She is injured badly so he becomes her caregiver. There is an unintended consequence. Staying at home to care for her results in more time at the word processor. They take responsibility for the baby. During her recovery Paul finishes a book. The drug dealers responsible for the attempt on the baby’s life try to find him to finish the job. Their adventures in thwarting these attempts lead to close involvement with the Police Department. The Police Chief requests the use of their roof as a base for operating drones. They are more properly known as unmanned aerial vehicles or UAV’s. While they are getting organized opportunities come up to use the UAV’s. Paul provides apartment space for the UAV operators; Manny and ‘Rica. They work for different UAV producers but co-operate with the Police for a huge drug bust. They co-operate so well they get married and go on an extended UAV publicity tour. They have several opportunities to show the UAV’s versatility. Paul’s agent Gerry LaBreque urged him to try writing a film script for the story of their adventures rescuing the baby and reuniting him with his mother. They ran into a snag which required a ghostwriter. She does e great job but has some personal problems that require help from the Police Department and the mob. When down-to-earth, seventeen year old Amelia Leonard is dragged to get her fortunes told, she expects to have her palms read by some big-haired hippie with a clichéd name like Madame Fortune, not have her aura read and soul touched by a man named Chris, so the lack of theatrics combined with detailed insight to her personal life results in Amelia’s unexpected belief that Chris’s unbelievable predictions may come true—that she will meet the man of her dreams nine days after her death; though she remains unsure how she’ll be able to fall in love once she’s dead, she is convinced that she only has weeks to live. 9 LIVES follows Amelia’s journey as she comes to terms with her inevitable demise, eventual murder, recreation of herself and her tangled love affairs with two different men—the man she’s destined to be with and the man she loves despite all of the odds.

Carly Huss's newest novel "9 LIVES" reminds me of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series. You have a novel written in the first person, as the Sookie books were, concerning a full figured girl with a secret identity that she doesn't even understand, which takes place in a small southern town called Lewisville. Also like the Sookie books, the heroine of the novel, Amelia, must decide between two suitors, both of whom would take her life on a different path. I hope it isn't giving too much away, to suggest the book is about shape shifters, with the "9 LIVES" title suggesting cats. The plot isn't convoluted, nor are there an abundance of characters to track. Since the novel is essentially a romance with fantasy overtones about a 17 year old girl, I believe the Young Adult market would love the book. Amelia's awakening to adulthood, and various responsibilities that this entails, as well as the heavy hand of fate, are the primary themes here. There's no steamy sex scenes described, more like first kiss material. Huss's style also doesn't employ profanity, making this a novel anybody could read without offense. My only critique would concern the ending. A lot happens in the last few pages, with many major characters left dangling. Hopefully this suggests another novel in the series, so we can see what happens to the Fila kingdom, and if Veronica ever succeeds in her diabolical scheming against Queen Nikki, not to mention what happens to the Prince of Foxxes, or Amelia's brother.

Many of the ancient prophets that were able to predict the future foretold that the world would end on May 5, 2000. All of them, if they had lived within the same time period, would agree that the end would be one of cataclysmic proportions. Many predicted that the end would be caused by a natural disaster, some predicted a plague would wipe out the human race, and others predicted that a third world war would be the cause of Earth’s destruction. Fortunately they were all wrong, about the date and year at least. In fact, it was an ancient Race who we called Vampires. They didn't need Human blood for nourishment, they needed it to escape extinction. That, which courses through our veins and gives us life was also the fuel they needed to return to their planet.

In 2014 Jill Maden returns to Australia to finish the trip she started in 2010 (as described in Excess Baggage). She rides a Postie Bike from Brisbane to Adelaide via the epic Birdsville Track. Then, on a Honda CB125e, she rides across the vast Nullarbor Desert to Perth, and onwards to Darwin. With a minuscule budget, badly injured hands and a top speed of just 80 km/h, she slowly makes her way through Australia’s immense landscape. Hampered by gale force winds, dust storms, torturous heat and near-death experiences, Jill begins to wonder if she has bitten off more than she can chew. Written with humour, honesty and eloquence, this is not just the tale of one woman’s foolhardy attempt to ride around Australia on tiny, low-powered motorcycles, but a unique insight into the country’s exquisite natural beauty, its historical development and the warmth and generosity of its people.

