A Surprise for Tiny Mouse, by Petr Horacek

From School Library Journal Baby/Toddler—Through richly textured, collage mixed-media illustrations and short, simple sentences, pre-readers meet Tiny Mouse, who loves nibbling wheat in the sunshine. Children learn about the other things Tiny Mouse enjoys, such as watching the crackly leaves blow. Carefully placed die cuts that offer a glimpse into the next spread make for an effective transition between pages. A surprise awaits Tiny Mouse (and readers) when she emerges from her hiding place after some splashy rain: a rainbow on a wheel, which children can turn, making the rainbow appear and disappear. A winning addition to all board book collections.

My granddaughter loves these board books with their vibrant colors and large illustrations. This one featuring a little mouse experiencing various types of weather and it ends with a wheel that, when turned, shows a rainbow in the sky. Here's a great way to stimulate coordination in a young child.

We live in a world laced with constant threats and the horrid realities of shocking headlines. Terrorism has changed the fabric of every culture on our globe. Missing nuclear warheads left over from the cold war could still be hidden up, waiting for detonation. North Korea has nuclear missiles. When and how might they be used? Many believe that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. When might they go online, and what nation(s) could be their target(s)? Origins, the first book in The Towers Series, reveals a string of historical events which elicits reasonable fears in the cultures of our time. Fictitious characters are woven into the past in acts of bravery and despicable malice. A descendant of the leader of the largest contiguous world empire has cast his own destiny. His Al-Qadar is revealed in revenge, aggression, and visions of his world-wide empire. His international network of secret supporters, bent on creating chaos, evolves from history to create the largest disruption ever known to man. Origins is a story that includes a complex set of characters with intricate agendas. The disparate cast moves in unrelated spheres of existence without anticipating the confluence of their lives. Forces of nature, acts of terrorism, espionage, the passion of personal pursuits, and the bonds of love funnel them into a single event that transcends all known possibilities. Appealing to men and women of all ages, each will find Origins, the first book in The Towers Series, a stimulating and interesting adventure. Despair and Providence are the second and third books of The Towers Series. As the purpose and actions of the personalities develop they create and epoch filled with intriguing struggles and wrenching tensions. Jihad, the Crusades, religious jealousies, women's issues, cutting edge science, and apocalyptic drama enjoin elements of fascination that will keep you turning the pages in this fictional thrill-ride which ends in a cataclysm that opens a path into a future beyond your wildest dreams.

ORIGINS: THE TOWER SERIES: BOOK ONE, by Lee R. Hadley

About the Author Lee R. Hadley is a leader in thought and action and no blind follower who draws from his diversity in mixing truth, fiction, and genre types into unusually fascinating tales. He describes growing up on his father’s Idaho farms as an animating paradise. Exploring the endless banks of the Payette River, riding horses along the Snake River, and driving fast cars on open roads were some of the formative backdrops for his young imagination. In his youthful wonderment, he never imagined the wide range of his future interests and delights. Creativity is Lee’s natural instinct, yet he was drawn into a career of sales and marketing. Outside of work, Lee relishes DIY projects. He redesigned and built his home, and rebuilt car engines for both driving and racing. Along with landscaping and gardening at his home, Lee processed film and printed photographs in his personal darkroom. He became a videographer, creating superb amateur videos. Lee is a modern Renaissance man winning awards in Retold Story, music composition, engineering, and music video production. Traveling to 46 states, China, Europe, and the countries of North America, he has seen much of the world. His diverse interests often caused him to joke about what he might do when he finally grew up. At the center of Lee’s happiness is his marriage of 43 years. He and his loving wife, Sandra, have five upstanding children and seven delightful grandchildren. His life is filled with the joy of family, teaching religion classes on Sundays, the roar of Hemi engines, and the interplay of light, matter, music, and emotion in photography and videography. Lee is known for his heart, compassion, and in seeing the good in others. Nearly 50 years after leaving the family farm, Lee began writing a novel. Today, it is a trilogy known as The Towers Series. Book One, Origins, imagines an apocalyptic scenario, all too timely for our day. Book Two, Despair, and Book Three, Providence, carry the story forward. A fourth book, Cajun Justice, is a related side-story scheduled for release in June of 2016. Despair and Providence are in final edit, awaiting release later in 2016. Towers of Peace, the following trilogy, is in composition. Lee attacks his writing with vision and passion and has clearly answered the question of vocation.

