By P Hodson This book is the spirit of America, the many heroes both big and small that would and do give their lives for their country - be they our fighting troops overseas, fireman tearing though rubble in hopes of rescuing others, or small town people willing to give up their lives for what they believe in. Natasha Greene is who we all hope we would have the courage to be. But she's not a Saint; she's real - often ditzy, forever fueling her body with good ole American junk food, and loyal to a fault to her friends. The action is non-stop through 331 pages, with numerous stops and pitfalls, some stupidly caused by the heroes, some happening just as we would expect from terrorists in our own backyard. May our Home Defense never be put to this test. A real book with laughs and tears; one no one who loves their country should miss.

The action and suspense as well as the great characterization make this book hard to put down. Sometimes I wanted to shake the impulsive, often scatterbrained, but intelligent and gutsy heroine, Natasha Greene, but I couldn't help pulling for her as she risked her life in her loyalty to others. Other characters I thoroughly enjoyed were her teenage neighbor, David, her friend Trevor, and the faithful dog, Hero.

I couldn't put it down.I find Natasha easy to relate to, she reacts through her heart felt feelings, even in danger. This was so intriging, edge of seat reading. When I had to put it down, I found myself excited about picking it back up to find out what happened next. I have a whole new respect, and admiration for the author. J.Rose

By sarah hardy Jack is back in the sixth book in the Nightingale series.Ideally it would be better to have read other books in the series so you can fully enjoy this book. The main reason is there are a few characters that have been with Jack for some if not all of the series and the background to these characters is something you do not want to miss out on.Stephen Leather has written yet another brilliantly thrilling novel full of demons and devils galore. One person I do miss from the earlier books is Jenny, Jacks assistant and I wish Stephen could find a way to bring her back as, as much as I enjoy these books there has been a sense of something missing. In this book though there is a new strong female role, Perez. Maybe this is a lady that will be making more appearances and will fill the female void that I have missed.Fans of the Nightingale series certainly will not be disappointed with the latest in the series. Jack is his usual superstitious self, he seems to be even more wittier than usual also. I loved how many times the americans mistook him for being an australian and you could feel his patience running out. New York Night is certainly a dark and chilling read that seems to have more blood and gore than usual and it certainly made for a chilling read that does not disappoint. As soon as I pick up one of this authors books I know I am in for a fast paced read that will have me hooked from beginning to end. The Jack Nightingale series is great for fans who like crime books mixed with the super natural.

Great 7th in a series pits Jack against some downtown demons By James Tepper NEW YORK NIGHT is the seventh Jack Nightingale novel by author Stephen Leather, and the second (novel - there are a couple of short stories as well) to take place in the US rather than the UK. For information on how and why Jack came to leave his entire life and (almost) all his friends in the UK with all of them thinking that he is dead, see LASTNIGHT, the 5th novel in the series.Jack is now a sort of gopher for the fantastically wealthy, multi-billionaire Joshua Wainwright, who is himself a magical adept. Wainwright has had cameos in most of the latter JN stories, and he is an ambiguous figure. He pays Jack to help him root out various and sundry demonic and other tenebrous happenings, and was a key figure in saving Jack's life back in LASTNIGHT, but the reader keeps getting mixed messages about him such that we (and Jack) are never 100% certain which side he is on and what he really wants. This time, Jack is sent to NYC to find out about some gruesome murders involving lots of cutting of the victims, that appear to be intended to obfuscate a different demonic sigil carved into each victim. There circumstances and locations of the murders are also strange, and very similar to a recent murder in Philly. Wainwright arranges an entré to the scene for Jack by sending him to Cheryl Perez, and ex-NYPD homicide cop who, like Jack, is now a PI. Cheryl is a devout Catholic and as things start to get really creepy, and Jack starts to get a handle on what is going on, he has to try to balance his attempts at a fix while still shielding Cheryl from a truth about what is really out there that she just cannot accept. Now is the time for all the usual kudos to Leather for writing, pacing, plotting etc. They're all great. And while I still miss Jenny, Robbie, bacon sandwiches (Leather must know that we have bacon in the US) and the MG, NEW YORK NIGHT is, I think, a much better novel than its predecessor, SAN FRANCISCO NIGHT. Jack is acting more like the old Jack, there is ton of magical mayhem, as well as a mystery as to who or what is really behind everything, and Cheryl is an interesting female foil or maybe more for Jack. If I have any quibbles, its that Stephen Leather is so canalized with Britspeak that in a few places, he has Americans saying things that no American would say. Stephen, mate, if the next novel is set in the US have one of your American friends give it a read to de-British the American dialog.Highly recommended.JM Tepper

