This is not yet available at audible.com for some reason.I note this author, and this series, is a huge hit on Amazon. Having said that, I have read none of the previous books, so, bear with me. My eyes are a fresh look at this monster hit series. This is a combination war storie, science-fiction action-adventure. In other words, this book will best address the cravings guys have for hot and dirty get-in-your face action with no, uh, politically correct niceties.Put another way, this is not a story we ever are likely to view on Hallmark Channel. For me, that is great, for I read it in parallel with a book that is perfect for Hallmark. I needed to offset that other excellent literary work with something that, if not a literary masterpiece of mainstream prose, would appeal to my John Wayne/Clint Eastwood cravings.Okay, I admit it, I am an old geezer. I love gritty shoot-em-ups and football.Even so, I also sometimes abhor stories of war guys loving the action shooting enemies whom they don't acknowledge as also being human. Navy Seals with Charlie Sheen was, for me, a total waste of time, even though I usually love his flicks. So, that should let you see why I was so late in discovering this great series of stories that, despite not being great literary works and despite not working towards character development. I have been trying to avoid stories that feel too similar to Navy Seals.By the way, lest I forget, the language is the sort we all have come to expect from military heroes. It is coarse, but, the language is perfectly consistent with that I would expect to hear in situations similar to those in which these guys find themselves. Certainly it sounds more believable than the artificial cussing I came across in a recent sci-fi, Dark Space. One quote, in particular, has won a place in my lexicon. Until this book, I often found myself quoting a friend who liked to find something more interesting that that offered to him. He'd quip, "I think I'd rather pick fleas off my dead dog."My new favorite quip goes something like,(paraphrasing) "You boys look about as confused as my cat trying to bury his leavings on a frozen pond in the Dakotas."Granted, it is far funnier the way the author puts it, but Amazon doesn't permit such language on its review pages.I loved this book as a great relief from other recent stories. It is intense and studded with action throughout. Two observations that are not pertinent to the story:Too much of the front matter consists of promoting other books in the series. I prefer to delve straight into the reason I spent my hard earned money for.The back matter that ordinarily is promotion, though, is terrific. The author explains where and how he was inspired to show certain key points. I have not seen other writers do this so well and with so much class. As stated at the start, I can't believe it took me so long to find this series. Though I read book 10, it felt as good to me as a book one. Perhaps I shall feel different after I read the previous books, but right now I am a huge fan. Also, I don't know why this is not yet available at Audible, but, you can be sure I will be among the first to but the audio version.I can't wait for the movies.

The tenth "mainline" novel in the Arisen series hits like an aircraft carrier running into a continent!***Attention, mild spoilers ahead, trying to avoid, but this is 12 books into a series...***We catch up to our merry...run down...beat up...thoughtful...depressed...band of exceptional misfits as they continue on their mission TO SAVE THE WORLD! Following Cataclysm and Nemesis you have a good idea of what is in store for them in Africa and Europe. Zombies! Crazy Survivors! Nothing that they are looking for! More than what they want!Handon and Henno are still doing the mature thing, and squabbling like 15 year old boys. Predator needs some yogurt in his diet, stat. Juice is sleepy. The Marines probably need to let the zombies know they will be tagging in and out. The NSF group gets some cool turtle armor. Ali is nostalgic...well, not precisely, but she is back home.England and Russia get relatively short mention in this read, though the advancements they contribute to the story will be HUGE. Let's say Jameson is pleased with the burden of command and where it leads him. ;) Our crazy scientist makes his landing in Red Square and finds all sorts of welcoming arms to greet him.Our plucky security guard gets to lead an operation, and while it isn't flawless, to say the least, the unlikely team just might surprise. Good ol' Zorn is still EVER so helpful, Hailey flies some crazy CAS, and the Triple Nickel makes its triumphant movie quoting return!***SUPER SPOILER***paraphrase:Balding, gray eyed, hissing, death ferret things crawl out of the bush. Reyes: "hey fluffy, you look soooo cute!" Graybeard: "Idiot!" ARISEN, Book Ten - The Flood (Volume 10), by Michael Stephen Fuchs
