Smarter Backpacking - The Appendix - is a richly illustrated (more than 140 photos) and updated companion to Smarter Backpacking by the same author. It distils the complexity of wilderness travel into its simplest core concepts, allowing the reader to enjoy the freedom of backpacking rather than be encumbered by it. It is a book for day-hikers and thru-hikers, newbies and experienced backpackers or travellers alike. Everyone benefits from a lighter pack. Said about Smarter Backpacking: Jorgen Johansson has a no-nonsense, non-preachy approach, based on his 40 years of wilderness ramblings, designed to help average backpackers shave weight, not comfort or safety, from their loads. -Kristin Hostetter, gear editor Backpacker Magazine Some authors have a guru approach that's too specific to their personal hiking style, while others fail in offering practical advice because they're too generic and theoretical. Smarter Backpacking achieves a happy-medium: Jorgen Johansson shares his personal preferences and opinions, but he knows that backpacking is not a "one size fits all-activity" so he is sure to qualify his views and to recognize the views of others. -Andrew Skurka, renowned long-distance adventurer and a National Geographic "Adventurer of the Year" and Backpacker "Person of the Year" There have been several books on lightweight and ultra light backpacking since Jardine’s. One of the most interesting is Jörgen Johansson’s Smarter Backpacking, which is about applying lightweight and ultra light techniques. Jörgen is from Sweden , and his approach shows that lightweight backpacking can work in wet or cold northern climes. -Chris Townsend, outdoor writer and long distance hiker, gear editor of TGO Magazine and author of The Backpacker’s Handbook Jorgen Johansson distils the complexity of wilderness travel into its simplest core concepts, allowing us to enjoy the freedom of backpacking rather than be encumbered by it. His approach is not only a simpler one, but a vastly smarter one. -Ryan Jordan, Founder, BackpackingLight.com Smarter Backpacking aims to make better hikers through use of ultralight hiking techniques, rather than create more ultralight hikers. The spot-on advice is presented in an easy-reading conversational style, rather than a lecture, like you were sitting around a campfire with Jorgen Johansson. -Glen Van Peski, Founder and Chairman, Gossamer Gear

It is a pretty straightforward presentation of tried and tested lightweight solutions and gear that works 3-season above the timberline, in places like Alaska and nothern Scandinavia. So they should work pretty much anywhere low temperatures, rain or wind are the main issues. It is comforting that you also lern someting about the experiences with the gear proposed, though you could do without some of the experienses yourself. I pariculary liked the extensive section on rain gear that adresses issues I havent seen solutions for elsewere, circumstances you wouldn't want to experience but you may have to be prepared for.If you have read Jorgen Johansson before, you will will be able to follow how some things have evolved further from earlier books

In this sequel to Dawn, Lilith Iyapo has given birth to what looks like a normal human boy named Akin. But Akin actually has five parents: a male and female human, a male and female Oankali, and a sexless Ooloi. The Oankali and Ooloi are part of an alien race that rescued humanity from a devastating nuclear war, but the price they exact is a high one. The aliens are compelled to genetically merge their species with other races, drastically altering both in the process. On a rehabilitated Earth, this "new" race is emerging through human/Oankali/Ooloi mating, but there are also "pure" humans who choose to resist the aliens and the salvation they offer. These resisters are sterilized by the Ooloi so that they cannot reproduce the genetic defect that drives humanity to destroy itself, but otherwise they are left alone (unless they become violent). When the resisters kidnap young Akin, the Oankali choose to leave the child with his captors, for he the most "human" of the Oankali children will decide whether the resisters should be given back their fertility and freedom, even though they will only destroy themselves again.

This is the second volume in Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis series, a powerful tale of alien existence.