Baroness' Book Trove's Review of New York Night By Amazon Customer Wow this is the first book I read of the Jack Nightingale series and I must say that I was impressed by how well written New York Night by Stephen Leather. Once I got my hands on the eBook I was instantly hooked on it. Granted it took me a little bit longer than excepted to read this book but I didn’t mind it was a really good book.I am giving this book five butterflies for a rating because it sucked me in and it was just an excellent read. I know, I know if it was such a good read why didn’t I finish it sooner is probably the question most of you are probably thinking. The reason for that is because sometimes real life takes over you for a little bit and that is what had indeed happened to me.Jack Nightingale is a British supernatural private investigator that has a friend in the United States that wanted him to handle two cases in New York that had to do with the supernatural business well mostly Hell but yeah same thing. The reason this certain person contacted Jack about these two cases is because he couldn’t think of anyone he trusted better than Jack to keep an eye on the two cases and figure out with what is going on in New York and another state. The evil agents from Hell kept jack on his toes. They twisted him all around New York staying a few steps ahead of him. Lilith was by far my favorite bad. As she kept a low profile, stayed in the shadows and kept the other bad guys in line. She has quite a mouth on her, and I like her snarky attitude.I don’t want to spoil it for the people that haven’t read it since that is something that I don’t like anyone doing no matter who that person is. All I am going to say though is that this is an awesome read. However the previous six books sound just as amazing as this one. If anyone were to ask me about a good supernatural detective book I will most certainly tell them to read a Jack Nightingale book. So, grab that hot chocolate, blanket and this Jack Nightingale mystery and you won't have to go out in the snow.Anyways until the next time enjoy this book review brought to you byBaroness’ Book Trove.PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PUBLISHER ASKED ME TO READ AND GIVE AN HONEST REVIEW FOR THIS BOOK!To read more of my reviews like this one please visit my blog: baronessbooktrove.com

The Keepers of the King's Peace, by Edgar Wallace

About the Author Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace was born illegitimately in Greenwich, London, in 1875 to actors Mary Jane Richards and T.H. Edgar. As an infant he was adopted by George Freeman, a porter at Billingsgate fish market. Aged eleven, Wallace sold newspapers at Ludgate Circus and upon leaving school took a job with a printer. He later enlisted in the Royal West Kent Regiment, before transferring to the Medical Staff Corps, and was sent to South Africa. In 1898, he published a collection of poems called 'The Mission that Failed', and subsequently left the army to become correspondent for Reuters. South African war correspondent for 'The Daily Mail' followed and his articles were later published as 'Unofficial Dispatches'. His outspokenness infuriated Lord Kitchener, who removed his credentials. He then edited the 'Rand Daily Mail', but gambled disastrously on the South African Stock Market. Returning to England, Wallace at first reported on crimes and hanging trials, before becoming editor of 'The Evening News'. It was in 1905 that he founded the Tallis Press, publishing 'Smithy', a collection of soldier stories, and 'The Four Just Men'. The latter was published with the ending removed as an advertising stunt and he offered oe500 to readers who could successfully guess the ending. Unfortunately, many did and he was almost bankrupted. At various times Wallace also worked as a journalist on 'The Standard', 'The Star', 'The Week-End Racing Supplement' and 'The Story Journal'. In 1917, he became a Special Constable at Lincoln's Inn and also a special interrogator for the War Office. The Daily Mail sent Wallace to investigate atrocities in the Belgian Congo, a trip that provided material for his 'Sanders of the River' books. In 1923, he became Chairman of the Press Club and in 1931 stood as a Liberal Parliamentary candidate for Blackpool. Wallace's first marriage in 1901 to Ivy Caldecott, daughter of a missionary, ended in divorce in 1918 and he later married his much younger secretary, Violet King. Along with countless articles, some 23 screenplays and many short stories, Wallace wrote more than 170 books, which have been translated into 28 languages and sales of which have exceeded 50 million copies. Over 160 films have been made from his books - more than any other author. In the 1920's one of Wallace's many publishers claimed that a quarter of all books read in England were written by him. His sales were exceeded only by 'The Bible'. He died in 1932 whilst working on the screenplay for 'King Kong', having moved to Hollywood after being offered a contract by RKO.

