The first book in the Chicken of the Sea trilogy concludes with Victor Joshua Walker’s family safely reunited in the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia; however, his father’s paranoia is unchanged. Chicken Too begins two weeks later. The sun is a fireball on the horizon when Victor’s grandmother sees a ship steaming towards them. A near collision leaves the Spray without an engine and drenched from bow to stern. They divert to Tahiti to make repairs, only to discover that Victor is still in great danger. His father relocates to nearby Moorea, rebuilding the Spray’s engine while the rest of the family stays at a luxurious tropical resort hotel. What should have been very enjoyable, turns tragic. With a $100,000 reward on Victor’s head, each new port is a step closer to disaster. Despite murderous Russians and Filipino pirates, the Walker family, like the truth, remains just out of reach. Despite losing almost everything, Victor is never closer to his father than when they arrive in Australia. A breathtaking conclusion leaves Victor more confident, wiser, and with a family he never expected.

All captured wonderfully thru the eyes of a great author, with a knowledge of many places, vast sailing experience, and sense of adventure. Patiently waiting for book three. Keep up the good work, my friend.

Her world building skills take you to a future sci-fi world that rivals the likes of Herbert’s Dune and Clarke’s Space Odyssey. Innovation abounds in future years attesting to the powerful imagination of the writer. I promise you will root for the characters, in particular Joe who has so many burdens to carry, to escape from their off-earth prison as they face obstacles being thrown at them from all quarters. The cleaver beginning alone was a delicious surprise and kept me reading well past bedtime. I look forward to the next installment and hope I can impress on the writer the need to finish that one soon!

Great Sci fi adventure By Joan Carney In Book Two of the Chronicles of Storn, The symbiotic relationship between Earth, Luna and Mars is dissolving as Earth becomes uninhabitable. A new home for humanity must be found and Joe, along with his loyal crew and a few million refugees, is tasked to journey further than anyone’s ever been in search of that home.I agree with other reviewers that Ms. Gill’s world building skills are excellent. The settings on the ships and planets, the costumes, the AI units are all drawn such that they were easy to visualize in my mind. Part two of the story becomes an exciting adventure as the rescuers face the danger and challenges of a new world. My only complaint about this book, and the reason I deducted one star, was the large amount of backstory that slowed the beginning. I understand the information was important if the reader missed book one, but I think an introduction summarizing it may have been a better way to go.Regardless, this was good reading and I recommend it to all Sci fi fans.

I'm going to read the next one (Dirtsiders) slowly, so as not to have too much of a gap between it and Caverns. I really love the world she has created, interesting and alien without being implausible.

From the author of Like No Other, the novel Entertainment Weekly calls "One of the most poignant and star-crossed love stories since The Fault in Our Stars": What if the last hope to save your family is the person who broke it up to begin with? "Fans of John Green, Rainbow Rowell, and Sharon Flake will find much to love in [Don't Fail Me Now]." --School Library Journal   Michelle and her little siblings Cass and Denny are African-American and living on the poverty line in urban Baltimore, struggling to keep it together with their mom in jail and only Michelle’s part-time job at the Taco Bell to sustain them.   Leah and her stepbrother Tim are white and middle class from suburban Maryland, with few worries beyond winning lacrosse games and getting college applications in on time.   Michelle and Leah only have one thing in common: Buck Devereaux, the biological father who abandoned them when they were little.   After news trickles back to them that Buck is dying, they make the uneasy decision to drive across country to his hospice in California. Leah hopes for closure; Michelle just wants to give him a piece of her mind.   Five people in a failing, old station wagon, living off free samples at food courts across America, and the most pressing question on Michelle’s mind is: Who will break down first--herself or the car? All the signs tell her they won’t make it. But Michelle has heard that her whole life, and it’s never stopped her before....   Una LaMarche triumphs once again with this rare and compassionate look at how racial and social privilege affects one family in crisis in both subtle and astonishing ways.