You will be caught from the first sentence and then whirled away into a fog of quick seemingly random, but very connected, events. Then there is the deep quiet but swelling core of the idea central to the book. Those who like thrillers will be rewarded, those who like to be taken to new places in physics and theology will be amazed and left waiting for the next two. A feast for excitement and deep thinking.

By CK Excellent fiction with several very current themes. One being: what is terrorism, where does it come from, where is the world going, what will the future look like? The author looks at the world through many lenses: physics, theology, human strengths, human weaknesses, human desires. What is seen through those lenses is an amazing look at what might have been and what could have been and what the future might be. It is fiction, but it gives pause for reflection on how our lives might be intertwined with and impacted by many of the current events going on around us today. Again, it is fiction, but could it be real? I am very much looking forward to the next volume. I highly recommend this book.

Great read, intense, and left me wanting more By Mary Lou Hadley As I began reading this book, I was a little confused by all the names, but the further I got into it, the more I enjoyed it and followed the story line. It is a complex book and by the end I was saying, "Wait, It can't end yet, I want more" I am anxious for the next volume to appear on the shelves so I can get it and read more about the characters.

The story begins with strange lights and sounds, including blaring trumpet music, reported in the skies all over the world. The events are capped by the mysterious appearance of black flags with gold suns atop tall historic landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. These events are all the work of the mysterious Robur (Latin for "oak" and figuratively taken to mean "strength"), a brilliant inventor who intrudes on a meeting of a flight-enthusiast's club called the Weldon Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Robur the Conqueror, by Jules Verne

About the Author Jules Verne was a French writer and pioneer of the science fiction genre through novels like Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, A Journey to the Center of the Earth, and The Mysterious Island. A visionary, Verne wrote about air, space, and underwater travel long before the ability to travel in these realms was invented, and his works remain amongst the most translated, most continually reprinted, and most widely read books of all time. Jules Verne died in 1905 having paved the way for future science fiction writers and enthusiasts.

Reads like a Travelogue By CKE I am a huge fan of Jules Verne; The Mysterious Island (Modern Library Classics) is my all-time favorite book.... period. Over the years I have read about a dozen books by Verne, and unfortunately, "Robur the Conqueror" is among my least favorite (The only one I can think that ranks below Robur is Measuring a Meridian: The Adventures of Three Englishmen and Three Russians in South Africa) The problem is that Robur reads as travelogue - one describes the locations the locations that the airship is flying over, but little else. In terms of characters- Jules Verne has never been known for his character development (with a few very notable exceptions), but in Robur the lack of character development is almost comical. The reader is left with no understanding of why Robur created his airship or what his intent was with the kidnapping of the three men. A few of the other reviewer mentions Verne's treatment of Fycollin - which would probably been considered racist even in the 1880's .The good - as usual Verne describes a technology that was still in the dreams of man. The flying airship is a sort of a helicopter with a multitude of rotors. While it is very doubtful that the ship would fly as it is described - but it is an interesting explanation.Final verdict - There are plenty of other Verne books out there to read - Make sure you read Around the World in 80 Days and/or Five Weeks in a Balloon: Or, Journeys and Discoveries in Africa by Three Englishmen (Classic Reprint) before considering Robur.2 Stars

Inferior to 20,000 Leagues By The Reviewer Formerly Known as Kurt Johnson When bright lights and strange aerial phenomenon begin to be seen around the world, everyone is perplexed as to what such a thing could be. But, when the president and secretary of the Weldon Institute (a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA balloon enthusiast society) are kidnapped by a seemingly mad engineer, Robur, they quickly find that he and his fantastic airship are responsible for the strange phenomenon. Robur has mastered heavier-than-air travel, with his giant electric-powered helicopter, and he is out to rebuild the world in his image. Can his poor prisoners escape from the clutches of Robur, and how will they stop his plans? This book was first published in 1886 by that early master of science fiction, Jules Verne (1828-1904). In many ways it is reminiscent of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but set in the air. For it’s time, it was quite forward thinking in its science, and it has a very interesting story. However, it does drag at times, and overall the author does not succeed in generating any real drama therein. Also, there is another reason why this book will never be considered one of Monsieur Verne’s great works, and this is the character Frycollin, the only African-American character in the story. He is presented as an unvarnished Stepin Fetchit-type character, complete with calling his employer “Master”, even though he had never known slavery. Indeed, at one point, Mr. Verne mentions Frycolling crying, “Like a child, like the Negro he was...” Yes, I do know that you cannot demand modern thinking out of people of the past, but Verne does go far too far with this character, Frycollin is definitely the poison pill of this story. So, let me just say that I found this to be an OK book, decidedly inferior to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and with the poison pill of racism included. Overall, I do not recommend this book.

