By Vera Machado Trina Clemons and Slade Edmunds couldn't be more different: she follows all the rules, is extremely organized and loves schedules; he is a slacker, a player and loves to go with the flow. But now they are going to spend the summer together as the nannies of two 5 year-olds.Although at first their partnership seems to be difficult, as the time passes they get to know each other and a relationship starts to blossom. But they are keeping secrets from each other, both from their pasts and how they got the nanny job.How will they react when they find out the truth?Playing the Player is an awesome YA book. The story is very captivating and I couldn't stop reading it. It has everything a good YA book must have: drama, angst and lots of funny and awkward moments.Trina and Slade are total opposites, but they really complement each other. I loved the chemistry between them.A tragic event in Trina's past made her a very cautious person that likes to have a plan to the unexpected. She loves her mother and to fight for the underdogs. I loved how she started to let loose and have more confidence in herself after spending time with Slade and the kids.Slade is a bad boy slacker and a player. He had his heart broken by a girl before and now he doesn't believe in falling in love, but he has a big heart. He becomes more responsible after spending time with Trina and the kids and I loved to see how much he changed.Max and Gillian are awesome! I loved them! Like Trina and Slade, they're total opposites but they're best friends.Overall, Playing the Player is an awesome YA book. Lisa Brown Roberts wrote a fantastic story that keeps the reader wanting more and created great characters that make the reader connect with them. Can't wait read more of her work!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Really cute and sweet. By ShannonVM 4.5*Although I am quite past the age demographic that I’m sure this book is intended for I have to say I really enjoyed it! It’s a very sweet, fun, highly entertaining read.Trina and Slade are soon-to-be high school seniors who are spending their summer as nannies to 2 5 year olds. Unbeknownst to Slade, the mothers have conspired together to offer Slade this job, as his mother wants Trina to “mentor” him- she’s worried that he has no direction in life and no real sense of responsibility. Trina is an honor roll student, she’s organized, and completely responsible…the exact type of person Slade’s mom feels he needs as an example. These 2 are the perfect foil for each other- Trina is by-the-book, scheduled, a rule follower; Slade is laid-back, takes things as they come, flies by the seat of his pants. They both have qualities and characteristics that the other could definitely benefit from. As the summer progresses we see this happening, especially as Slade is able to get Trina to loosen up a bit, and as he sees things in Trina that make him realize that maybe life as he’s been living it isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.This book is just plain cute, the story and the characters. I adored both Trina and Slade as individuals, as they worked as partners, as they fell for each other. I was right there with Trina, trying not to fall under Slade’s spell, but how could you not?!? A boy who loved chick flicks? Had long haired he tied back in a pony-tail? Muscled and tan?!? Resistance was futile!”I was pretty sure this was what it felt like to swoon. I’d always thought it was some made-up word in old romance novels, but now I had proof it was real.”And watching Slade fall for Trina? Ahhh, just priceless! The little fairy completely flipped his world around, making him feel things he had never felt before. ”God, I was toast. Burned beyond recognition.” I mean, how adorable was he???The 2 kids are darling- Gilly is a little spit-fire and Max is a sweetie; the best friends are everything what you’d want and need in a bff.It wouldn’t be a true-to-life book about teen-agers if there wasn’t a little angst and drama between the 2 protagonists, but I’m glad to see with this book it wasn’t a long drawn-out process. There was nothing over-the-top thankfully, no unnecessary added complications, just the issues you knew would cause trouble from the beginning- because secrets never stay hidden. Everything was handled in a very realistic way, Trina and Slade acted as you’d think teens would act- avoidance, denial, tears.Playing the Player is definitely a book I'd recommend for teens, and even for those of us long past the teen years...it's just that good! It brought to mind some of the best teen movies from the 80s, and what's not to love about those! Thanks to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Playing the Player.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Amazing! By Hadassah Plot/Characters: Playing the Player a good, light, summery read. Slade is funny, and Trina is admirable. Obviously, the storyline follows the “bad-boy” who falls for the “good-girl”, but who does not like that in a book? I saw Slade’s character to be inspired. He was great with the kids. Granted he went from one girl to the next, but perhaps he did not realize what he was looking for until Trina set of sparks. My Honest Opinions/Thoughts: This book was amazing! I loved the concept, and the characters were just, umph! I love Slade and Trina. I have never actually read a book quite like this, and that made me love it even more. The plot was refreshing, and I loved reading it. I also will be keeping an eye open for more of Lisa Brown Roberts’ work.http://haddieshaven.blogspot.com/2015/07/playing-player-entangled-crush-review.html