Don't Fail Me Now, by Una LaMarche

From School Library Journal Gr 6 Up—Michelle, an 17-year-old biracial teen, is almost through with high school in urban Baltimore. This is a blessing and a curse because school has been a reprieve from caring for her younger siblings when their mother, an addict, fails to adequately care for them. Her father is no longer a part of their lives, having left them for another woman and his child with her. They know that they have a half-sister but know little about her. Right after her mother is arrested on a drug charge, Michelle is approached by Tim, the older stepbrother of her half-sister, and is surprised to discover that he and Leah are both white and living in the nearby suburbs. Leah has heard from their father and he is dying. So, all five children get in an old car and head for a hospice in California. The road trip is an eye-opening experience for all of them. This is an excellent look at how race and socioeconomic status can impact children's lives. It draws into sharp relief how this impacts decision-making and perceptions. It also does not shy away from mental health issues and how difficult it is to get help for them when one lives in poverty. It is also a great look at family relationships. The characters are well developed and relatable. Serious issues are tempered with humor for a very readable novel. VERDICT Fans of John Green, Rainbow Rowell, and Sharon Flake will find much to love in this novel.—Kristin Anderson, Columbus Metropolitan Library System, OH

Review "Perfect pacing and engaging characters will draw readers in, and they will empathize as the mismatched group of kids figures out what family really means. LaMarche’s poignant novel examines many tough issues and does so within a story that sings with hope."--Booklist"A highly relevant and necessary part of our conversation about race, poverty, and privilege. This is a must read."--Voice of Youth Advocates "A fantastic look at the dynamics of every kind of family."—Refinery29"[Michelle's] determination to survive in spite of everything is convincing, and her voice rings true. This story of teen resilience will resonate with readers."--Kirkus Reviews "Una LaMarche gave us the swoons last year with Like No Other, and this time around she turns her attention from forbidden first love to a complicated family. But, don't worry, Don't Fail Me Now has the same poignant observations of racial and societal privilege weaved into a memorable story that you love her for."--Bustle "An excellent look at how race and socioeconomic status can impact children’s lives... Serious issues are tempered with humor for a very readable novel. Fans of John Green, Rainbow Rowell, and Sharon Flake will find much to love in [Don't Fail Me Now]." --School Library Journal

Bristol Running away in young adult novels nowadays isn't quite the same as it was in the pre-GPS/Amber Alerts/social media days. (Can you imagine what would have happened to Huck and Jim if someone had installed a monitoring device in their cell phones?) This is something seventeen-year-old biracial Michelle Devereaux soon discovers when she takes her younger brother and sister and leaves home to seek out their estranged, dying father, Buck, who supposedly has a "heirloom" for them. As her drug addicted mother is currently in jail, and their aunt doesn't want to host them unless they provide rent money, few people are looking for Michelle and her siblings, but complications arise when they are joined by their half sister, Leah, and her stepbrother, Tim, both white and affluent and therefore, more likely to be searched for. With varying degrees of success at remaining off the grid, the group deals with car trouble, Michelle's sister's health issues, and lack of spending money as they attempt to reach Buck in California. Michelle is also surprised to find herself falling for Tim, even as she worries about keeping her part time job when she returns, as well as her siblings' problems.Pros: I really liked Michelle as a heroine. She was flawed but likeable, and the author did a great job in depicting how the oldest child in a dysfunctional family can have an over-developed sense of responsibility for her siblings. I also loved that she managed to fix the car with Leah on her own, which she was inspired to do by watching her single mom tinker with it.Cons: I felt like it was a bit of a cop out not to resolve any of the issues that MIchelle was fleeing in the first place. Obviously, you can't put a storybook ending on everything, but I would have at least liked to know if she kept her job.Overall: An engaging road trip/coming-of-age novel that handles issues like racism skillfully.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Two worlds collide. By Michelle L. Beck Michelle Devereau has seen and experienced a lot in her short life. She has a heroin addicted mother (who has been recently jailed); a troubled, younger sister; a baby brother who some would consider a bully;an indifferent aunt; and less than $200 dollars to take care of her siblings. So when a white teen (Tim) shows up and claims that they share a sister (Leah), she is shocked to say the least and isn't sure how she wants to react. But when she learns the reason for the visit....apparently her very absent, white biological father (Buck) wants to see her and her half-sister before he dies. In a moment of clarity or maybe panic, Michelle decides to head to California with her siblings, and see what her father has to say. Of course a bonus would be any inheritance he might leave. As the kids travel cross country, in an jalopy (nicknamed Goldie...the only thing she has from her father)...they must sleep in the car, live off samples or returned food in the mall food court, elude the authorities, and learn to accept each other. Ironically, they eventually learn that they have more in common than they first thought. This was my first Una Lamarche novel and I must admit I really enjoyed it and wouldn't hesitate to read another. Her writing style is clear and easy to follow. And while there were times that the story seemed somewhat unbelievable (five kids traveling cross county with no real resources or adult supervision), it was still entertaining and compelling. As a parent, I believe that this story will resignate with teens and inspire discussions about everything from drug use to bullying. Overall, it was a wonderful read...4 stars.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Unique plot. Well written. Not a joyous book but a good one By Texaswomyn This book is hard to categorize. It's certainly written for teenagers, though it's the rare mature teen that will enjoy the pain of these characters.I expect there will be many, many descriptions, in great detail, of the plot so I will just say this is about two families, one of privilege and one of poverty. One family white and one biracial/black. Two siblings with no worries and bright futures, and three siblings who struggle to have food to eat. These families are linked because three of the siblings have the same biological father. When the father sends word he's dying, the siblings leave Maryland to travel to California in a decrepit car to find answers and closure. That's the plot in a couple of sentences. What the teens find along the way is that despite the myriad surface differences they share a lot of similarities, including a strong sense of responsibility and care for one another. Along the way they learn to solve seemingly overwhelming problems, hone their survival skills, and gain confidence and conviction. The author writes very well; each character is distinct and fully developed with both good and a few not-so-good traits. I will share this book with my teenaged granddaughters and it will make for a good discussion after they've finished it.