Slow Rider: Australia on a Postie Bike and a 125 cc Motorbike, by Jill Maden

About the Author Jill Maden first started riding motorcycles in 2004 after her friend's husband took her down the Great Ocean Road in Australia on the back of his Triumph Sprint. She enjoyed the experience so much she decided to learn how to ride a motorbike. In 2006 she and a friend rode their bikes over to Finland and back. This was the start of a series of motorcycle adventures and in 2010 she rode a giant Suzuki SV650 solo across Australia, from south to north. Her first book, "Excess Baggage" tells the story of this trip. In 2014 she returned to Australia, this time on bikes no bigger than 125 cc and rode from Brisbane to Adelaide via the epic Birdsville Track, before crossing the Nullarbor Desert to Perth and onwards to Darwin (as told in her second book "Slow Rider"). When not travelling or riding motorcycles, Jill runs industrial heritage tours around Glasgow.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Strong Follow Up to Book One By Dean 4.5 StarsThe author has made definite strides since book one. I enjoyed the prior installment, but it was admittedly a good deal headier, thinking-man’s sci-fi reminiscent almost of Stanislaw Lem and the golden age of heady sci-fi, and more recently of Existence by David Brin. While I relish this sub-genre of sci-fi, it definitely restricts the size of the audience. I can see this second offering appealing to a much broader readership. As to overall structure, each chapter drives the story forward and there’s good overall plotting. On a copy-editing level, the author went with shorter paragraphs this time around, which should make for speedier reading, and again helps to enhance the experience. The only cautionary tale I have on a copy-editing level for readers is that the chapters remain quite long. If you’re coming off of reading thrillers and bestsellers, it’s quite the adjustment. On the other hand, for the fantasy genre, these long chapters and big books are somewhat de riguer. One need only thing of the R. R. Martin tomes, but less famous authors also come to mind. So set aside larger chunks of time for reading individual installments and you should be good to go.As to the storyline specifics, the resistance is mounting to the oppressive overlords and reigning family dynasties which maintain a strangle hold on the alien world economy and on their subjects’ minds, by any number of nefarious means. Availing themselves of a blend of high technology and old fashioned Zen master-like mind-control training (reminiscent of how the Jedi knights use the Force in Star Wars), the governing elite easily enslave planetary populaces ill-prepared to defend against them. The ruling families have used their accumulated wealth and power over the ages to continue to refine their subjugation of the masses to ensure they know their place. Needless to say, the political intrigue is rife with modern day analogues. The master’s training of his apprentice in this story was reminiscent of Star Wars, training him both to use the supernatural forces at his command, and giving him philosophical grounding in which contexts to best apply them, right alongside conventional weapons training. The Malleable blade that our hero will come to wield can change its length in response to the wielder’s thought. The Warriors of Balance (analogous to the Jedi knights in this tale) are trained to keep all aspects of consciousness in balance. When tending to the needs of the people, to shine light into darkness, but also to bring shade to areas which are under too much sunlight. If it isn’t immediately clear how to translate that metaphor when you first read it, it slowly becomes clear as you read on.Our hero comes up against enemies who wield hypnotrance, a “force”-like ability, again right out of Star Wars, that allows them to hypnotize any adversary. As a result he’s subjected to mind control training every bit as rigorous as his physical training. Despite all the Star Wars-like parallels (down to the Yoda-like master training his unruly and impatient apprentice), I appreciated the unique qualities of this writer’s franchise. He gives more time over to the romance elements, for one thing. And he takes pains to expose why the corrupt world is the way it is and how those who wield power maintain it. In short he’s able to do things in book form that a film franchise doesn’t have time for in the relatively short-story format of a ninety minute film. The plotting and scheming in this installment is matched by an increase in the amount of action over book one, as the resistance launches its initial sorties against a mysterious underground base governed by the ruling families. Again I can see this playing well to a broader audience. Unlike many middle book installments in a trilogy that tend to lag or feel merely transitional, this one makes the prior one feel like prologue. In line with the series’ ongoing evolution, I went with 4.5 stars on this review versus the 4 star review of the prior installment. If the author continues upping his game at this rate, not just the next installment in the series, but further books by this author will continue to warrant attention. Let me be quick to say though, so as not to be misleading, that this is a sci-fi and dark fantasy mashup. Purists need not enter. But for those who enjoy both genres, and don’t mind seeing them blended, this book gets a solid recommendation from this reviewer.