Nunnally Jr. This science fiction work follows up on Ms. Butler's earlier work, Dawn. The book stands alone fairly well, but the story will seem tremendously better placed into context if the reader has read the earlier book, Dawn. Ms. Butler creates yet another of her dystopian earths, but its final crisis is ameliorated by the intervention of an alien species, the oankali. The book tells a crackling good story, but also addresses a key theme--what does it mean to be human? I recommend this book, as it has the old-fashioned virtues of a golden age work, but is told in the fine, well-written style that characterizes Octavia Butler's work. Reading a Butler, one gets the impression that one is watching a grandmaster writing in her prime--and yet, the nice thing about reading her is the sense that the best is yet to come. If you have not read Butler, but you are afraid that sci fi has lost its zing, then read Dawn and this one.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. science fiction exploration of identity By Joe Sherry Now I know why the three volume Xenogenesis series was collected in a single volume titled Lilith's Brood. Adulthood Rites is the second entry of three in Xenogenesis and the focus has shifted from Lilith Iyapo to her part human / part Oankali son, Akin. In Dawn we were introduced to an Earth that had all but been destroyed by humanity before the remnants of humanity were rescued by the alien race Oankali. The Oankali survive and adapt by finding new species and civilizations to "Trade" with. In the rescue of humanity, the Oankali will Trade with humans and help humanity repopulate the newly restored Earth. But at a cost. Humanity will no longer be what it once was because a Trade involves both parties giving up something and receiving something in return. Humanity will get another step on the evolutionary scale but will be far more and less than what they once were. Lilith Iyapo was chosen by the Oankali to seed the first colony and awake the remnant from their slumber and teach them to accept the Oankali. In many ways she failed with that first group she was given, but by the end of Dawn Lilith was to found her first community while those who would not accept what had occurred were isolated and left sterile. Breeding could only happen with the permission of the Oankali. At the very end Dawn we learn that Lilith was pregnant. When Adulthood Rites opens, the story is focused on Akin, one of Lilith's hybrid children and her first son. Because he is part Oankali, Akin is aware in the womb and if he were fully human one would consider him unnaturally precocious. As it stands he is not fully human, though as an infant he looks human enough (except for his tongue). The focus of Adulthood Rites remains squarely on Akin with brief flashes of events surrounding Lilith, but only to a point. I would suggest that 95% of the story follows Akin as he grows and as he is kidnapped by raiders who seek to have children the only way they can, which is by theft. This theft, or kidnapping, of Akin is the event that drives how the rest of the story will play as it shapes Akin into something different than he might otherwise have been had he been left to bond with his siblings.A major theme of Butler's work here seems to be of the nature of identity. What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to be different? What does it mean to have an identity in a particular culture and embrace that of another? Or be embraced by another? Butler's fiction, in particular the Xenogenesis trilogy, addresses these issues in such a way that it fits a science fiction story with aliens and tentacles, but it is really a story that addresses what can go on in our society as well. There is a depth here once one looks beyond the surface of an interesting story. Make no mistake, Adulthood Rites is an interesting story. With all of that said about what the novel is about and what it is talking about, I do need to confess that like Dawn, I found Adulthood Rites to be less engaging and gripping than some of Butler's other fiction. In particular Kindred and the two Parable novels seem to me to be stronger works of fiction than Xenogenesis. What does that mean for the casual reader? Not much. Adulthood Rites would only be considered a "lesser" work of fiction when it is being compared to Butler's own work. Otherwise, I would suggest that Adulthood Rites (and Dawn before it) is a creative look at science fiction and how actually meeting an alien race could and would change humanity irrevocably. To be blunt, Butler tells a damn good story and keeps taking that damn good story in directions that were not necessarily apparent when the story began. She keeps it interesting and she keeps it authentic (as authentic as aliens changing the genetics of humans could be, but it feels real, and that's important).Bottom Line: Octavia Butler need to be read by more people. She was a top shelf talent with a powerful creative voice and Adulthood Rites is a good novel that suffers only, only in comparison to her own work. In comparison to others, she stands tall.-Joe Sherry

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. a brilliant sequel By Robert J. Crawford This book is far better than the first in the series. I was completely sucked into the characters, concept, and plot. The device of the alien child - a hybrid that is different from humans in obvious but also extremely subtle ways - is a unique creation in sci fi. His journey is fascinating and cruel, which makes a dark philospical statement on human nature. The dialogue is as excellent as you would expect from any fine novelist.

