But even if you haven't been, you can still get the experience from reading this book!It is so well written, and displays the cultural differences in a humorous light-hearted way...you'll find yourself laughing out loud at some of the author's experiences! It is informative as well and I found myself talking to my Bengali friends about it on a daily basis while I was reading it.This is truly one of the more enjoyable books I have read in a long time.

I'll be keeping this in my permanent library By Tracy B The authors experience in Bangladesh mirrored my month long Bangladesh stay in many many ways. If you think Anne is exaggerating, she's not! If anything, words fall short of capturing the richness of the experience, the sights, the sounds, the smells, the humidity!No one goes to Bangladesh for vacation. I'm thinking maybe more people should because there is something about this country and these people that makes one simply fall deeply and passionately in love with both the country and it's people. Read this book before you go, then again after you come home.

Wonderful Story By Oak Tree In A Blonde Bengali Wife, Anne Hamilton tells her story of traveling to Bangladesh as part of a volunteer work program – and falling in love with the country and its people. The book is well-written, and Hamilton’s lively description and dialogue bring life to the pages. In essence, the book is very enjoyable to read! Through Hamilton’s writing, I definitely learned a lot about the culture of Bangladesh. However, it’s not just a great story – the book also promotes a charity; all proceeds from A Blonde Bengali Wife go to the UK charity Bhola’s Children, which supports disabled children on Bangladesh’s Island of Bhola.I received a copy for review.

I lived in Germany for a couple of years and this brought back a lot of the words I had forgotten. This book would be good for someone who is just getting started learning German or for someone who is planning to travel there. The book has a detailed guide in speaking the basic phrases (giving polite greetings, asking for directions, and ordering at restaurants), which I will help a tourist. The book is very good for a beginner and contained basic words and phrases that you will need. The book is easy to read.

What a wonderful way to end the week with a special deliver from Amazon! I tore open the package and read the book "To Your Greatness" aloud to myself yesterday (gulping at times and with a tissue in hand) and let the Greatness wash over me! At the dinner table last night, after our family grace (a'la "Thank you for the world so sweet...") we introduced a new toast at the end - "To Our Greatness!" Our kiddos love toasting and clinking their glasses! I then read the book aloud to our stellar kiddos and I could feel the LOVE and GREATNESS washing over them with each word. I proudly made it to the last page without a tear, but those last words, "....When I'm not with you and you see a bright start, just think of the light as my cheer from afar..." really took my breath away (my loving husband said he couldn't have even made it that far without getting choked up!). It reminds us as parents, that it's our job to remind them of their GREATNESS so they can grow up to feel valued, worthy, and loved. We then went around the table and asked each of them how the book made them feel and they said: LOVED, GREAT, SPECIAL, and WARM INSIDE. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A beautiful book in so many ways By Amazon Customer I saw this book mentioned by someone on Facebook, and I knew immediately I had to have it. I wasn't sure exactly what the book would contain, but I was familiar with the artist and love her work. After being introduced to The Nurtured Heart Approach years ago, and watching it work miracles in my home, I was especially interested in whatever message the book might contain. Happily, the book exceeded my expectations in every way. The artwork, colors, and patterns on every page are as deliciously mood enhancing as the finest chocolate. I mean, the artwork is absolutely yummy. The text consists of one positive message after another written in a lyrical flow that speaks to the heart. I believe the book may have been written for children, but it is meaningful to anyone. Page 23 is one of my favorite pages and speaks a truth that is incredibly important regardless of the reader's age. To Your Greatness is 33 pages of pure gold. It's a book I will want to read over and over again, anytime I need a lift.

Abridged edition, still worth reading By Aardvark Book Depot The HiLo Books/Radium Age edition is abridged from the 1920 edition, as noted after the copyright notice: "We have excised a few passages in order to arrive at a more manageable length." The original only runs a little over 300 pp, so I'm not sure why it would be unmanageable. Having said this, I think it is a worthwhile read, but probably better in an uncut Print On Demand version. Shanks is an intelligent observer and a good writer who seems to know what he is doing, although you might not like it much. This book, like most sci fi, is very much a reflection of the time in which it was written. In 1920, 2 years after the end of the horrors and destruction of WWI, Shanks is deeply pessimistic about the future of humanity and the nature of human beings. Like many sci fi writers, even contemporary ones (who shall remain nameless), he was bound by the social attitudes of his time, and he was not able to imagine a world where relations between the sexes have advanced.

I'm an unsure that I would actually categorize it as science fiction but that is how it is marketed. A man in the early 1920's is accidently hit by a ray and finds himself about 150 years in the future.The writing is clean and moves fast. Knowledge from his time has been lost making him valuable. The Bolshevic revolution colors some of Shanks' vision of the future. This book is mainly important to see what was being written before the golden age of science fiction. It is sometimes funny that Shanks did not envision any changes in more than the technology of the future. After all, suffragists were active and had been for more than 40 years.

