I've been reading books of this ilk for nearly a decade and I am very impressed with the writing style; it piques your imagination with just enough detail to immerse you into each scene and leads you through the journey alongside the main characters.The Waking Dream has renewed my faith in the genre and gives hope that there is much more to the zombie roller coaster than the lather, rinse and repeat mode (bite the victim, turn the victim and repeat) that a lot of these books seem to be in. A definitive fresh take on an overwritten, often over hyped genre. I am really looking forward to the continuation of this story and more from this author.While not overly immersed with gore and viscera, this book does have its share of violence, but it is definitely not a detractor for the reader.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Cute night time read for the kiddo. By FJR1300 I read this to my kiddo over several nights as she was going to bed. While it was entertaining, there were MANY typos and grammatical errors. This gives a whole new meaning to run-on sentence, I suggest using the auto grammar check in Word. While self-publishing is an awesome way for new, amateur or young authors to get their feet wet, it does leave out the vital editing process. Overall, the book was a good age appropriate read for a seven year old. I even kind of enjoyed it; even if I am considered an old fart by some. With some editing and grammar check, this could easily be a five star book. And as a pet peeve, on the page following the end of the story, around the link to follow the author on Amazon, it says, " Your awesome!" My awesome what? iPad? Male pattern baldness? My awesome shoe tying abilities? Oh...YOU'RE awesome... Kind of like "Let's eat grandma" vs "Let's eat, grandma." Grammar saves lives. Or, "Their over they're with there stuff."

Forget what you think you know about Minecraft zombies By Rachel Horon If you thought you knew all about the zombies in Minecraft, you should read their diary as presented by Christopher Craft. Jandra and Mondo are part of the Borg family, and they share their adventures as they have a conflict with a particular villager named Steve. Steve finds their journals and wants to learn more about them. The zombies wonder about the things humans do and have while Steve is surprised by the intelligence level of the zombies. Everyone has their own agenda. It is interesting to see the different points of view, especially when it comes to how they log their experiences. It is the curiosity of Jandra, Mondo, and Steve about each other that will continue the entries for a few more stories. Good start to this series!

They go out after night falls turning any humans they come across into zombies like them.Steve found the zombies cave. He didn't know zombies could write much less have pets. He had the diaries of the zombie Jandra and Mondo. He was amazed that zombies were so smart.Steve and the zombies aren't the only point of views we get. We even get the point of view of the pets. Follow the adventure of these characters through this story.My seven-year-old son loves Minecraft so it was no surprise when we sat down to read this story that he loved it. Can't wait to read the next one.

I did not find 27 steps (I think roads are no longer there) and Chicken Water - both are near Akumal. GPS coordinates appear wrong too (maybe my GPS was set wrong) - tried to verify coordinate on known cave and they were still way off.Book has amazing potential but Mr. Gerrard need to drive each cave and ensure the directions are correct; so much has changed in the Rivera audit keeps . I've dove many of the usual caves so once I leave the beaten path the directions need to be somewhat accurate for the book to be valuable.

I was actually very surprised when the new addition arrived. I figured it would just be an updated version maybe some newer pictures.This version is jam packed with information that must have taken years to assemble and put into a systematic encyclopedia of the cenotes, caves and history surrounding Rivera Maya. Even though I have been visiting the area for nearly 10 years I found lots of new places to dive and good intelligence on how to do. Information such as where to pick up the key or who is the acual land owner can be hard to come by for visitors. Stee has pulled back the curtain on local only knowledge and generously shared with us all.I have first hand knowledge of several places mentioned in the book, some only very recently opened to the public and all the information is spot on from my experiences.Once upon a time this knowledge would only come from hard work establishing relationships and possibly multiple rounds of tequila with the right people. Anyone from backpackers looking to snorkel in a pristine Cenote to hardcore visiting cave divers will benefit from bringing the guide along with them in their gear bag.Thanks for the obvious labor of love! You have created a follow up edition that manages to surpass the excellence of the original. A rare accomplishment.

An amazing Book for anyone who is a cave diver or anyone interested in cave diving By Joseph W Adams III It's been a few years since I have dove the Cenotes. The last few years have been mostly in the caves in Central Florida. I received Steve's book this morning and spent several hours bouncing around in it reading the descriptions of many of the places I have seen and I look forward to reading more over the next few days of places I want to see in the Fall of 2016. Steve's descriptions are concise and yet give the true cave diver the ability to see what he has seen. Steve also goes into details about the landowners and flow of many of the systems so that we can better understand the systems and the history behind them. I think it is one of the best AI concepts ever invented. The basic principles rank with the great Asimov in predicting a possible future involving intelligent/sentient computers; probably not far off if they aren't here already! The saga comes to a wonderful termination, but totally unexpected and you will just love it.If you haven't read the previous novels, I hope you do so; they are all action packed, thought provoking and wonderful. This final installment, does a wonderful, while somewhat disturbing, conclusion to the series. It provides a LOT to contemplate while providing never ending action, surprise and twists you just don't expect.The author, young William Hertling has a grand and glorious future ahead and I, for one, cannot wait to see what his creative and inventive mind presents next!