The exciting, action-packed follow-up to Soul Meaning and the second installment in the award-winning thriller series Seventeen.

The perfect immortal warrior. A set of stolen, priceless artifacts. An ancient sect determined to bring about the downfall of human civilization.

When a team of scientists unearth scriptures older than the Dead Sea Scrolls in a cave in the Eastern Desert Mountains in Egypt, a mystery lost to the tides of time is uncovered. Heading the expedition is Crovir noble Dimitri Reznak. But the discovery is spoiled by evidence of looting and half the priceless artifacts Reznak has been seeking for centuries have disappeared.

Alexa King is a covert agent for the Crovir First Council. When she is approached by her godfather for a mission that could help elucidate the enigma of her lost past, she finds herself delving into the dangerous and shadowy world of secret religious societies. Assigned by Reznak to assist her is Zachary Jackson, a gifted human and Harvard archaeology professor.

In their search for the missing artifacts, King and Jackson travel from North Africa to the doors of Vatican City itself, where they unveil a centuries-old plan that aims to shatter the very structure of civilized society.

With the help of Reznak and a group of unexpected allies, they must stop the enemy and uncover the astonishing truth behind the missing artifacts and King's own unearthly origins before all is lost.

Starrling is the second book in a series called Seventeen. Alexa King is an assassin for the immortal race, the Crovirs. Her adoptive father, Dmitri Reznak, enlists her in a mission, pulling her away from her job, which could reveal not only her own past but the past of the immortal races. King partners with the insufferable Harvard professor Zachary Jackson to help Reznak track down the thieves that looted caves that could hold the secret of the origin of the immortal races. As they hunt the thieves, they discover a secret society is working to bring down civilization as it is known. Together, King and Jackson must find the looted artifacts, find the thieves, contend with the growing emotional attachment between them, and fight for their lives while they are at it.Similar to the first novel in the series, this sequel was a fast paced adventure. It was unique from the first novel in that the characters were different. It was a story from the same world following the events from the first novel, but the focus of the story is on a different set of characters. I thought that this was especially unique and I loved the new characters. The story tied really well to the first novel without depending on it too heavily. This shift also builds up the world in the story a little more: it was from the perspective of another immortal race than in the first. I really liked all of the characters. I loved the relationship between Alexa and Zachary and I especially loved Zachary’s character. Alexa is a classic cold assassin and Zachary is the standard insufferable academic. But in their circumstances the characters seem to work. The driving mystery was fascinating and dug into the origins of the immortal races, again building up the world in the story some more. There were a lot of action scenes and they were fast paced. As action scenes are not my preference, this was frustrating because it was easy to become confused and the action fight scenes seemed to meld together. However, the action scenes were dynamic and were filled with details needed for the story to progress. The biological aspects in the first novel are replaced with archaeology and technology, which balance the fight scenes really well. The story had a great end and I’m really excited to keep learning more about the immortal races and the key players as this series progresses. The narration by Michael Bower was, as before, really excellent. He voiced all of the characters really well, which must have been challenging with the different accents. The pacing was good and the dynamics of narration that he displayed in the first novel were still present and made the story even better. The production quality was good as well. I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes fast paced action adventure stories with a lot of intrigue and history.Audiobook was provided for review by the author. Please find this complete review and many others at my review blog[If this review helped, please press YES. By Kindle Customer The perfect immortal warrior.....A set of stolen, priceless artifacts.....An ancient sect determined to bring about the downfall of human civilization.....Where the first one felt like I was reading and being dragged along in an episode of 24 (mind you for me this is a good thing) this one was like being part of a James Bond movie blended with Dan Brown (and I am saying this for your reference, mine would be James Rollins because I am not a Brown fan in the least.) This book is labeled a supernatural thriller and I would say that is as close as you can get to this. Ian Fleming world is in the realm of over the top spies with over the top bad guys. Seventeen involves a secret race of Immortals, and no they are not vampires. To revisit my explanation from the first review, the Immortals happen to be more Immortal-ish as in is they can die seventeen times and they do have a final death which tends to be visited by crows, it is all very beautiful, well except for the dying part, unless of course it is a bad guy and then umm I admit to have a small moment of fist-pumping and woohooing when this happened.Funny thing in the second book