People are dead but others have taken their places as is tradition in the great houses where siblings murder each other in cold blood for the chance to be the leader of their house.Revenge is the name of the game and the people will get their justice. Our favorite hero, Earlyann, is no longer the inquisitive child. He has been training and is now ready for the real world and his first mission.Things change at warp speed in Akaladia and a lot of what you think turns out to be wrong. We are heading towards and epic showdown but what will the sides be? Who will win? This is a series that keeps you guessing at every turn. The writing is crisp and beautifully descriptive. I can picture each part of Akaladia in my mind and it’s a bleak image. I can love and hate a character at the same time. That’s what is so powerful about these books.Occasionally, the long paragraphs would make reading difficult but that is the only problem I had with this book. I can’t wait until the third book and the final confrontation for the soul of Akaladia.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This series just keeps getting better. The villains in the second book are both ... By Caitlin Farley This series just keeps getting better. The villains in the second book are both more twisted and more human, and the plot regularly slaps you through the face with something you weren't expecting. This book may be written in a manner that's both simple and subtly artistic, but the story itself is cunning.

Read Ebook Through an Unknown Country: The Jarvis-Hanington Winter Expedition through the Northern Rockies, 1874-1875, by Mike Murtha, Charles Helm

In the winter of 1874–75, Edward Worrell Jarvis (1846 –1894) and Charles Francis Hanington (1848–1930) took part in an expedition on behalf of the Canadian Pacific Survey from Quesnel, British Columbia, to Winnipeg, Manitoba. It led them over the northern Rocky Mountains through what would come to be known as Jarvis Pass (Kakwa Provincial Park, British Columbia) and eventually onto the Canadian plains. The trip took them 116 days and covered over 3,000 kilometres, of which almost 1,500 was travelled on snowshoes.

Through an Unknown Country brings together the day-to-day reports of Jarvis and the more entertaining narrative of the epic journey by Hanington into a single volume for the first time. Recounting harrowing treks through deep mountains, densely forested valleys, open foothills and wide prairie, this highly readable adventure story can be read alongside the better-known journals of Alexander Mackenzie, Simon Fraser, David Thompson and Paul Kane.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. great story of hardy CPR surveyors By Sam McBride This is an excellent book of Western Canada history that I highly recommend. The hardiness and determination of Jarvis and Hanington in surveying through the Northern Rockies in the middle of winter is amazing. The story is colourfully told by the authors as well as through the original diaries of the two men. Great to see this overlooked story from Canada's pioneer years brought forward in comprehensive form for the first time.

The Prisoner of Zenda is an adventure novel by Anthony Hope, published in 1894. The king of the fictional country of Ruritania is abducted on the eve of his coronation, and the protagonist, an English gentleman on holiday who fortuitously resembles the monarch, is persuaded to act as his political decoy in an attempt to save the situation. The villainous Rupert of Hentzau gave his name to the sequel published in 1898, which is included in some editions of this novel. The books were extremely popular and inspired a new genre of Ruritanian romance, including the Graustark novels by George Barr McCutcheon.

About the Author Anthony Hope was the pen name of Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins. Born in London on 9th February 1863, Hope studied at the prestigious Marlborough School before attending Balliol College, Oxford University. He received a first-class degree and, in 1887, went to work as a lawyer. An ambitious man, Hope began writing stories in his free time and published his first novel, A Man of Mark, in 1890. Most of his novels were adventure stories, typified by The Prisoner of Zenda, his best-known work. Based on The Prisoner of Zenda's success, Hope gave up his legal career and began writing full time, publishing many popular novels, plays and short stories. Rupert of Hentzau, the sequel to The Prisoner of Zenda, was published in 1898, and continued where The Prisoner of Zenda left off. Among the many books Hope published are Tristram of Blent (1901), Double Harness (1904), Sophy of Kravonia (1906), The Heart of Princess Osra (1896) and Lucinda (1920). Hope married Elizabeth Somerville in 1903, and was knighted in 1918 for services to his country during World War I. Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins died at his home in Surrey on 8th July 1933.