I remember reading this book many, many years ago but now I wonder what was I thinking. The book is set in the early part of the 20th century and is about a British official in darkest Africa who has to keep the native population pacified. The Brit is very, very, British and the whole book seems very patronizing and racist.

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Not the best By María Del Rosario Gutierre I am fonder of the stories which take place in London and whereabouts. Anyway, Wallace's novelsare always interesting. Bye.

--Vamos a entrar. -Dijo, indicando con su dedo índice hacia la casa misteriosa. --Estás loco, ahí no entro.

Tales of the Theme Park Twins

As twins, Julianna and Carmela are used to doing everything together. Why should the Disney College Program be any different? Join these bubbly girls from Long Island as they live their Disney dreams in the Magic Kingdom, the Grand Floridian, and DinoLand.

The "Earning Your Ears" series chronicles the experiences of young people from around the country and around the world who leave home, often for the first time, to live and work in Walt Disney World or Disneyland for several months, or even longer.

Each book in the "EARS" series makes you an honorary cast member as the author takes you behind Disney's pixie dust curtain to learn things the Mouse would prefer you didn't know, and what no guidebook will tell you, including how the theme parks operate from the inside out and what Disney employees do when they're not wishing you a magical day.

In Julianna and Carmela Earn Their Ears, former Disney World cast members Julianna and Carmela Cavallo recount:

  • Why the guest is always right at Disney's Grand Floridian, even when they're cursing at you
  • The surprisingly stressful job of character attendant in the Magic Kingdom
  • What it's like backstage at Fantasmic!
  • The job that time forgot: wrangling guests into and out of their Time Rovers in Animal Kingdom's DINOSAUR

If you've ever wondered what it would be like not just to visit a Disney theme park but to work in one, the "Earning Your Ears" series is your E-ticket!

I thought it was incredibly fun to read the chapters as they went back and forth between the twins compared to the normal chapter layout. The book gives detailed information about the Disney College Program and it is a must-read for anyone who is thinking about applying for the program. It was an excellent read, I certainly enjoyed it!

Kinsey A reasonably fun read but suffers from what many of the books in this series suffer from, some challenging writing (they aren't professional authors per se) and poor editing at times. There were also some sections where I completely lost interest, specifically the discussion on which bus in the WDW system took you where. But from the perspective of someone thinking about the college program, that might be interesting. That being said, one of the things I really did enjoy was the two perspectives of cast members working very different jobs that had their own unique characteristics and challenges. It's a fun read, especially if you enjoy the behind the scenes look at cast member and the Disney College Program.