The science and engineering that flowed throughout the first three books was all well presented and based on technology that is either presently in use or clearly near-term in our human future. But, this final(?) book is much more speculative because there are still legitimate major problems for science to solve in the areas of biology, DNA, physics and particularly quantum physics before a more accurate theory can be established regarding the true nature of "sentience." Can an AI be taught to think and make decisions? Of course it can, its happening now. Can the process of learning through advanced software algorithms eventually make a sophisticated AI sentient? That is far more problematic. This fourth book is good and if you enjoyed the first three you will not be displeased with it. The action and adventure in the plot continue to crackle. However, so far this series has been a tale of potentially achievable scifi at the highest level .... but not "fantasy" scifi !!! To my dismay, too much of the story-line in this final book involves an abundance of unverifiable speculation regarding sentience that becomes borderline fantasy rather than quality scifi. Precisely "what" constitutes sentience needs to be more thoroughly addressed but is regrettably, ignored. (I rated each of the first three books 5 Star)

A white knuckled adventure through the future of AI By Eliot Peper Nobody has a more sophisticated vision of the future of artificial intelligence than William Hertling. This fourth entry in the Singularity Series takes place decades in the future in a world where AI form the infrastructure of society in the same way that the Internet does today. That is, until a major disaster raises tensions sky high and put national governments and AI coalitions at odds. I love how Hertling weaves his deep technical sophistication into his vision of the future. It turns what could be a fun fantasy jaunt into a roller coaster riddled with questions that reflect our present wrestling with the social changes instigated by technological progress. Read it and think.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fun read By 2VApugs I was looking for a quick, fun read and this was it! This short book is filled with anecdotes that makes you feel like you were part of the author's group of festival-going friends. My favorite part was about their car getting blocked in - it was a good metaphor for life to not get frustrated at first, to think creatively. The author's passion for music and music festivals really leapt off the page. I only wish that it was longer!

My favorite was the outhouse incidences, because I have been in that situation more than once. The fear is always in opening that door. Watching performances are often like a breath of fresh air and the scenery is never the same thing twice. I definitely give this my stamp of approval.

In the last book, Charles Nukid is kidnapped by a bearodactyl. But get this, instead of eating him, the bearodactyl flies him back to Monster Kingdom where he is crowned King of the Monsters. That's right, Charles is now king. However being a king has empowered Charles and the power goes to his head a bit. And Charles really needs his head since Scary School-- and the world-- is under attack from zombies. With the help of his friends, Charles has to find the only thing that can help--a unicorn's horn given freely. Easy, right?Zombie's aren't really my thing. In fact, they creep me out more than any other supernatural creature. But because I love Scary School so much, I decided to brave it. Scary School already had Ramon the zombie, but he's like a cool zombie sports star, so he's not so threatening. But the zombies in this book are. You've been warned! But not so scary you'll have to sleep with the lights on. Unless you want to--that's totally your call.I really enjoyed reading the last adventure of the Scary School kids. It's kind of bittersweet to say goodbye to this series after all this time. Derek the Ghost is a great narrator to this unusual but lovable bunch of kids and teachers. This last adventure really showed how much the kids have grown over the last four novels. It was interesting to read about monsters, ghouls, and other mythical beasts in the past series. In this final book, when Charles Nukid was named the new monster king, little did he know that he would be challenged by Turlock the Troll and that his friends are on their way to save him.I’m not a big fan of zombie stories. Sorry Derek I find zombies boring. But I highly recommend this book for every young kid not afraid of zombies.The book is funny and entertaining for younger kids. From their shark fin hairstyles in the bath to the captain's too small pajamas (causing a belly button to peak out) and the wardrobe malfunction of one pirate who laughed too loud, this book is fun from start to finish. The zany and unique pajamas each pirate wears is wonderful! This book definitely shows the softer side of pirates which makes it perfect for the youngest crowd. Hairy Hank's situation (you've got to read the book!) was my kids' favorite part. The pictures are great with lots of hidden visual gems. 7 and 4 year old both agree... Two thumbs up! Way up!

Mr. Bear thinks that he needs to take Edith ("The Lonely Doll") and Little Bear away from their beloved New York City to escape the dirty air and streets. But Edith and Little Bear don’t want to move to the country, so they take up the cause of cleaning up the city. They carry signs protesting the city's dirty condition as they march in front of City Hall. Later, they find themselves on the evening television news, much to the shagrin of Mr. Bear. But even with their publicity, the protest does not seem to draw the attention of the city's Mayor. So Edith and Little Bear write a letter and send it directly to the Mayor. And the Mayor sends a letter back, urging Edith and Little Bear to do a little bit every day to clean up the city themselves, and to keep watch for any polluters. Edith and Little Bear follow the Mayor's advice, and they begin to clean up their neighborhood themselves. They even report a nearby building's very dirty plume of smoke rising from a chimney. Mr. Bear, seeing how much Edith and Little Bear care for their home and their streets, happily decides they can remain in their home in the city.

