gave him a deep and rich understanding of the sea - and the men who sailed upon it. His descriptions of the sea in all its moods and his development of characters are superb.

From School Library Journal Grade 5-7-With a full cast and some background music, this radio play version of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic hits the high points of the original novel. It is quite abbreviated, so each episode in Anne's orphan-girl-made-good story is afforded just enough time to lay out the bones of the plot. However, Anne's spunky and endearing character shines through scene after scene, as does some of the nostalgic charm of Avonlea's Canadian setting and quaint old Green Gables. All the parts are read very well, with a touching intensity that makes up for some of the brevity of plot episodes. A narrator fills in quite smoothly between the scenes for each event. Two nice features for young listeners make this a useful introduction to audio fiction. There is a pleasant chime played at the end of each side, and at the beginning of each side a line or two from the preceding side is repeated, helping to move listeners smoothly through the break in the action. This entertaining version may help lead youngsters to the original novel. School and public libraries seeking to add abridged novels to their collections or to introduce or entice young readers to longer fiction will want to consider this version.Jane P. But at 71 years of age I found myself in a house full of books only one of which I had not read. I am terrribly addicted to reading so, in desperation, I started "Anne of Green Gables". It is a marvelous book with a main character I wish I could meet every day in real life. Again to feed my addiction I bought the "Anne of Green Gables" series. Each book was a delight and I soon forgot that they were "girls" books. Maud created a character we all need in our life. She turns the mundane magical and believable. Reading them all in nearly a continous setting makes Anne "wearying" to quote Marilla since unbounded child-like wonder is hard to maintain. I wish I had read these books decades ago so Anne could have helped me through some less than happy times.

Great collection By Amanda Oster I think it goes without saying that I love the Anne books, so I will keep my review to one strictly of this Kindle edition.While I am only about half through the first book (and will certainly update my review if it changes), I'm pretty thrilled with this collection. It's exactly as the description claims: it's easy to jump from one book to another using the Table of Contents. Once you reach the desired book, it is easy to jump from chapter to chapter. I'm giving this only four stars, because the editing isn't perfect; I've noticed a couple odd words and phrases. (Example: "Parthian shot" became "Parthian shaft.") Thus far, however, they are minor and have not significantly impacted my enjoyment. And for the price (I paid $0.99), it's certainly not a big deal.Over all, I highly recommend this collection. As I stated, if my opinion changes as I read further, I will certainly update my review.

I chose this edition after sampling various other less quality versions on Amazon. The eBook is very well formatted and reads like a charm on my Kindle 2. As a long-time Anne of Green Gables reader, having this compilation is great for when I feel like revisiting Anne of Avonlea or Anne's House of Dreams. These are truly wonderful stories and you just get lost in the world of Green Gables thanks to Lucy Maud Montgomery's fantastic use of imagery.Just get this edition and let Anne take you on a wonderful journey!