The Son of Tarzan, by Edgar Rice Burroughs

About the Author Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) is the creator of Tarzan, one of the most popular fictional characters of all time, and John Carter, hero of the Barsoom science fiction series. Burroughs was a prolific author, writing almost 70 books before his death in 1950, and was one of the first authors to popularize a character across multiple media, as he did with Tarzan s appearance in comic strips, movies, and merchandise. Residing in Hawaii at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941, Burroughs was drawn into the Second World War and became one of the oldest war correspondents at the time. Edgar Rice Burroughs s popularity continues to be memorialized through the community of Tarzana, California, which is named after the ranch he owned in the area, and through the Burrough crater on Mars, which was named in his honour.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. The Son of Tarzan of the Apes becomes Korak the Killer By Lawrance Bernabo In the previous novel "The Beast of Tarzan," Jane and her infant son Jack were kidnapped by Tarzan's enemy Nikolas Rokoff and his henchman Alexis Paulvitch. Of course, Tarzan tracks down his wife and son and finally dispatches Rokoff. However, in this fourth Tarzan novel, "The Son of Tarzan," Edgar Rice Burroughs provides an adventure whose key point is: like father, like son. Paulvitch had survived the vengeance of Tarzan and now wants to even the score by luring young Jack Clayton away from London. However, his plan is foiled when Jack escapes with the help of Akut, the great ape. The pair flee to the same African jungle where Tarzan was raised a generation before. It there that young Jack Clayton establishes his own reputation as Korak the Killer. Not only does he find Korak find his own place in the jungle and amidst the great apes, he also rescues Meriem, a beautiful young woman, from a band of Arab raiders. Meriem turns out to be the daughter of Armand Jacot, a Foreign Legion Captain who is also the Prince de Cadrenet, and therefore a fitting mate for the son of Lord Greystoke. On the one hand, "The Son of Tarzan" is a ERB adventure yarn that closely parallels many of the key elements of the original "Tarzan of the Apes." In that sense this is a fairly predictable story (almost from the moment we hear about "My Dear" we know who she will turn out to be in the end), but given all the speculation about what the Tarzan novels were saying about human society and evolution, it is interesting to note that we have the same relationship between "The Son of Tarzan" and the original "Tarzan of the Apes" that you find between Jack London's "White Fang" and "The Call of the Wild." In each we have the creature of the wild become civilized and then reverse the process in the second. Of course, London's novels have received a lot more consideration along these lines in terms of Darwinism and the whole nature versus nuture debate (effectively canceling the question out by taking it both ways in his two novels), but it is interesting to see Burroughs do essentially the same thing with his own two novels.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Like Father, Like Son By Aarwin This, the third book in the Tarzan series, is one of my favorites. Tricked by one of Tarzan's arch-enemies into running away from home, Tarzan's son Jack finds himself banished to the deep jungle with only Akut, the giant age as a companion. As time goes by, Jack learns to cope with the jungle and transforms into Korak, a jungle lord who converses with apes and rides Tantor the bull elephant. Korak rescues a little Arab girl with a hidden background, and the two young people become fast companions of the wild. The action is constant, the plot convoluted but typical of the Tarzan series with never a dull moment. My only objection is the ending of the book. All is, of course, resolved, but it is so quickly done one cannot help wondering if Burroughs was up against a deadline. Nevertheless, it is quick, good reading!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A sequel that is as good as the original By Michael S. Armstrong The Son of Tarzan deserves a strong 4 star rating. While the story shares a lot in common with much of Burroughs' early Tarzan material, isn't that why you like the Tarzan series? The Son of Tarzan also stands out among the early Tarzan series for its excellent characterization. The book's best feature is the relationship that evolves between Tarzan's son Korak and the kidnapped French girl, Meriem. It is much more satisfactory than the Tarzan and Jane relationship, which really fizzles after the first couple of Tarzan books. The reader sympathizes with Meriem from the onset of the story. Burroughs patiently develops her character throughout the book, creating an appealing feminine presence. The reader also sympathizes with Korak, who proves to be more than just a "Tarzan Jr." While the two share certain similarities, Korak is his own man whose ultimate fate hangs in the balance until the very end of the novel.Alongside these two strong leading characters, Burroughs works in a number of foes that add significant interest to the plot. The character of Baynes is the most interesting among these, and the reader will appreciate how Burroughs expands his role. The plot does not get overly complicated, nor is the reader buried under an avalanche of endless characters. By the end of the book, Burroughs is able to tie up all the loose ends that he has created. There is a certain amount of predictability, and Burroughs is unsuccessful in his attempt to cloak the identities of the "Big Bwana" and "My Dear." This does not greatly detract from the overall book, though. I found that the book's pace gained momentum as the story progressed, and found the conclusion to be very satisfactory. It is not a conclusion that merely baits the reader into buying the next edition, unlike the present "Lord of the Rings" movie saga, for instance. It stands on its own.The 1917 version that includes many outstanding illustrations by J. Allen St. John is the best way to go on this one. St. John's only lapses are his inability to capture Meriem in "civilized" garb, the illustration in which Tarzan looks like a skinny 90-year old man, and the bizarre, strangely proportioned Quasimodo-ish picture of Baynes fighting the black. Aside from these glaring exceptions, his work is top-notch.