the bad guys instead of being all Immortals there were far less of them and more humans with a god complex and one big ugly that was compared to the Hulk (can you say ‘ROID RAGE ACTION.. oh ya, baby!). Yeppers, there is this esoteric society somewhat like the Freemasons (who also show up in the book) and they also happen to have a tattoo to match their name, The Rose Croix (Rose Cross). However they seem to have roots much older and also tend to attract psychotics and sociopaths! Of course they have a tattoo, they are after all baddies. Interestingly the book is written with tons of symbolism hidden in its pages and also with blatant “marks” and symbols of some sort are of great importance to this series. Lucas (lead protagonist of Soul Meaning) had his and Alexa has her birthmark. But let’s get more into why this is not just a great follow up to the first book but why it is another favorite for the year for me.I feel for the folks who decide to skip the prologue of a book because if you do, you will miss extremely powerful and fundamental prose which bear importance to the whole foundation of Alexa, our main protagonist and the Immortal’s roots this novel spends time exploring. Alexa is one of the most interesting alpha female warriors I have read in a while. In the last couple of years the market has been flooded, and I like these kinds of books but it was getting old. As it was with vampire books. Alexa is written with just enough of an edge of difference and in such a fast paced race to the finish line story you cannot help but become wrapped up in her story and fall a little in love.Dimitri Reznak, her godfather; the man who raised her after finding her standing with a bloody dagger in one hand in a battle scarred field, and whom we meet in the first book is racing to find the key to save another devastating war between the two families of the Immortal Race. He is probably the most important man in her life, but she has little use for anyone. Our introduction to her is his as well…“…it was not her startling appearance that stopped him in his tracks; it was the look on her face that sent a sharp chill through his bones and a shiver down his spine, immobilizing his legs."There was only one word to describe the expression in her eyes: fearlessness.”Alexa is happy to be alone, alone in her work, her life and everywhere else, then in walks Jackson, a tall drink of sumptin-sumptin! Basically smoking hot, again another thing to get this nerd girls panties in a twist. I cannot help it, this book maybe full of enough action to make any nerd-boy go “oooohhhhhhhhhh” and talk his girlfriend into getting a trishula henna’ed on the back of her neck, but it has the well written incredibly hot and steamy *insert some –bow-chicka-wow-wow– music* love makin’.Oh Jackson, ohhhh Jackson, what can I say about Jackson *swoon* Again, nerd heaven! He works out, he has an eidetic memory (great for when you are writing reviews and need trivial things to insert..*coughing* got one of them), multiple degrees, a sense of adventure and I have no clue why I think this is so hot, but he is from Montana. *shaking my head* I … ummm… find that hot. Anyway… enter the Jackson-man…"He rose and walked past her. Alexa caught his scent as she turned to follow him out of the bedroom. It made her think of campfires and expensive bourbon." ~ location 656 King’s CrusadeAlexa is now screwed, ha ha hahaha and we my friends have the two most awesome people to follow along on this fast paced adventure. Oh btw, again if you have heart problems? Make sure you have your doctor read this and OK you for it, either that or go read it in the ER just in case! Goodness gracious you think I am kidding? HAH the book even reads this fast! I could not put it down, but I am rambling a bit and need to wrap this up because I am not doing this book a service. The characters are amazing, well rounded and so beautifully written. The cover is bomb-tastic, wow is all I can say. I bring this up because the story is as beautiful as the cover, it is as alluring, mysterious and as she stands you wonder is this a sunset or a sunrise? It is both for as the sunsets on her old solitary life we are there for the beginning of her new one. Alexa had my heart in her super strong Immortal hands the whole read, and I only have one soul and one life to lose. The action is fast paced (as mentioend above) and you cannot turn the pages fast enough to get to the next scene. These books would make excellent movies. Action, adventure, mystery, romance, angst… it has it all! And Starrling has managed to put it all together even better. How can I rate it higher than the first one? Wait, do I like this one better? I am not sure, because honestly they are different. Third person point of view, she tightened up the writing more, though personally I felt the first one was just fine, and again if a book makes you forget to breath??? Yes go buy it!Well researched, again. The tech was awesome, and she really does an amazing job doing that. It is believable because it is real. Hats off to authors who bother to do more than go beyond Wikipedia! I want a secret lab under the cabin where I can concoct my secret bacon recipes which will save the planet from itself!Triggers? I really cannot think of any. The book has violence, but nothing more than you would find in a good Bond movie. There is the ancient mystery that could bring down one group and destroy centuries of piece within one race but it also is a threat to the human race, so again…REMEMBER TO BREATH!!!!!!! (If I could give this 10 stars I would!)