By Splashes Into Books Rating: 4.5/5OK, I’ve left my teenage years well behind now but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a great teen novel – and this is one such story. With well written characters, plenty of teenage angst, a mystery to solve and relationships to explore this is a story full of twists, turns and incidents to keep the reader, whatever their age, entertained.Sloane Whitaker is forced to move for her senior year from her home in New York to Austin. She resents the move but knows it is her own fault because of the ‘Incident’, which has left her with a police record. Her father and brother have stayed in New York so she’s determined to get back on her Mum’s good side so the two of them can move back asap!The two have moved into the house next door to her Mum’s BFF college friend but the friend has warned Sloane’s Mum about her son, Tru, so Sloane has also been warned to steer clear of involvement with him. A bit difficult for graphic artist Sloane when he jumps up to join her on the roof outside her bedroom on her first day in her new home, then the Head at her new school sets him on as her school guide! As if that wasn’t bad enough, he’s cute, attractive and she’s finding him hard to resist.Sloane has her own secrets – including the ‘Incident’ and her online graphic work. Tru also has secrets and is nothing like Sloane had been led to believe. When members of the senior graphic art class start being targeted by malicious events, Sloane and Tru need to work together to expose the perpetrator before she, too, succumbs to their malicious actions.Where new friends aren’t always what they seem, this story explores relationships, starting at a new school, physical abuse, secrets, solving mysteries and has a hint of romance. It is an enthralling read which I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into.Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.

I remember requesting it originally and knowing it sounded good but I randomly decided to read it one night on my kindle.And I thought it was a cute story! We are introduced to Sloane who has gotten into some trouble at her old school so her mother uproots her and they decide to go away for a little while so Sloane can start over. New school, new friends, new life.Sloane and her mother move into a nice little house next door to her mom’s old friend. She has a son named Tru. Tru is popular and a good guy. But even though people believe he’s a good guy he gets into a lot of trouble. And he’s mischievous. Sloane’s mom tells her to stay away from him!I just knew from the first night he jumped up on her roof things were gonna be crazy! And sweet, and romantic. Tru and Sloane become friends and someone ends up doing the exact same thing at Sloane’s new school that she got into trouble for at the old school. And, of course some blame Tru. The culprit turns out to be the person I thought it may be. Kind of suspected that.I really did enjoy this one. I thought it was cute and I enjoyed getting to know Tru and Sloane both.Overall: This one was a very fast read for me. And though it does have some deep lessons it was a cute and fun read. I just loved learning about Sloane’s art but I also liked seeing Tru’s deep personality! Very nice! I'd probably rate this between a 3.5 and 4 cupcake rating!Cover: Love it! I’d pick it up. I literally found myself liking the two main characters and felt that these were two people who are trying to deal with what life has thrown at them. Both Sloane and Tru are two teenagers who have some pretty serious things to contend with. Sloane and Tru know that nothing is ever what it seems.I really found that Sloane seems to be someone who has to start over. No one wants to start over, especially her. She has been forced to move to Texas with her mother for her senior year. There are new rules and restrictions. We get told what she did was extremely bad. I like that she is really trying hard not to lose her cool. Her mother says that our actions have consequences not just for ourselves, but others as well. I think that Sloane has a very hard road ahead of her.Tru also has secrets of his own. He likes his new neighbor and thinks that she is going to make things interesting. Sloane immediately thinks that he is quite a pain to be really honest. The way they talked and acted right from the start was so definitely real. I think that Tru likes to project a different front to the outside world rather than the one he is dealing with at home. His father abuses him physically but makes sure that no one can see the signs of it. It weighs on him heavily at times. I think that he realizes that this is a bad situation but because of his father being in a position of power, that no one might believe him.The chemistry between Sloane and Tru is interesting. I like that the author decided to take time to develop their friendship before getting them into a relationship. I like that both Sloane and Tru really develop that first. The other thing that I like is that they both go to the same school and find out that they both have different forms of art. They also seem to have some of the same group of people they hang out with. There is a huge kinship that develops between the two of them. I really love how Sloane tells him and Aimleigh what she did in New York. It was an action that was stupid because it got other people fired and without a job. Not to mention she is here in Texas now. Tru gains new respect for her.Also the other thing that I enjoyed about this book was how the relationships they have with other people like their parents changes and evolves in very realistic ways. I also like how Sloane tells off at one point Tash that she is being selfish and that their actions had consequences. Tash is her best friend from New York. It was interesting to see that people are growing as characters. Also we learn that someone is doing some things to the other girls in the school. We learn some surprising things about Aimleigh. Aimleigh has been good friends with Sloane, but Sloane realizes that she is not a good person after a few things happened.I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.Rating:Four Hearts
