A DARPA scientist, with a proclivity for bio-weaponry and genocide, has gone missing in Istanbul. Art Sheppard, the new Chief of the CIA's Near East and South Asia Division, suspects the involvement of an arcane, international cabal referred to only as The Board. Sheppard's last encounter with the group was on the heals of a near-miss operation in Shanghai run by NCIS Special Agent Ruben Carver. A man with a reputation for heavy-handed conflict resolution and an uncanny survival instinct, who'd already faced The Board twice. With intelligence leaks in the Agency compromising his operation, Sheppard is approved to enlist the assistance of NCIS and Carver. The mission is to fly in, find the traitor, put the grabs on him and devise an extraction, without involving in-country CIA or military support. A simple plan complicated by The Board's own interest in retaining the scientist's services, along with his life's work: A bacterial agent, once weaponized, that is a potential planet killer. The Istanbul Agent is another wild ride for Ruben Carver. A fast-paced tale of intrigue that introduces his match in the form of an Israeli counterintelligence specialist. The kind of woman he wouldn't mind spending time with, if he doesn't catch his death first.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A damned fine read By claudette valliere Another great Rueben Carver read. Spoiler alert. This one starts with Dr. James Bennet. Bennet works for the US but is now on his way out of the country with the bio weapon he developed and intends to use.Bennet is socially inept but he's brilliant and the bio weapon he has developed will kill millions.Yves Moreau is his handler and has gotten him out of the America and to a university in Istanbul. The cellar of which is blocked against any contaminants escaping. Bennet is listed as a Professor and teach he does when he's not working on his bio weapon.Rueben Carver has been transferred from Japan. He's not to well liked after the dustup in the Far East and the bodies he left behind. Rueben doesn't care what anyone thinks and he's hoping his time at the Navy Yard will just be a smooth downward slide to retirement.Rueben is still knitting from a couple of bullet wounds and some dental work but he's looking forward to that smooth downward slide to retirement.Carver has plans to return to Japan and the half interest he owns in a bar there. His partner will have to manage the bar till Carver gets back. Barry, his partner, expressed serious interest in a physical security and executive protection startup. They'd run it out of the bar. This is something Carver is seriously considering.Henry Dever, the Special Agent in Charge of the NCIS Singapore Field Office has also been reassigned. He's now in Mexico. He's been there about four months.Dever is a graduate of the Field Office Training Course at Camp Peary. Henry was a CIA certified Case Officer trained in offensive intelligence collection tradecraft and was already well known in the "community" as an effective operator.Dever played host to Carver and his team in the Far East. It was a messy week in the Far East hence Devers transfer to Mexico. Little does he know he and Carver will be working together again. So begins one damned fine read. This one has Carver, a Carver who's cold as ice under fire, a Carver who's a brilliant tactician with only one thing on his mind during a firefight, that being how to kill the other guy, a Carver who's the best at what he does, Dever as Carvers handler, Art Sheppard, the Chief of the Near East and South Asia Division, a man who got some atta boys from Carvers last mission hence his promotion, Dr. Bennet, Yves Moreau, the Board, an Art Sheppard who had first met Carver in Vietnam when Carver appeared out of the woods and saved his and his men's asses, a Carver who was way more than just a Marine, a mission for Carver, the mission being to find Dr. Bennett, National Security, a Yves Moreau who knows Bennet is up to something, the Board who doesn't, Ryan Henderson, a woman named Medleva, Adan Hanna the man on the ground in Istanbul and Carvers partner for the mission, Hanna who's an ex marine, a Greek fishing boat and it crew, a woman named Rivka Levitan who works for Shin Bet and Israel, and old friend of Carvers from Japan, murder, destruction and Rueben Carver doing his best to bring back Bennet his invention wrassle a few alligators and save the damned day.Five Stars.

By Amazon Customer For those who want the gruesome reality and nitty-gritty details of the action, equipment, places, and people, this book has it all. With all the recent news surrounding waves of terrorism of increasing complexity and impact, Jeff weaves a story surrounding a very sinister group with ill intentions to the peace of the world, and a NCIS hero who tries to stop them. Without spoiling the plot, this plays to the fear if terrorism gets more sophisticated and what it could mean is not good. This hero's adventure is part of a continuing series, however you can jump right in at any point. This one is quite graphic in detail, and not for the faint of heart. An interesting action story that goes and kicks some, yet takes some jaw crunching punches in the process. Detail freaks will get their fill for sure.

I was intrigued about this because it involves an NCIS agent and I enjoy the series with Mark Harmon. I also visited Turkey while in the Army many years ago. The author writes with good clarity and the story flows well. The action is very good, and the dangerous threat is real even today. I like the fact there is a female agent working with the main character too. The flirtations between them add flair. It's a fast read, full of suspense and adventure. You'll enjoy it if you like mainstream fiction.David Lucero, author