By John DiBello [This is a review of the Penguin edition dual-volume of `Prisoner' and `Rupert']I've long been a fan of Errol Flynn swashbucklers and the classic works of prolific (and unjustly forgotten) Rafael Sabatini, but if you want the greatest swashbuckler novel of them all, Anthony Hope's "The Prisoner of Zenda" is a classic you'll come back to again and again: over a hundred years after being written, it's still as sharp as a rapier point."The Prisoner of Zenda" is something of a rarity: a Victorian adventure novel that is as fresh and entertaining to read in this modern jaded age as it was in 1894. If you've ever seen one of the many movie adaptations you already know the story: Rudolf Rassendyll, an Englishman vacationing in the tiny European country of Ruritania, meets and befriends the soon-to-be-crowned King Rudolf--his exact and identical double. When the King is kidnapped by the dastardly Black Michael, Rassendyll must impersonate the King in the coronation ceremony...and in the heart of the Queen. Hope's handling of the romance between Rassendyll and Queen Flavia is both a daring and romantic love story and a subtle examination of the meaning of honor and duty to a gentleman. Of course there's plenty of swordplay and derring-do along the way (put on an Erich Korngold CD while reading for the best effect). If Tom Clancy was writing this one, there'd be nuclear weapons instead of swords and email instead of telegrams, but even he couldn't pull off the simple but subtle romantic story and the triumphant but poignant ending.I recommend this Penguin edition especially because unlike any other editions of "The Prisoner of Zenda" currently available, it also contains Hope's lesser but still worthy sequel "Rupert of Hentzau," which brings Rassendyll back to Ruritania years later to match wits and swords with Michael's henchman, bringing an end to the saga so satisfyingly that there's no need for a third adventure. I loved both but would definitely rank "Rupert" a level below "Prisoner": "Rupert" is narrated by Fritz, the faithful royal retainer from "Prisoner," and suffers from much of the action taking place outside Fritz's personal view and being retold later on. Still, it's a stunning and emotional end to the story, and one which'll bring a proper tear to your eye. Like Rudolf of Ruritania, Anthony Hope is a king...of adventure novels. Unlike Rudolf, he has no equal.

Lindsey I have been an voracious reader since I was in the second grade; a bout of mononucleosis and the discovery of the Hardy boys in the third grade sealed the deal for me, and I have been reading furiously ever since. This book, perhaps more than any other I had read in those formative years, thrilled me to my bones and forged me into a lifelong committed adventure reader. They say you never forget your first love, and I have never forgotten the Prisoner of Zenda. It has EVERYTHING a young boy could desire in an adventure book: travel to a distant country, nefarious villains, royalty, beautiful damsels, dashing military officers accoutered with flashing sabers and charging steeds, castles, kidnappings, escapes, swashbuckling....my knees buckle a little bit just thinking about it again. This book literally imprinted me for everything I have read in the genre since then and stirred in me a desire for travel and adventure that has led me all around the globe several times in my life. I do not think it is a stretch to say that this book may very well have changed the course of my life, nudging me into certain dreams and hopes that I have happily chased ever since. I've ordered it today, desiring to read it again and compare it to my 8 year old memories of it, but, more importantly, I also wish to present it to my son and hope it opens the world to him the same way it did for me.

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Sophia Dee, niece of the mystic John Dee and one of Queen Elizabeth I's Maids of Honor (or secret spies), is struggling to control her psychic powers before a horrifying prophecy destroys the queen, the kingdom, and her friends. The well-balanced mixture of intrigue, romance, action, and historical setting makes this gripping series entry just as unputdownable as the last.

Review "McGowan has created another...authentic, fast-paced page-turner that will appeal to both teen and adult readers. For readers who like their historical romance with a touch of second sight." (Kirkus Reviews)"The well-balanced mixture of intrigue, romance, action, and historical setting makes this gripping series entry just as unputdownable as the last." (School Library Journal)"Sophia’s engaging narrative adds a measure of sixteenth-century mysticism to the enticing blend of mystery, suspense, and romance that readers enjoy in the Maids of Honor series." 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I was fascinated by the author's interpretation of what it might have been like for psychics By Christine Kohler I have been loving this Elizabethan Romance series for its characters, humor, and history. Each book adds another dimension to the historical period in European power struggles among countries and Church. Each book also adds to the understanding of the individual Maid characters. (Maid of Honors are spies who serve Queen Elizabeth.)Sophia's story in MAID OF WONDER was different than the previous Maid of Honor stories. It lacked the humor and took a dark ominous tone. But in many ways the author, Jennifer McGowan, showed brilliance in this paranormal, which could be classified as magic realism, as she displayed a deeper range of her abilities as an author. I was fascinated by the author's interpretation of what it might have been like for psychics, even the notorious French Nostradamus, to conjure up, or enter, the spirit world for their visions and predictions. If there was any doubt, MAID OF WONDER proved that this series, though the books are fast easy reads, shouldn't be chalked off as just Romance novels. The history is deeply researched and the books well-written. I look forward to the next in the series. (I'm especially curious about Jane's story, as it undoubtedly will be a tragic tale.)I bought all of the series.