Robur the Dull Conqueror By Bartok Kinski (**Plot and ending revealed**)Okay, I loved Jules Verne as a kid, but reading this now, it's pretty mindless and finishes up rather frivolous. Two numb-nut, fat, captains of industry are kidnapped. Nothing happens, Robur hardly gets any description, and then they escape by stealing TNT (which is not locked, they also roam around freely) and they jump on an island to get saved later. Okay.So pick it up if you are the ages 7 - 18.Also recommended:Hartmann, The Anarchist: Or The Doom Of The Great City (1893) by E. Douglas FawcettThe People That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs

A Frozen Favorite Brought to Life By Amazon Customer It's hard to read the title Reindeers are Better Than People without singing along to the melody from the Disney movie Frozen! In fact, I don't think I've succeeded yet! This adorable little board book with a hard cover and soft antlers coming out of the top is perfect for my two year old! He of course loves Disney movies too but isn't typically allowed to play with all his sisters Frozen toys! I love how the antlers bring the book to life and give toddlers something to touch and imagine. All of our favorite Frozen characters are in the book and it is designed so that it looks like each of them have antlers when you turn from page to page.I like that it is a rhyming book which makes it more lyrical and therefore memorable for the littles. My two year old started repeating the end phrases back to me after reading it through several times. And yes, this is one of those books that will be on constant repeat for requests from your child!Reindeers are Better Than People focuses on a beloved character from Frozen and brings him to life for toddlers to enjoy!Disclaimer: I received this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

  • The Awakening, originally titled A Solitary Souls', is a novel by Kate Chopin, first published in 1899. Set in New Orleans and on the Louisiana Gulf coast at the end of the 19th century, the plot centers on Edna Pontellier and her struggle to reconcile her increasingly unorthodox views on femininity and motherhood with the prevailing social attitudes of the turn-of-the-century American South. It is one of the earliest American novels that focuses on women's issues without condescension. It is also widely seen as a landmark work of early feminism, generating a mixed reaction from contemporary readers and critics. The novel's blend of realistic narrative, incisive social commentary, and psychological complexity makes The Awakening a precursor of American modernist literature; it prefigures the works of American novelists such as William Faulkner and Ernest Hemingway and echoes the works of contemporaries such as Edith Wharton and Henry James. It can also be considered among the first Southern works in a tradition that would culminate with the modern masterpieces of Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Eudora Welty, Katherine Anne Porter, and Tennessee Williams.

Review "Shelly Frasier's reading is thick with languor and sensuality as she creates an Edna who feels all but physically present."---AudioFile

From the Publisher First published in 1899, this beautiful, brief novel so disturbed critics and the public that it was banished for decades afterward. Now widely read and admired, The Awakening has been hailed as an early vision of woman's emancipation. This sensuous book tells of a woman's abandonment of her family, her seduction, and her awakening to desires and passions that threated to consumer her. Originally entitled "A Solitary Soul," this portrait of twenty-eight-year-old Edna Pontellier is a landmark in American fiction, rooted firmly in the romantic tradition of Herman Melville and Emily Dickinson. Here, a woman in search of self-discovery turns away from convention and society, and toward the primal, from convention and society, and toward the primal, irresistibly attracted to nature and the sensesThe Awakening, Kate Chopin's last novel, has been praised by Edmund Wilson as "beautifully written." And Willa Cather described its style as "exquisite," "sensitive," and "iridescent." This edition of The Awakening also includes a selection of short stories by Kate Chopin.

"This seems to me a higher order of feminism than repeating the story of woman as victim... Kate Chopin gives her female protagonist the central role, normally reserved for Man, in a meditation on identity and culture, consciousness and art." -- From the introduction by Marilynne Robinson.