Ragged Dick is a homeless fourteen-year-old bootblack, known to be an honest young man. He is generous and industrious, but he is a spendthrift. He is a good-looking boy that appears aristocratic with a frank and open face. Dick must handle con artists, bullies, false accusations of theft, and, most of all, overcoming his inability to read and write. Of particular interest are the descriptions of life on the streets of late 19-century New York City. Horatio Alger, Jr. (January 13, 1832 – July 18, 1899) was a prolific 19th-century American author, best known for his many formulaic juvenile novels about impoverished boys and their rise from humble backgrounds to lives of middle-class security and comfort through hard work, determination, courage, and honesty. His writings were characterized by the "rags-to-riches" narrative, which had a formative effect on America during the Gilded Age.

Review From the very beginning I found myself really connected with what was going on, this being one of my favorite topics. You threw action and adventure, history, a little romance, the weather, and some very cool locations into the literary pot and stirred it briskly, and out came a tasty and succulent stew.  Larry S. Gray Manuscript Review Specialist, Outskirts Press, Inc.

A gritty action thriller that'll leave you on the edge of your seat. If you are new to this genre, fear not, you will still be infected! “A knockout 1st book, very unpredictable. An exciting, new angle on a well-loved genre." - T.Teodorczuk, Evening Standard, London "This is not my normal genre, yet I was utterly engrossed and could not put this book down. I was done in 2 days and now thoroughly look forward to books 2&3. The fight scenes are great, the plot gripping and characters absolutely believable." - Elise L - Amazon.co.uk customer. "A cracking book, a must read for any fans of the zombie/vampire genre. The detail throughout, plus character development made this a compelling tale."- Anon Amazon customer. A gripping novel that sees a group of military survivors in a post-apocalyptic landscape struggle against the crazed infected. Marked for death by vampires, they must decide; is the enemy of my enemy my friend, or should I totally annihilate them both? Do you know all about vampires? Are you ready for Armageddon? Do you believe you know zombies? Think again. You couldn't be further from the truth. A cure for dementia has disastrously failed. Patients are left crazed, infectious and enraged. The ensuing carnage quickly spreads the disease and civilisation is decimated. On London’s outskirts a military base shelters some survivors. The soldiers within must battle against the infected who now roam unchallenged. Tensions are high, relationships fraught, death commonplace. But if they thought the end of the world was bad enough, their troubles have only just begun. An ancient menace has long existed in secret alongside humanity - a vampire clan, which has recently encountered the soldiers. Now is their time to emerge from the shadows. First though they have to overcome their own problems. They too have to fight for survival against the infected, and they violently disagree on their approach towards the humans. Hostilities are rising, survival of the fittest is never guaranteed. It's only a matter of time now. In an unpredictable world only one thing is certain - there will be blood! A trilogy of post-apocalypse page-turners, where zombies and vampires are plausible conditions based on medical fact, not a flight of fancy. This book series brings both types of fabled being into the realms of the distinctly possible. Human survivors must fight against these two deadly foes; while both of those face each other in a brutal confrontation. Q&A WITH THE AUTHOR Q: Military survivors in a post-apocalyptic dystopia – isn’t that a bit clichéd? A: Well, it’s an oft-quoted line that there are only ever variations on 7 different types of story, so in effect every novel you read is a bit of a cliché. My