You could tell how invested these girls were in their experience. Well worth reading if you have read the rest in the series. So if it is so good why only 3 stars? Editing / Proofreading. The grammar and proofreading of this book are atrocious. I question if anyone actually attempted either on this book. Considering this written by a set of twins, you would have at least expected the other to have proofed the work. From the number of errors in here, I question if even that basic editing step took place. And Theme Park Press should be embarrassed and appalled to have something so poorly edited published under their name. Sentences that just make no sense, paragraphs where the tense changes so often its like watching a tennis match. It is so bad it took what would have been a 5 star book and lowered it to a point where I can only give it 3. Theme Park Press - YOU OWE READERS BETTER.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Florence Nightingale By J.E. Stephens I bought this to use in my 6th grade reading classroom. It is excellent to use to teach reading skills such as main idea, author's purpose, or summarizing. I put it in a center and students have 10 minutes to use the book for an assignment. Since it is at a lower reading level, students have success in building skills to use in higher level texts. This book is a good addition to the grade 1-6 classroom library.

Best PDF Ebook Online Godfrey Morgan: A Californian Mystery, by Jules Verne

Godfrey Morgan: A Californian Mystery is an 1882 adventure novel by French writer Jules Verne. The novel tells of a wealthy young man, Godfrey Morgan who, with his deportment instructor, Professor T. Artelett, embark from San Francisco, California on a round-the-world ocean voyage. They are cast away on an uninhabited Pacific island where they must endure a series of adversities. Later they encounter an African slave, Carefinotu, brought to the island by cannibals. Although the setting is different, the robinsonade plot is a variation on the theme of rational self-sufficiency that Verne developed earlier in The Mysterious Island (1874). At the time of publication, it was common for a young man of wealth to undertake travel as an educational rite of passage, for example the California heir Leland Stanford, Jr. who took two European Grand Tours, one in 1880-81, and died on the second in 1884. The original French version of Verne’s novel was published in 1882, after Stanford’s first tour.

Godfrey Morgan: A Californian Mystery, by Jules Verne

About the Author Jules Verne was a French writer and pioneer of the science fiction genre through novels like Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, A Journey to the Center of the Earth, and The Mysterious Island. A visionary, Verne wrote about air, space, and underwater travel long before the ability to travel in these realms was invented, and his works remain amongst the most translated, most continually reprinted, and most widely read books of all time. Jules Verne died in 1905 having paved the way for future science fiction writers and enthusiasts.

The primary detractor for me was the underlying romance...it came across as perhaps something Verne was encouraged to add to please his publisher. Not nearly as scientific as some of his works, probably intended for a younger audience. Nonetheless, still pleasing to read.

I quickly got captivated by the way the author makes his world come to life before ones eyes. It's as if I've been to Bandagora myself. Great description of bother characters and the political geography of the fantasy world. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Lights....camera....action! By John M. W. Smith When I first started reading Beyond The Law; Retribution I was confused by the bewildering array of characters introduced every few pages before I realised that most readers would already be familiar with many, having been introduced to them in the first book, Beyond The Law. So although this follow up can stand on its own and it is not absolutely vital to read the first book in the series, it certainly helps. And rest assured that the purchase of both books provides more than adequate entertainment value for money. When I got to the chapter named “Easterhouse, Glasgow, Scotland” suddenly everything became much more alive for me, and from then onwards I did not have to look back to remind myself about the players involved. This is not to say that I didn’t enjoy the narrative before this point. I did. Especially the poetical proximity of sex and death in two scenes which very naturally follow on from each other. But the “Easterhouse” chapter was particularly well done with its depiction of drug dealers, and I am sure that the true to life detail is provided solely by this writer’s penchant for exhaustive research. It is unnecessary for me to write about the story itself, as this has already been amply covered by other reviewers and by the description. The methods used by the characters to inflict violence and death upon each other were an eye opener even for the somewhat jaded eyes of this reviewer. These methods are extremely creative and intriguing, and if this be your pleasure then you are in for a treat. But there is an over-riding aspect that I am anxious to dwell on, and it is this; the narrative of this book would do extremely well in movie form, where the focus is on creating enough interest in every scene to hold the attention of the countless aficionados of the action movie who revel in entertainment that moves at break- neck speed and where the storyline is not that important. So I think that Tom Benson should also consider channelling his abilities into screenwriting based not only on his talent for quick-fire edge of the seat action sequences but also on his ability to make each action scene different; each scene is detailed and meticulous in its construction when it comes to setting it up and playing it out to maximum impact, easily lending itself to movie making. I would urge this writer to continue writing these books but also to consider branching out into screenwriting. An august institution such as The London School Of Journalism has excellent courses available to learn the technical aspects of screenplay presentation, and I myself have benefitted from its other distance learning courses in the past. So hark closely, Tom Benson, for Hollywood beckons!