When down-to-earth, seventeen year old Amelia Leonard is dragged to get her fortunes told, she expects to have her palms read by some big-haired hippie with a clichéd name like Madame Fortune, not have her aura read and soul touched by a man named Chris, so the lack of theatrics combined with detailed insight to her personal life results in Amelia’s unexpected belief that Chris’s unbelievable predictions may come true—that she will meet the man of her dreams nine days after her death; though she remains unsure how she’ll be able to fall in love once she’s dead, she is convinced that she only has weeks to live. 9 LIVES follows Amelia’s journey as she comes to terms with her inevitable demise, eventual murder, recreation of herself and her tangled love affairs with two different men—the man she’s destined to be with and the man she loves despite all of the odds.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I Couldnt Put it Down By W.T.Hoffman What a fun book to read. I couldn't put it down. Carly Huss's newest novel "9 LIVES" reminds me of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series. You have a novel written in the first person, as the Sookie books were, concerning a full figured girl with a secret identity that she doesn't even understand, which takes place in a small southern town called Lewisville. Also like the Sookie books, the heroine of the novel, Amelia, must decide between two suitors, both of whom would take her life on a different path. I hope it isn't giving too much away, to suggest the book is about shape shifters, with the "9 LIVES" title suggesting cats. The plot isn't convoluted, nor are there an abundance of characters to track. Since the novel is essentially a romance with fantasy overtones about a 17 year old girl, I believe the Young Adult market would love the book. Amelia's awakening to adulthood, and various responsibilities that this entails, as well as the heavy hand of fate, are the primary themes here. There's no steamy sex scenes described, more like first kiss material. Huss's style also doesn't employ profanity, making this a novel anybody could read without offense. My only critique would concern the ending. A lot happens in the last few pages, with many major characters left dangling. Hopefully this suggests another novel in the series, so we can see what happens to the Fila kingdom, and if Veronica ever succeeds in her diabolical scheming against Queen Nikki, not to mention what happens to the Prince of Foxxes, or Amelia's brother.

Many of the ancient prophets that were able to predict the future foretold that the world would end on May 5, 2000. All of them, if they had lived within the same time period, would agree that the end would be one of cataclysmic proportions. Many predicted that the end would be caused by a natural disaster, some predicted a plague would wipe out the human race, and others predicted that a third world war would be the cause of Earth’s destruction. Fortunately they were all wrong, about the date and year at least. In fact, it was an ancient Race who we called Vampires. They didn't need Human blood for nourishment, they needed it to escape extinction. That, which courses through our veins and gives us life was also the fuel they needed to return to their planet.

Read Online Ebook Slow Rider: Australia on a Postie Bike and a 125 cc Motorbike, by Jill Maden

In 2014 Jill Maden returns to Australia to finish the trip she started in 2010 (as described in Excess Baggage). She rides a Postie Bike from Brisbane to Adelaide via the epic Birdsville Track. Then, on a Honda CB125e, she rides across the vast Nullarbor Desert to Perth, and onwards to Darwin. With a minuscule budget, badly injured hands and a top speed of just 80 km/h, she slowly makes her way through Australia’s immense landscape. Hampered by gale force winds, dust storms, torturous heat and near-death experiences, Jill begins to wonder if she has bitten off more than she can chew. Written with humour, honesty and eloquence, this is not just the tale of one woman’s foolhardy attempt to ride around Australia on tiny, low-powered motorcycles, but a unique insight into the country’s exquisite natural beauty, its historical development and the warmth and generosity of its people.

Slow Rider: Australia on a Postie Bike and a 125 cc Motorbike, by Jill Maden

About the Author Jill Maden first started riding motorcycles in 2004 after her friend's husband took her down the Great Ocean Road in Australia on the back of his Triumph Sprint. She enjoyed the experience so much she decided to learn how to ride a motorbike. In 2006 she and a friend rode their bikes over to Finland and back. This was the start of a series of motorcycle adventures and in 2010 she rode a giant Suzuki SV650 solo across Australia, from south to north. Her first book, "Excess Baggage" tells the story of this trip. In 2014 she returned to Australia, this time on bikes no bigger than 125 cc and rode from Brisbane to Adelaide via the epic Birdsville Track, before crossing the Nullarbor Desert to Perth and onwards to Darwin (as told in her second book "Slow Rider"). When not travelling or riding motorcycles, Jill runs industrial heritage tours around Glasgow.