Immense talent in a little package By Dianna Setterfield Thank you to all my reading friends who suggested The Awakening as one of their favorite classic novels! I have been trying to branch out into new literary worlds, and the classics is one genre that I hadn't yet touched. Still a novice, but my journey has been so profitable thus far. The Awakening was one novel that is incredibly easy to read and holds such powerful prose in so few pages.A taboo subject back in its day, The Awakening tells the story of one woman's emotional journey from a stifled, miserable marriage to a spirited and lusty freedom. Young Edna Pontellier feels trapped in a loveless, although pampered, life with husband, Leonce. Stirrings of independence begin one summer while resorting in Grand Isle, an island off the coast of Louisiana. These new feelings have begun a profound change in Edna, liberating her beyond belief. Thus ensues an infidelity that dreams are made of, although at the expense of her marriage and motherhood.Hardly shocking in this day and age, The Awakening's subject of marital infidelity and physical lust for another is always a pageturner. The theme of the novel -- Edna's torment at the chains that bind her and the flutterings of an unbridled passion -- is brought to life with beautiful writing in simple, elegant words. I am surprised to find such a passionate and provocative story within its pages. Short but penetrating, The Awakening will move you.

43 of 45 people found the following review helpful. quietly submersed By Jonathan J. Casey Kate Chopin's "The Awakening" is the classic novel about women that "Madame Bovary" purports to be but isn't. It's not just a "woman's" novel, though, it perfectly (and poetically) captures the inner life of a solitary person who is forced to live for the sake of others. And while this has been a distinctly female position for a large part of Western history, it is a position that can be identified with by just about anyone in our current age of employee internet-use monitoring. This is a twentieth-century tale of discomfort with and reaction to antagonistic surroundings. For those of us who don't feel the need to procreate in an overpopulated world, Edna's (and presumably Chopin's) discomfort with children will make sense. For those of us who may not always know exactly what we want out of life, this story will strike a chord.Kate Chopin's writing is deliberate but not labored. She is particularly successful at depicting ambiguity in a way which is highly descriptive and communicative. This is a skill which I can't praise highly enough, and it culminates in an ending which is absolutely perfect. While criticism could be raised against "The Awakening" as another apology for the suicidal artist, Edna's literal and symbolic escape is less pretentious than Harry's in "Steppenwolfe," nor as indecipherable as that of any of Joyce's creations. Kate Chopin's novel is truly a classic in the sense that it should be a part of any survey of American literature. The Norton Critical edition is the best way to go, too, with helpful biographical information and literary criticism. If you want a more enriching experience with this novel, I'd highly recommend this version.

Surprisingly not heavy-handed By Kindle Customer Note: I do not believe that The Awakening is the sort of novel that relies on plot twists and surprises. It's *how* the story unfolds rather than *what happens* that is important. However, several folks have claimed that they needed a spoiler warning, so here it is: You have been warned.Kate Chopin wrote this story of female self-actualization back in the late 19th century, but it's as applicable today as it was then. I think we all feel trapped by decisions we've made capriciously or because we've been told they are correct, and we all consider, even briefly, escape. The main character in this novel not only realizes that she has trapped herself, but she actively seeks to free herself. Her action, rather than just emotion and despair (a la Goethe), is what separates her from the herd. Here's the low-down: Edna is a woman, probably in her 30s or so, married to a successful financier and mother to two charming children. She summers on an island, probably to escape summer diseases in the city, New Orleans. One summer she acquires a friend, Robert. Although married women in this society frequently have male friends, Edna is an outsider, and she takes Robert's attentions far too seriously. Apparently, he is similarly infatuated. Basking in Robert's attention, Edna understands at last that she has discarded her youthful dreams and hopes and that her current life is unfulfilling. She takes small steps toward freeing herself, and Robert seems a willing accomplice for a while.During the course of the novel, Edna relearns who she is, reclaims the dreams of her youth, and abandons her husband and children. The author is careful with this last, making it seem tragic and irresponsible, yet ultimately unavoidable. By the last 20 pages, Edna is free. There are, in my opinion, two weakness in the book. The first may be considered a spoiler: toward the end, Edna tells Robert that she is an independent woman now who is not the property of any other person. But she's lying. Her actions show that she is dependent on Robert, needy for his love and attention. I still can't decide if the author created this break between words and behavior on purpose, or if she really intended us to believe that Edna was wholly independent. The other weakness, riding on the coattails of the first, is that Edna does not take responsibility for her own awakening. She claims that Robert "awoke" her.Edna does in the end devise a solution that proves her ultimate freedom and independence, and it is the only solution that works. But I won't spoil it by writing it here. The thing that makes this book so lovely is that it isn't preachy. So many modern girl-power novels just sort of slam you over the head with the girls-first-and-men-suck mantra. This book is about Edna; it doesn't purport to be about all women. It's a very personal work, and the narrative hand is light. It leaves us, the readers, free to recognize the little bits of Edna in us all, and although the rest of us may not ultimately choose Edna's course, it gives us hope that such freedom is possible, even after the fact.

The Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition was perhaps the most ambitious, elaborate and confident of all the British attempts to master the South Pole. Like the others it ended in disaster, with the Endeavour first trapped and then crushed to pieces in the ice and its crew trapped in the Antarctic, seemingly doomed to a slow and horrible death. In the face of extraordinary odds, Shackleton, the expedition's leader, decided on the only course that might just save them: a 700 nautical mile voyage in a small boat across the ferocious Southern Ocean in the forelorn hope of reaching the only human habitation within range: a small whaling station on the rugged, ice-sheeted island of South Georgia.

South tells the story both of the whole astonishing expedition and of Shackleton's journey to rescue his men - one of the greatest feats of navigation ever recorded.

Shackleton's own story of his famous expedition By Susan Paxton Although there have been a number of new books and reprints recently focusing on the Endurance expedition, this is the one book everyone should read, Sir Ernest Shackleton's own story of the tragedy he turned into a triumph. Shackleton fully covers the expedition from its inception, through the loss of the Endurance, the stranding of the men on desolate Elephant Island, the majestic small-boat journey in search of rescue to South Georgia, the many attempts to evacuate the men from Elephant Island, and the little-known story of the Ross Sea Party of the expedition, who established a base on the opposite side of the Antarctic continent to lay depots for the planned Antarctic crossing and in spite of horrible deprivation caused when their ship was swept out to sea in a storm, managed to complete all their work laying the groundwork for a trip that never happened. After rescuing his men on Elephant Island, Shackleton had to rescue this party as well, something pretty much ignored in most modern books about the expedition. Very much worth reading; also read "Heart of the Antarctic," Shackleton's book about his earlier expedition.

Good, but don't read this as your intro to Shackleton By Andy Orrock It's tough to criticize a book written by the man himself and say that other books are somehow better, despite the fact that these writers did not participate in the journey. But unfortunately, that is the case. If you're a real Shackleton fan, you'll want to read this book only as background after taking on works by Caroline Alexander or Alfred Lansing. In comparison, 'South' has the following shortcomings:1. The writing style is impenetrable & stilted. It has not aged well in the 80+ years since it was put down on paper.2. The misuse of Frank Hurley's photographs is annoying - they're out-of-focus, oddly chosen and misplaced in sequence in the book. See Alexander's book for a revelation of the power and majesty of Hurley's work.3. You only get Shackleton's point of view here. Lansing and Alexander pull together the journals of many particpants and you get a real flavor of the men that comprise the crew. Here, you get only Sir Ernest, dispensing some kind words about each member, last name only, no background info. The other books tell you quite a bit about flawed characters like McNish and Lees.

28 of 28 people found the following review helpful. A Terrific Adventure By Richard E. Meier This is the most astounding tale of survival I can recall. They weren't stranded in the Antarctic for days or weeks, or even months, but years. I'd only say that it is impossible for a reader to fully comprehend the degree of misery and privation these men endured. How do you fully describe the experience of living for 22 months in a single set of clothes, on ice, in rotting reindeer hide sleeping bags? If you liked Jon Krakauer's book, you will love this. I read this account, as well as the version by Caroline Alexander, and would recommend this version. Although this version had some photographs, Alexander's version had more extensive photographs.

From the Author Continuing on with our adventures Reclaimed will dive a little deeper into letting you know the characters. Believe it or not Book 1 and 2 were at one time 1 book but we felt that the story flowed better having book 1 end where I originally thought it should. So yes you can blame me for the cliffhanger and the immediate water action scene :) Reclaimed should answer any lingering questions that Reborn didn't and by now you should have a great feel for the differences between Superi and Earth. If not our website should have the rest or you can always ask me directly.