By Rudders This is a retribution themed novel once again dealing with those criminals whose cunning and resources enable them to operate beyond the constraints of the judiciary and elude the regular forces of law and order. Such is the violence and ruthlessness of such men it takes an equally resourceful and ruthless approach in dealing with such criminals, cue the reappearance of ex SAS operative Phil McKenzie aka the Hawk, and his unique band of cohorts collectively now known as BTL (Beyond the Law) enterprises. Hawk and his associates are every bit as ruthless as the criminals they face, with the added advantages of the very best military training in weapons, field-craft, and covert operations. Operating as they do outside normal police investigation and procedure they can’t be openly supported by the regular police, but they can still draw on the covert support of the British intelligence services and their unofficial police contacts, as well as here, some more 'unconventional' allies. Our introduction to Phil McKenzie and the formation of BTL enterprises was dealt with in the prequel to this book. Although there is sufficient explanation and references to the past to allow it to read perfectly well as a stand-alone book I would still recommend reading the prequel first to enjoy it to its full; as well as being re-acquainted with ex SAS operative Hawk, the attractive ex intelligence operative Annabel, the equally stunning motor bike riding Rachael, former pick-pocket Jake, and one or two others, several new colourful characters are added to the mix: Max, the leader of biker gang the Mental Riders, and Intelligence operative and linguistics expert, Ian, to name but two. There are also some pretty brutal and sadistic new villains as well in the shape psychopathic twin brothers. The story kicks off with the audacious escape from prison custody of Martin Cameron, who within minutes of his escape embarks on his vicious return to crime and violence; determined to re-establish and expand his control of all of Scotland's major criminal activities, there follows a bloody trail of violence and dead bodies along the way; he also plans his painful and sadistic revenge on the man responsible for his imprisonment, Phil McKenzie. What he isn't aware of though is just how eager someone else is for equally sadistic vengeance against him or indeed just how better organised and equipped Phil McKenzie and his organisation are now. In the interim, Martin Cameron's plans to organise a massive drug shipment into Scotland once again bring him to the attention of one of the Hawk's former cohorts despite being on the other side of the world at the time. This is what Tom Benson does best, drawing on his own military experience and memories of growing up on the hard streets of Glasgow, coupled with a true story teller’s imagination. Once again, the author’s attention to plot detail and consistency rivals that of say a Frederick Forsythe novel, and is handled with the same careful planning as the covert operations of the story. The precise levels of detail related to weaponry, covert surveillance, and urban and rural field-craft are excellent, enough to place the reader right there with the characters but not so much to distract from the main story or bog the reader down. The characters are well-developed by way of the gritty and realistic dialogue and the things they do. I also enjoyed seeing how some of the characters had evolved since first encountering them in the prequel, and I must say, the writing here is even sharper and more streamlined than before. I was also impressed at how Phil McKenzie took more of a 'behind the scenes' role here, allowing some of the other characters to really come into their own rather than relying just on him to carry the story. As always, Tom Benson rounds up the conclusion and loose ends most effectively, and leaves the reader with a tantalising hint of another sequel. The way the story is structured and has evolved from the prequel could lend this two book series (so far) to a whole series of books along the lines of Lee child's 'Jack Reacher' series...*purchased via Amazon.co.uk, hence not appearing here as a verified purchase.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Another excellent thriller By barbara The thing about a sequel is that you wonder if it can be even better than the first book. The answer in the case of Beyond the Law – Retribution is a resounding YES, although both books are brilliant. In the sequel all the main characters have developed in the intervening years. Then they team up with an unlikely group – a very rough motorcycle gang. The mutual respect that develops between our highly specialised covert operatives and the gang is pleasing to see. As you would expect from Tom Benson, the baddies are the worst kind of vicious lowlifes topping even the worst crimes they committed in the first book. The ante is definitely raised, the suspense gripping and the reader has to hang on for dear life. This book is not for the faint-hearted. I loved it, as I did the first and hoping that a third is underway. These characters are too good to leave resting for long.