A Treasure By Theseus I stumbled on this book for the first time in many years.It is just as beautiful and creepy and evocative and lonely and charming as you remember it.And this is a large-format book in which the quality of the photography really shines.

Edith and Little Bear set out to clean up New York City to convince Mr. Bear that staying in the city is okay. Great story, great photos, a delight.

By Robert Beveridge Dare Wright, Edith and Little Bear Lend a Hand (Random House, 1972)Mr. Bear, Edith, and Little Bear live in a thinly-disguised Manhattan. Mr. Bear is not happy with the dirt and stink of the city, so he hatches a plan: move to the country, where things are cleaner. Edith and Little Bear aren't too happy with this idea, to say the least, so they decide that if they clean up the city, Mr. Bear will let them stay.Like most of the Lonely Doll books, Edith and Little Bear Lend a Hand is somewhat transparent in its motivation, but its heart's in the right place. And turning the attentions of the readers away from the interpersonal relationships among the admittedly odd family and towards outside influences for a change is refreshing. Most of all, Edith and Little Bear Lend a Hand, unlike most save-the-earth style juvenile storylines, is an eminently believable one; Edith and Little Bear do, in this book, about as much as real dedicated children would be able to do, instead of performing superhuman tasks.My favorite Lonely Doll book, even if you do know that things, as always, are destined not to end well. (If you've already read Edith and Midnight, you know why.) *** ?

Written with such passion and historical knowledge that I was able to suspend time and travel backwards. The twists and turns kept the plot moving at a pace that kept me reading and wanting more. In fact this novel has inspired me to learn more about the Cold War era. This was a great result of what happens when adventure meets history, along with a bit of "gothic".I will be eagerly waiting to see what Mr. Cauthen pens next!

Mr. Cauthen has woven a tale of romance and intrigue around real people and events of World War II and the years following. His attention to historical detail and knowledge of the spy trade are both impressive. I could hardly wait to get to the end to see how everything turned out. I wasn’t disappointed.

By Amazon Customer It is almost as if your are reading a true story written by the person who actually experienced the life of a spy in the cold war era. The details are amazing and all check out with historical accuracy. (Yes, I checked!) The plot is full of twists and turns. It is well written too. This book was an enjoyable read.

Branting.History has a place in every area, town, city or country of the world. Historians often research so that we may learn of our past, often in an effort to help our understanding of who we are and where we have come from, as well as alerting us to what we need to change in the future in order to grow and prosper.Things that occur in different regions often leave traces that affect far wider areas than can be imagined. In Wicked Lewiston, A Sinful Century by author and historian Steven D. Branting, we are introduced to an area in Idaho that has a past of murder and mayhem that seems incomprehensible.From the very beginning this area that is nestled in the confluence of two great rivers has drawn a crowd. The weather is lovely, the area full of fish and game, and the winters often without the snows that strike the rest of the country. Lewiston became a city before the police force as we know it began, giving those who had a penchant for trouble room to commit crimes and allowing even questionable deaths to go un-investigated.Branting has taken a timeline of offenses from the mid 1800's though the early 1900's depicting crimes of a nature that are disturbing even to this day. It is not even the crimes themselves that are so disturbing but their frequency that’s unbelievable. For a small area, even in the late 1800's, Lewiston was known for both crime and prostitution. Initially the capital of Idaho, it seemed to draw many of the seedier people, those looking for more than what was available in other, more structured areas.This is an interesting tale of an era that one would think was a thing of the past. However as with most cities and areas, sometimes death only hides its presence. Branting’s time line of nefarious deeds and circumstances takes you into the minds of those whose decision to take what they feel is their due, or to take the lives of others keeps you digging to find the cause.As the city grew, so too did crime. Murder and greed consumed those whose lives touched the wrong characters. From the back alleys of Lewiston to the glamour of Washington D.C, murder and corruption became just a little too bold as even those who left the area drew the wrong sort of attention.If you enjoy history and are also avid into real life crime and punishment, you will find this a work that would be great for your library. Branting researches the information and finds a way to make it both interesting and informative.This would make a great work for discussion group as they discuss the growth of law and discovery in an evolving era.

By stevenc47 As a native of the L-C valley I found this book very engaging. I found I even had a passing connection, albeit much later, with one of Lewiston's famous murders. I, too, worked at the CPRR & knew another comptroller operator that came after the lady that was murdered. I do remember that the prostitutes moved to Clarkston in the guise of massage parlors in the 60s. I did not know that Lewiston had such a bad rep. I remember it as being a great place to grow up.The book is great & I would heartily recommend it!I am hoping that Steve does a book regarding the 1995 incident he referred to.

The people in these stories are too interesting to be forgotten; too tragic to be left in the fringes of memory, fading with the passage of time. Thank you for pushing through the cobwebs and pulling these truths into the light.