Diving deeper into the world of Superi By James B My favorite part of this book was seeing the heroes grow into their powers, and deciding to accept their destiny. Tristan and Co. are on a long journey to victory, and not many people can help them, besides themselves. I thought the middle section of the book started to get long, but then I really started to like the way the relationships between the 5 main characters developed in that part of the book. Tristan and Anilac may be the flashier heroes, but Set and Shashara are my personal favorites. Then the action kicks in, and it’s really intense. You can’t help but feel for the heroes, and hope that the villains get what’s coming to them. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in Book 3!

By Susan Maze What can I say...other than I am impressed with Reclaimed. It started a little slow for me. I think the main reason was that I was trying to get myself back into the Superi World and remember what happened in the last book. The main characters in this story have developed tremendously since the book one. Tristan has accepted that he is now Angeli though he may not know what all that will entail in the future. Set is probably one of my favorite characters. Being Epoto he has no one to guide him so he is learning has he goes. I also like the way Shashara has grown. She is still emotional with everything she went through but she has changed. She has developed her abilities further and does not back down when challenged. The main characters make new allies and go through harsh battles to make it to Palus Regia where they hope to find the help they need. Disaster does strike the closer they get to Palus Regia. Cliffhanger alert! I cannot wait until book 3 comes out so I can find out what happens!

When I'm Feeling Scared, by Trace Moroney

From Booklist Children know what it's like to be afraid, but they may have no idea how to handle the feeling. In Scared, a bunny boy is so frightened that his heart feels like it's beating out of his chest. Lots of things scare him: spiders, bullies, the dark. The book reassures children that scary feelings are natural and can sometimes help them steer clear of danger. Called a "touch-and-feel" book, this title features slightly raised images that add dimension to the darling illustrations. A few questions to "think about" enhance the book's already considerable usefulness. Other titles in the series address happiness, anger, and sadness. The Secret of Cape Lisburne: An Arctic Adventure, by Ron Monette

About the Author He has, for some decades, been keenly interested in what has been happening to our earth and its environment. His care for animals and sea life has prompted him to write this book. We have done so many things to harm and even destroy so many beautiful creatures and even the literal earth. He has witnessed the shoreline of beaches with dead fish and smelled the pungent odor that makes you feel like you have the flu from the "red tide." It brings him to tears to see sea birds covered in oil and dying. So he has written this book, though fiction, based on iron dumping in the oceans to make us aware of the devastation that can come from iron being put in coastal waters.

Charlie Bumpers is the middle child in the family with an older brother and younger sister. When his teacher assigns them homework to write a couple of sentences about family, Charlie is upset with his siblings due to their teasing. He completes his assignment, but his teacher is not satisfied with his effort and makes him think about it and redo it over the Thanksgiving holiday. Meanwhile the Bumpers are going to have a full house at Thanksgiving. Charlie is thrilled that his uncle is coming but when he finds out that his cousin, Chip is not only going to be staying at the house, but sharing his room he is not a happy camper. Chip is a thorn in Charlie's side who constantly gets him in trouble. When his brother and sister try to help him out, more trouble ensues. Charlie's father finally sits down with the three of them to find out what is going on. A great story with lots of fun characters and events, that will teach children about what family is all about.

By Young Mensan BookParade Charlie Bumpers is really excited when he hears that his Uncle Ron is coming for Thanksgiving! But, his spirits quickly drop when he is told that his very annoying cousin, Chip, will be coming along, too – AND staying in Charlie’s bedroom! A few days into the visit, the Bumpers children, Charlie, Matt, and Mabel, come up with a plan to stop Chip from ruining Charlie’s Thanksgiving. Will their plan succeed as they hoped, or will the holiday be ruined for Charlie? Read the book to find out. This book was an amusing and relaxing book, because there was a good balance between humor and action. As I got more into the book, the plot and the characters became more and more engaging. Also, I appreciated the strong emotions I felt about the characters. The author did a great job; I felt truly irritated when Chip was doing mean and unfair things to Charlie. This part was well written and really funny! My favorite character is Mrs. Walcott, because even though she is elderly, she is very humorous. Two reasons I like her are that she is very kind and has a thick accent. My favorite phrase she said was, “A rocket? On T’anksgiving? ” “Dat a big fun!” She made me laugh the whole time throughout the book!I gave this book 4 stars, since it was well paced and entertaining. It is the forth book in the Charlie Bumpers series, so fans of this story can read more about Charlie. I would recommend this book for 6-9 year-olds and 2nd-4th graders; the younger readers might need a little bit of help.Review by Brooke Z., Age 8, Delaware Valley Mensa