About the Author Wie lebt man ohne Sandy Kien?

Libby of High Hopes, Project Blue Ribbon, by Elise Primavera

Review When summer begins, Libby starts to practice horseback riding and jumping in earnest, a process made difficult by Saddleshoes, the unruly pony she is assigned to ride. Determined to win a blue ribbon at a horse show, she spends more time at High Hopes Horse Farm with a younger rider driven to excel, and less time with her longtime best friends. Believable dialogue and vivid characterizations enhance the story, which Primavera illustrates with lively, sometimes amusing pen-and-ink drawings. A fine choice for fans of horses and riding, the second book in the Libby of High Hopes series is as enjoyable as the first. — Booklist, Carolyn Phelan (Booklist Online November 12, 2015)

LIBBY THE RIDER

Libby Thump wished for a blue ribbon. A satin royal blue ribbon with a rosette and the words “First Place” written in gold lettering. There was going to be a horse show in three weeks and that’s exactly where she hoped to win one. Libby was excited because Sal, who owned High Hopes Horse Farm, was supposed to tell her today if he thought she was ready to ride in the show. She sat on the floor of her bedroom trying to pull on her left boot. “Come on,” she said impatiently, but it wouldn’t budge. She’d grown an inch since last summer and the riding boots that had been handed down from her sister were beginning to get tight. She yanked off the extra pair of socks that she’d always worn and pulled on a pair of thin ones. It did the trick and her foot slipped into place. She jumped up and reached for her riding helmet, when something caught her eye. Libby tilted her head and squinted at one of the many drawings of Sal’s retired show horse, Princess, she’d taped to the wall. She suddenly noticed for the first time there was something wrong with the way she’d drawn the white mare and grabbed an eraser and pencil off her table to fix it. “Libbyyyyyyyy!” her mother called to her. “Please walk the dog!” “In a minute!” Libby called back. Margaret gazed up at her and wagged her tail expectantly. Libby got the leash—the drawing would have to wait—but as she turned to leave she caught a reflection of herself in the mirror. There were the same long dark braids, dark eyes, and oval face, but in her boots and jeans and quilted vest she looked like a real rider! Libby wondered what her fourth-grade teacher from last year would think of her now. Libby remembered what Mrs. Williams had written on Libby’s report card the last day of school. Libby needs to apply herself. Sometimes she does not pay attention or follow directions as well as she should. Libby needs to live up to her potential! Back then Libby wasn’t even sure what potential was. By now she had memorized the meaning of the word: “something that can develop or become actual.” Libby knew just what that “something” was, too; she was a rider! It was what she was meant to be. She just hoped that she had the potential to someday become a really good rider. She thought she could feel it in there, just itching to get out! Sure enough, a lot had changed since Mrs. Williams’s class. Throughout the fall and all winter Libby had been riding Princess, and she was even learning to jump. Libby moved her face closer to the mirror. She sucked in her cheeks and tried to imagine what she would look like when she was grown up. Would she be a really good rider by then? Did she have what it would take? “Libbyyyyy!” her mother called again. Libby glanced at the clock on her night table. “Oh my gosh!” she cried, and raced out of the room with Margaret scrambling behind her. “Laurel! Laurel!” Libby pressed the leash into her sister’s hands. “I’ve got a lesson—I don’t want to be late—just this once, please? Thanks!” Libby tore out of the house. Her sister stamped her foot and yelled, “Libbyyyyyy!” Libby pretended she didn’t hear and ran as fast as she could through the park to the path in the woods. She never