So their was no doubt that I would read this book when it became available. I admit that Sophia is not my favorite maiden, but I was intrigued to learn her story.Sophia's gift is interesting to me. I wonder how it would be viewed in today's world that she conversed with angels? It was definitely hearsay in that time. I wonder if that fear was partially why she seemed to have so little control and understanding of it. Until it came down to an ultimatum, it didn't even seem like she was trying to make complete use of it.I did find her voice annoying at times. You can tell she is a little bit more sheltered and naive compared to the rest of the maids. She doesn't seem to have any responsibility like the others. While her gift is no easy, she needed to be pushed to do it. I think Elizabeth did it in her typical fashion. She wanted to make a spectacle of it for her own amusement. I loved the inclusion on Nostradamus, although I admit that I don't know much about him besides his name. I was on the fence when it came to Marcus Quinn. I felt it was kind of creepy how he could see Sophia in her dreams and seemed to be there every time she turned around. But, he also seemed very invested in her well being.Overall, an adequate addition to the series. You can't really have it without a story about Sophia, so I'm happy to have it. I sincerely hope this series continues.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Its ok By Amazon Customer I just finished this book. I love the series, stumbled upon it from an Amazon daily deal. This is the weakest book in the series; to much ethereal, angel material that didn't really move the story. The mystery is a bit weak as well. I wanted more about the times, but this book could have been in any time period for how much she referenced the time period (yes we have some bits but much of the book is Sophia in the "angel realm."). The other world that Sophia ventures into is beyond frustrating and the author goes on and on about this world, not sure how it advanced the story, instead I would have preferred an editor to cut this down.I did like the romance, though it was quick. I was hoping to see more of the previous two stories and the romances there, but not much. Also, would have liked to see more of the Maids of Honor working together and perhaps just some day to day life for them, does it always have to be life or death?? Does there always have to be torture?I would say read this book if you are invested in the series but as a stand-alone, not worth it.

STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE is the original title of a novella written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson that was first published in 1886. It is about a London lawyer named Gabriel John Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde. The work is commonly associated with the rare mental condition often called "split personality", referred to in psychiatry as dissociative identity disorder, where within the same body there exists more than one distinct personality.[4] In this case, there are two personalities within Dr. Jekyll, one apparently good and the other evil. The novella's impact is such that it has become a part of the language, with the very phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" coming to mean a person who is vastly different in moral character from one situation to the next.

I can just recommend everybody independent of the movies, to read this original in text. The edition is good too, very elegantly produiced, although the novel is quite short.

I am sure that at the time it was written it made for great reading. The plot, which is filled with suspense, twists, and mysteries, was already known to me through the movies. However, I took an interest in the book in order to get a better insight, and as you know "the book is always better than the movie."

By Tai chu Rui Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde doesn't match Stevenson's Treasure Island, but is a classic worthy of the title. It's also short and readily available at libraries or online, so you won't be wagering much in reading it for yourself

The videos help to capture the excitement of the food. The descriptions are wonderful and I really enjoyed the writing. Thanks Ron for a wonderful travel guide. Look forward to more of your food trips to other places. Your book has given me ideas of doing the same here in Vermont, as we have some wonderful restaurants here that I am sure people will enjoy. Keep up the good work. Now all I have to do is same my dollars and trade them for pesos.

A tramp abroad, by Mark Twain

About the Author Mark Twain, born Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was an American humorist and writer, who is best known for his enduring novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which has been called the Great American Novel. Raised in Hannibal, Missouri, Twain held a variety of jobs including typesetter, riverboat pilot, and miner before achieving nationwide attention for his work as a journalist with The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. He earned critical and popular praise for his wit and enjoyed a successful career as a public speaker in addition to his writing. Twain s works were remarkable for his ability to capture colloquial speech, although his adherence to the vernacular of the time has resulted in the suppression of his works by schools in modern times. Twain s birth in 1835 coincided with a visit by Halley s Comet, and Twain predicted, accurately, that he would go out with it as well, dying the day following the comet s return in 1910.

