Is Bennett protecting or avenging Maggie for some reason, or does he have something altogether different on his mind?

By Wayne Stinnett, Down Island Press For the first time in my reading life, and that's like 50 years y'all, I actually stayed up until midnight to get a book. Actually, it was to make sure that a pre-ordered book was delivered to my Kindle. Bam! There it was. So, of course, I opened it. As the sun was rising, I finished it. Dawn McKenna's writing gets better with every word. Her characters are well rounded and quickly become friends. While reading, the setting unfolds in your mind like a painting, you can feel the sea breeze and smell the brine. I just pre-ordered the third book in the series, "What Washes Up" and now I'm going to bed.

I couldn't wait to get to it after reading the first in the series, and it definitely did not disappoint! Even better than Low Tide, this novel had so much depth and heart, mixed seamlessly with the heart-stopping suspense scenes. I'm absolutely hooked on this series, and I can't wait until book 3.

If she writes it, I'm going to buy it and read it without much thought about it. I was hooked while reading her first novel "See You", a fantastic, wonderful novel (see my review).When she began writing the Forgotten Coast Suspense series with Lt. Maggie Redmond ("Low Tide"), even though I'm not a mystery reader, I was hooked again. Just like this one, "Low Tide" is also a winner. You should read it, too!Just so you know, I don't ordinarily read mystery novels, so this review is not going to go into the mystery(-ies) or the investigation. I read mysteries and police procedurals, not for the mystery or some involved, in depth investigation. I read for the stories behind the characters or the policedepartment or the community. Mckenna weaves those little incendental stories about the characters, about the town, about the area, into the story of Maggie's investigations. I don't pay much attention to the "who-dun-it" issue, I love the stories woven around it all. And Dawn Lee McKenna does that with the best of them.I can't help but think that if you're an avid reader like me, you'll enjoy McKenna's novels. Buy them, read them, you'll enjoy them. "Riptide" easily earns the five-star rating from me. And don't forget "See You" and "Low Tide" - you'll like those, too.And yes, I've already bought the third suspense novel "What Washes Up".PatrickThree Great Novels in a Row!