books cover a subject that has possibly been done to death (if you’ll pardon the pun.) But I hope I bring enough originality to it that readers will be gripped. I have redefined vampires and zombies. The vampire is no longer in his normal unassailable position at the top of the food chain. Ultimately the book has believable characters and a thrilling plot that will appeal to anyone who just likes a darn good tale. Q: Where did you get the idea for this new kind of approach? A: I like a book or film to ring true, even if based on fantasy. For example, if you are going to bend the rules of physics, such as in “The Matrix”, then you have to explain it. I have a problem with creatures that have a tangible body but no reflection in a mirror. So I wanted a realistic basis. After all the reader is no fool. Hence Dystopian Gothic Realism. I think the books will be different from any others you’ve read. Q: Were you influenced by Twilight or Anne Rice? A: Not really. My stories are a lot darker, and appeal to any who love Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula, but also fans of Twilight or Vampire Diaries who now want something with a lot more bite. Lastly, zombie fans who ever wonder, 'What would happen if a vampire met a horde of zombies

Once Bitten, Twice Die (The Blood of the Infected Book 1), by Antony Stanton

About the Author "Once Bitten, Twice Die" is the debut novel from Antony J. Stanton. The book is the first of 'The Blood of the Infected' series, in the 'post-apocalyptic action thriller' genre. Stanton was born in London in 1970. Even as a child he always dreamed of becoming a published author, and he started to write a book. But, having watched the film ‘Top Gun,’ he was swayed into a becoming a military pilot. After no more than a glancing blow of a career in the British Royal Air Force he decided that his long term future lay elsewhere and he became a commercial pilot and remains thus to this day. Hence much of this trilogy was written all around the world, generally at unsociable times when jet-lag meant that normal people were asleep. During a holiday with three friends, a bet was made amongst them. Each had a task to fulfil within the year - Stanton’s was to write a book. A little late, but five years on and his challenge has been completed. Three times. His period spent in the RAF helped him write the military survival aspects of this book, and a kidnapping incident in Kazakhstan and shooting in Ghana, amongst other 'adventures', provided him with a dark well of experience to draw from. Life is, after all, one big adventure. A combination of the aforementioned, along with his love of the darker sides of literature, and the results are this novel and the next two in the trilogy. And all it took was the impetus of a friendly challenge to spur him on to his creative dream… He still lives in South London and is very much looking forward to watching his friend fulfilling his part of the challenge: demonstrating his (not-so) newly acquired break-dancing skills, surely a sight to behold.

By Ramona Plant A total new approach to the zombie books combining them with Vampires. This has not been done and I am curious how it will all end. Antony expertly weaves a web around his readers. He found a novel idea on how the zombies start whilst mixing in the existence of vampires. The plot is maybe a tad on the slower side, but not really an issue. He packs a lot of information into this book.In the beginning it was a little difficult finding out who the main characters would be that would stick with you for a while. But once it is more clear you really start to enjoy this book since now you can start to hate or love certain characters and start really getting emotionally involved.Especially towards the end the plot thickens just to leave you with a well placed cliff hanger. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one so I can find out what happens next.I have received this book from the author for an honest review.