He was the main character of the first book of the series, Soul Meaning. Alexa made up for the loss of him though because she was a little Bad ass herself.Just like in the first book the main character is searching for something for the duration of the book. There is also a lot of action though not as much so it wasn't so dizzying. There was enough action to quench my thirst for it but not enough that I was drowning in it. There were some terms used during the fight scenes that I was unaware of. It's obvious that either the author knows a great deal about martial arts or did their research. I didn't think the unknown terms took anything away from the fight scenes which is a good thing because those are my favorite parts!Alexa was a fantastic lead character. She was one tough immortal that I would not want to mess with but would definitely want on my side. Jackson was a great character too, I was concerned about him considering how he is introduced into the story but he was very professional for the most part. Him and Alexa made a great team and they could both hold their own in a fight.I didn't immediately get into this book like I did in Soul Meaning but Alexa won me over quickly. At first I was turned off by the historical parts because I hate history. It's never been a good subject for me and I hate when my books have them but I ended up enjoying it. The search for the tombs was great and a very fun read. I can't wait to start the next installment of this amazing series.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I don't usually read action novels, but I couldn't put this one down By Kelly Murray I don't usually read action novels, but I couldn't put this one down. I loved the fact that this book's hero, Michael Rader, solves problems in a way that tries to avoid using guns or brute force. He's my type of brains over brawn action hero (and I think it's more realistic that way, too)! I also love his close working relationship with his partner, Gabriel Lang. That she's such a smart, brave, and deeply-developed female character is one of the things that really pulled me into the book. Actually, all the characters have real depth and personality. That they each have their own voice in my head was remarkable to me - that's not something I think you often get from an author's debut novel. So I look forward to more Michael Rader Adventures from this author!Speaking of character development - the bad guy in this book is a bit scary as a criminal mastermind. I don't want to leave any spoilers, but I was chilled by the fact that I was totally sympathetic to the vision Ryk Marius (the bad guy) developed and was pursuing, even while I was horrified by how he was going about implementing it! That made this book's biotech/horror plot so gripping that I lost sleep because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next (and I got so worried for Gabriel)!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This is a smart, well-written and character-driven debut action novel. By Chris Murray This is a smart, well-written and character-driven debut action novel. The lead character Michael Rader, is smart, dangerous and crafty. He’s tough, but he doesn’t rely solely on that toughness to solve problems; he uses his head. His right hand man - is a woman. Gabriel Lang is a strong, brave female character that has depth, the kind of believable character you don’t find very often these days. The story line is extremely timely for today and the bio-tech angle is so scary because it is believable. The bad guy is very bad and that drives the riveting action as Rader and Lang do battle to keep us safe. This is a fun, action packed page turner. I loved it.