stopped till she stood in the grassy field on top of the same hill as in the pictures that she’d covered her bedroom walls with. “Princess! Come on, girl!” Below the horse nickered and soon there was a thunder of hooves. The white mare’s mane whipped in the wind as she galloped up to meet the girl. She skidded to a stop and nudged Libby’s pocket for a carrot. Libby jogged down the hill and Princess followed behind like an enormous dog. There was the smell of damp earth and new grass. All winter Libby had been looking forward to spring and now it was finally here. She breathed in deeply and sighed. The sky was blue and the air was just beginning to have the first hint of warmth. At the gate she grabbed the halter and slipped it over the mare’s nose. “This has to be our best lesson yet, Princess!” Libby knew that she would have to ride extra-specially well this day in order for Sal to think that she was good enough to compete in the horse show. As soon as they entered the barn Brittany poked her head out of a stall where she was tacking up Summer, the horse she always rode. Libby’s and Brittany’s moms were best friends and that had automatically made Libby and Brittany best friends since they were babies. They’d had a “misunderstanding” last year, but now Libby was glad they were best friends again. “Lesson today?” Brittany asked. “Yep!” Libby grinned as she passed. At the end of the aisle was one of Sal’s boarders, Mr. McClave and his horse, General George. “Hi, Mr. McClave!” Libby shouted. The old man paused from brushing off his horse. “All ready for your lesson?” “All ready!” Libby answered, and secured Princess to the cross ties. She hurried to the tack room. A blond curly-haired woman in jeans and hacking boots bustled down the aisle with several flakes of hay that she threw into stalls. Emily was Sal’s wife and helped him run the stable. “Hi, Emily!” Libby called to her. “Libby!” Emily called back. “Sal will be right out!” “Great!” Libby grabbed her saddle and bridle and felt the butterflies in her stomach that were always there right before she was to have a jumping lesson. She still couldn’t pass by the photos in the tack room of Sal riding the big white horse over the gigantic fences without getting goose bumps. Now here she was, Libby Thump, jumping Princess herself. She was so anxious to get out to the ring that it was all she could do to take the time to pick out each of the mare’s hooves and then brush her off and tack her up. Libby’s fingers nervously fumbled with the snaps on her riding helmet. All ready, she led Princess down the aisle. She wanted everything to go well this afternoon. Brittany poked her head out of Summer’s stall again, “Watch out for Saddleshoes!” “Oh no!” Libby groaned. “Oh yes!” Brittany said. Outside Libby could see that Brittany was right. There was Saddleshoes. With his dazzling white legs, brown spots on his neck and rump, and a handsome blaze down the front of his face Saddleshoes was the best-looking pony around. But . . . as far as Libby was concerned he was also the worst pony there ever was. Libby entered the ring careful to steer Princess far away from him, for he could deliver a mean kick. Suddenly there was a gust of wind and Saddleshoes spooked to the side. Somewhere the sound of a tractor started up and he shied and tried to buck.

I am planning to have a grand vacation at my sister's place and before I go there, I want to know more about the place that is why I purchased this book. I've learned a lot from this book. It seems that I have traveled to the places in POrtland while reading the book. The book mentioned the tourist destinations where I would like to go. I would like to visit the Hoyt Arboretum, the Rose Test Garden, Japanese, and the Chinese Lan Su Garden, and the Columbia River Gorge. I commend the author for writing this book. I do have some recommendations though, It would be great if there are also colorful pictures of the different places. Overall, its a thumbs up!