Rest assured, though, this is a really original 'ripping good yarn' which delivers so much more than the sum of its parts.Anthony Stanton began writing this some time ago - before the world got over familiar with the genre in fact - and it feels the fresher for that. He negotiates the minefield of clichés with aplomb, bringing the gallery of heroes, anti-heroes and villains vividly to life. I found myself rooting for a favourite character early on and by the fourth or fifth chapter I did not want to put this novel down. While the premise is relatively straightforward the book carries several intertwining themes and paints a rich and detailed environment at the besieged RAF base, Stanton drawing nicely from his time in the military. By the final chapter the scene is set perfectly for the sequels to follow and while you feel sated for the moment you are left wanting more....Do yourself a favour and grab this book now. I hope, like me, you find it a really entertaining read that also whets your appetite for Part Two.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Interesting Blend of the Crazed Infected and Vampires By Kimberly Kelly-sydow I decided to read this book, because of the intriguing link between murderous infected people and Vampires in the storyline. I am happy to say that the characters were well developed and the apocalyptic event, which occurs in Great Britain, was easy to follow with a solid plot. The story did drag in a few places, which is why I am rating it with a 4 instead of 5 stars. All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next in the series. It was a solid storyline with plenty of action and had well developed military and vampire characters.

This is a collection of accounts, and of places to see in the American southwest. Written in a "language" that no longer exists, in a time, unfortunately long gone. The "language" of course is English, but is reminiscent of a 1940's radio guy! The accounts range from witnessing a thunderstorm conjured in a darkened room, to a man getting lost in his backyard, within 100 yards of his home.( in a subterranean cavern ) to visiting Montezuma's castle. Accounts of the pueblo at Taos, the mummy cave and village, Canon Del Muerto, There are many fascinating accounts in this absorbing read. I just got lost into this book. This Title is highly recommended, if you are into history, or the southwest, GET THIS BOOK!

By Dolores Ayotte Children's Author Ally Nathaniel has penned a well-written and thought provoking little book for the young reader. Although, I don't consider "Sarah's Wishful Thinking" to be a chapter book, it is definitely a good introduction to one as it is quite lengthy for a picture book.Sarah is a young school age girl who has a vivid imagination and life-like dreams. In one of these moments she dreams that everything she wishes for comes true by using a magical pencil flower that sprouts from the ground in the lush field she discovers. First she draws herself a red lollipop and it jumps right into her mouth when the picture is complete...and then presto...another pencil is immediately sprouting from the ground.Sarah soon discovers that if she draws an item for someone else, instead of only one pencil shooting up...two or more pencils start to grow. She quickly realizes that when she thinks of others and not only herself, that she is being rewarded with more pencil flowers. She is delighted with this discovery and starts to sketch items for her brother and some of her friends. She also draws a picture of a Golden Retriever named Goldie. When she shares her dream with her parents and brother the next morning over breakfast, Sarah plants the seed that Goldie seemed so real and she would love a dog just like him. Perhaps, this is one wish that will really come true! The colorful illustrations add to the reading pleasure of this delightful children's book.Inspirational Author & Book Reviewer ~ Dolores AyotteGrowing Up & Liking It

It has an interesting view on things. I keep wondering though if her parents let her get the dog? I thought it had some neat pictures to. My son and I really enjoyed reading it together and when we finished reading he asked if we could read it all over again.

What if you found a 'magic' pencil and whatever you drew became real? Awesome author, Ally Nathaniel has written another winner.

One man's personal transition to life in Sardinia written with honesty, insecurity and moments of hilarity. Great insights into the culture and history of a nation within a nation, and belly-laughs at regular intervals. And recipes, lots of recipes that elicit a Pavlovian response throughout. A real joy to read.

The trials and tribulations of this adventurous director as he negotiates his art, and gastronomy, in a new and sometimes perplexing culture are heartwarming. His quirky and mischievous approach to the theatre is particularly appealing. I will definitely be trying some of the recipes - the section on agro-tourism made me feel I was there!
