Written by the Grammy-nominated Howard Paar, Once Upon a Time in LA is a dark, thrilling ride deep into the lives of a megalomaniac record label chairman, mob-related radio promotion men, and a young band that gets sucked into the vortex. Once Upon a Time in LA has been released by Over the Edge Books with the book’s soundtrack available at http://bit.ly/oncesnd. The unique 70-song soundtrack for this book includes songs by The Clash, Isaac Hayes, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Kraftwerk, The New York Dolls, Patsy Cline, Primal Scream, George Jones, and many more. Fine art photographer Mona Kuhn shot the cover and is creating a companion series of iconic images from the story. This rock ‘n roll noir novel follows music exec James Dual as he battles ghosts of his past in watering holes from Hollywood to Nashville to Mexico. James finds himself quickly drawn into a web of blackmail, violence, and murder after he receives a cassette tape from a neo-noir femme fatale implicating him in a tragedy from 20 years ago. The story pulses with mythic songs and stories from when music defined reality and meant everything to those who gave their lives over to it.

I worked at a club on the strip during the 80's, and spent a fair amount of time at many of the local haunts mentioned. Reading the book, brought back a lot of memories. It's a page turning mystery, that introduces us to the world of exploitive label executives, music makers and a cast of interesting characters. I'm giving the other copies to my brother, a musician who played many of the clubs mentioned, and a friend who loves noir novels. I also just discovered that the soundtrack to the novel is available on Spotify. How cool is that! I'm looking forward to the next one. Once Upon a Time in LA

This book is everything that I want in a novel, it has sex, drugs, rock and roll, and By Paul Stewart This book is everything that I want in a novel, it has sex, drugs, rock and roll, and mystery, depth, wit, intrigue, and the most vivid descriptions that put me deep in the story unable to put it down until I finished it. Any fans of great mystery, noir, rock and roll, hollywood. suspense, thrillers will love this book! The joy derived from imagining LA during the flashback era's was Ecstasy for a lover of Los Angeles and the great literature that has been an ode to it. This book adds to the legacy of great written works that have been based in the city of Angels with a fresh yet so classic feel. This book gripped me, I can't recommend it enough!!

I'm a lazy reader in general, but this one hooked me and I spent my spare end-of-nights in succession reading until I finished it. The story is great, based enough on reality to be believable but with enough imagination to take it to some cool, weird places. The characters were well developed--anyone who has been in the music biz will be able to draw a number of parallels, anyone who hasn't will get a good vibe on what its denizens are like. The locations described make you feel very much that you are there in the midst of the action. The casting of the film version should be interesting!