The same as "Swedish Folk Tales" but with lower-quality illustrations By LoneGunman This book contains the exact same copy as "Swedish Folk Tales" (http://www.amazon.com/Swedish-Folk-Tales-Polly-Lawson/dp/0863154573) but with lower-quality images. I hypothesize that the text of these two books entered public domain so they both re-published. Go with "Swedish Folk Tales." It's a bigger, higher-quality book. I ordered both thinking there would be differentiation and there isn't.

31 of 33 people found the following review helpful. First Footsteps in Reading an Exciting Author By James Paris Sir Richard F Burton is one of the most famous of unread authors. Nearly everyone can tell you about his scandalous doings with native women, his marriage to an ultra-Catholic Englishwoman, and the latter's destruction of the author's private papers after his death. Ever since I read Fawn Brodie's excellent biography, THE DEVIL DRIVES, I have collected some 20 different Burton books and read most of them. If you make allowances for Burton's diabolical thoroughness (involved footnotes, appendices, foreign language quotes, tables, etc.) and his Victorian circumlocutions in dealing with taboo subjects, he is a truly wonderful read. Although FIRST FOOTSTEPS is not his most famous book, it is probably the best one to start with. The action is not only more focussed, but Burton did feel he needed quite so much of a scholarly carapace to report back to the scholarly organizations back in Britain. And it finishes up with a stirring postscript about an attack on Burton's camp by Somalis in which the author barely escaped with his life. Perhaps this is a book that Presidents Bush and Clinton should have read before committing U.S. troops to the region: Burton shows us that not much has changed in the region in 150 years. He was in constant danger, and survived only because his knowledge and guts were more than an a match for his enemies. This is an exciting book and deserves to be better known.

Junkins Though I was aware of Burton before reading this text, I had no idea how much I would enjoy his writing. His language is eloquent, with an almost stereotypically dry British wit, especially as he describes his companions. At times, Burton seems to lose himself in the aesthetic response to Africa's environment, allowing his writing to swell to almost purple prose in his descriptions.I also enjoyed reading this text through the lens of Edward Said's notions of Orientalism. Burton certainly falls prey to the Eurocentrism typical of his era, and at times his descriptions of the rationale of his Arab / Somali companions is borderline offensive. However, what I found most interesting in this text is Burton's own critique of Europeans. In First Footsteps, one could argue that Said's Orientalism isn't driven by culture but class. Burton is just as disgusted by the English working class as he is by Somali nomads. The Kindle version contains no illustrations; I would highly recommend referring to a map while reading First Footsteps. Also, the footnotes are not linked, but I didn't find that particularly bothersome.

Pyne The reviews of some of Richard Burton's books, as well as those of other 19th century explorers, strike me as hilarious. It's as if people expect that these books to be written in a style that would make for some blockbuster Hollywood movie. This is the REAL DEAL people! Burton didn't write this or other books with the idea in mind of entertaining 20th century couch potatoes starved for action. Apparently people's attention spans get seriously taxed when detailed observations about a country's people and culture are brought into play. When in fact, what could be more important in a first hand account of previously unexplored (at least by Europeans) regions? If you want action at every turn and tailor made story lines then stick with Tom Clancy novels or some such. Maybe faketion turns some would be adventurers on, but not me. This book is a truly incredible account of a larger than life adventure!

At his most immodest, Brian would like to believe Bill Bryson would be able to recognize his influence on this book. It's a humorous, informative and thoughtful exploration of modern Korean culture and expat life. The book is full of personal anecdotes, secondhand stories and interesting facts, which are all interlaced with his personal narrative. Brian discusses serious topics like Korea's deeply embedded racism, its 1950's style sexism, its demanding but unproductive work culture and its highly lauded but deeply flawed education system. However, he also talks about lighter subjects like K-pop, the expat and Korean dating scenes, its debaucherous drinking culture, and why he thinks Seoul should be considered the party capital of Asia. By time readers are done, they'll have an understanding of how a lot of expats view Korea, what some of its most significant and peculiar cultural differences are and some of the problems it's currently facing. This is a must read for anyone thinking of moving there.