An underrated book that at times is absolutely hilarious By Paul H "A Tramp Abroad" is a humorous account of Mark Twain's travels in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. It is part travel guide, part commentary on European culture, and part tall tale. Like many of Twain's less-known works, "A Tramp Abroad" is rather uneven -- the chapters in the book range from rather boring to laugh-out-loud funny. Yet on balance, the humorous moments make up for the dull moments, and the majority of the less humorous chapters are still interesting. Apart from a few slow chapters, it provides a good read from beginning to end. Some of the highlights of "A Tramp Abroad" are Twain's exaggerated account of his ascent of the Riffelberg (a mountain in the Swiss Alps), his comments on the peculiarities of the German language, and a hilarious episode in which Twain spends half an hour pretending to know a woman who remembers him though he doesn't remember her.I have read most of Twain's works, and in my opinion "A Tramp Abroad" is not his best work, but it is definitely one of his most underrated books. It is not as good as his most popular works of fiction (i.e., Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn), nor is it as good as "Life on the Mississippi." But I found it to be the most entertaining of his purely travel-oriented books (the other books in that category being "The Innocents Abroad" and "Following the Equator"). The bottom line is that if you are a fan of Mark Twain's style, then you should find this book to be well worth reading. Finally, if you are going to read "A Tramp Abroad," I highly recommend obtaining a version that contains all 328 of the original illustrations. While I normally would make this recommendation for any of Twain's works, it is especially important for this book since the text makes several references to the illustrations, and since some of the jokes in the text would not make sense without the illustrations. The only current edition I know of that definitely contains *all* of the original illustrations is the Oxford Mark Twain edition (ISBN 0195101375). Also, the Modern Library Classics edition (ISBN 0812970039) apparently has retained some of the original illustrations, since it contains a note stating that "... some illustrations have been omitted" (thus implying that some have not been omitted). I would assume that this edition has retained those illustrations which are essential to the humor, but I can't say for sure since I don't actually have it.

Journeysknown as Grand Tours led tourists to take ship to the Continent. They fanned out across thelandscape with the intent to "know Europe." Their return home resulted in a flurry ofpublished accounts. Twain satirizes both the tourists and their writings with deliciouswit. Ever a man to play with words, his "tramp" refers to both himself and the walking tourof Europe he purports to have made. By the time you've reached the end of the account of the"walking tour" incorporating trains, carriages and barges, you realize that the longest "walk"Twain took occurred in dark hotel room while trying to find his bed. He claims to havecovered 47 miles wandering around the room.Twain was interested in everything, probing into both well-known and obscure topics. Hisjudgments are vividly conveyed in this book, standing in marked contrast to his morereserved approach in Innocents Abroad. A delightful overview of mid-19th Century Europe,Tramp is also interlaced with entertaining asides. Twain was deeply interested in people, andvarious "types" are drawn from his piercing gaze, rendered with acerbic wit. Some of theseare contemporary, while others are dredged from his memories of the California mines andother journeys. He also relished Nature's marvels, recounting his observations. A favouriteessay is "What Stumped the Blue-jays." A nearly universal bird in North America, Twain'sdescription of the jay's curiosity and expressive ability stands unmatched. He observes suchhumble creatures as ants, Alpine chamois, and the American tourist. Few escape hisperception or his scathing wit. This book remains valuable for its timeless rendering ofcharacters and the universality of its view. It can be read repeatedly for education orentertainment.

Barometer Soup By JOHN ANDREW ABEL I have not read Twain since High School twenty five plus years ago but a friend on a newspapers book forums got me to read him again and A Tramp Abroad is the first book I picked. For the current generation this book may drag but for those of us who grew up reading books instead of playing computer games this is Twain at his best. One has to actually read into his writing to appreciate a lot of the irony but when this book is really on like the mountain climbing near the Matterhorn ,Twain makes Seinfeld seem like he's talking about something. A brilliant travel essay and by the way the Penguin Classics edition of this book in paperback is 411 pages long, not 670 pages .

Very good By Juan Spannender, sprachgewandter Fantasy-Roman mit allem, was dazugehört!