An enjoyable and thought-provoking reflection on what it's like to be a foreigner living in Korea By Michael Karlin An excellent collection of research, observations, insights, and critical reflections on what it's like to live and work as a foreigner in Korea. As someone who spent two years living and teaching in similar circumstances, Brian Williams does an impeccable job of capturing this experience in its entirety. He uses a thoughtful combination of humor and critique in order to present an enjoyable, accurate, and at times critical portrayal of the waygook experience. If you are planning on working in Korea (or even just thinking about it), or if you've spent time there in the past, this is an excellent read. I found it both nostalgic and thought-provoking, and a wonderful opportunity to reflect on experiences I hadn't thought about since I had left. Thank you for sharing your story!

By AudioBook Reviewer Android Winter (Android X Book 3) is the continuation of Michael LaRonn’s series of humans vs androids. Xandifer “X: Crenshaw and Shortcut are set to rescue the day but not before encountering battles with other deadly android hunters in a barren desert area known as the Badlands. Throughout the series their assignment has been to track down rogue androids and destroy them. Now they are charged with keeping a deadly secret from the bad guys who want to rule the world after destroying it.X, Shortcut and others are desperately trying to keep the secret armies of frozen androids from being released and used for nefarious reasons. From the beginning it has been believed that the future belongs to Humans and Androids. This is one future that may just not be as positive as one believes. Each book is split into four hour lengths which make it appealing and easier to follow; one does not become lost.LaRonn does an excellent job of character development and plot development. He vividly describes battles and the struggle of X very well. Each character is important to the overall story – there are no useless distracting ones. All three books have flowed smoothly with no transition issues.Erik Johnson does an excellent job for all the characters. His narration of the backstory tends to be a tad bit monotonous and a few action sequences which do not come across as exciting as they could but overall he did a great job.Audiobook provided for review by the author. Please find this complete review and many others at my review blog[If this review helped, please press YES. The Android Winter Is Upon Us By Brian In Android Winter, X and Shortcut enter the badlands to figure out who is behind the recent attacks.Narration in Android Winter was done by Erik Johnson who did all three Android X books. His narration was the story. He became the characters and that really made this series a breeze to listen to for me. I like it when I can tell that someone really worked hard to make the characters shine, and I think that Johnson does that here. This was an interesting one for me. I loved all three stories, but I liked them a little less each time. I think because I felt like I had to wait for what to me felt like a full story that was split into three parts. Granted the 4 hour audiobook times were great, I flew through them without looking back. But I think that if this was released as a full story it would have gotten a 4.5 maybe even a 5 out of me.With that being said, the conclusion to this story was really enjoyable. Action packed, and full of surprised. Michael La Ronn didn’t hold back as he wrote the finale of this series and even pulled the wool over my eyes a full times. Shortcut is back and not doing well throughout, but with no spoilers there’s not much I can write about him. X is forced to face off against people he never expected — in a place he never expected to be.The story flowed really well throughout this book and through the whole stories (I see that now that they are finished, a full audiobook of the entire series is now published too (which I would HIGHLY recommend). The series was incredibly fun, fast-paced and a lightning fast read/listen.

Dining with...Monsters!: A Disgusting Way to Count to 10!From Baruzzi, Agnese (ILT)

Review “From the ‘Horrible Monster, Black-As-Coal’ who devours ‘1 spider whole,’ to the ‘Nasty Goblin, Slimy-Sloppers’ who ingests ‘10 poor grasshoppers,’ creatively named creatures consume their favorite cuisine. Held vertically, this handsomely designed counting book presents bright and bold close-ups of monster faces. Large flaps drop down to mimic opening mouths, reveal the rest of each rhyming verse, and depict the appropriate number of just-gobbled goodies. Kids will eat this one up.” —School LibraryJournal
