(Lynn the Kazak) As a member of the deadly Kazak Guardians Lynn's life is now filled to the brim with adventure and mayhem. Lynn outwits and out shoots everyone who tries to kill her assigned clients. One of the best books I have read in a long time. The first book of this series was great and this is a worthy addition.

This book seemed like a collection of short stories pieced together. While the writing was good and fluid, and very enjoyable to read in each chapetr, I had a tough time making coherent sense out of the book. Or did I miss the book before it that explained everything? At first, I thought it was a book about good body-guards fending off psychic assassins, and I expected a bit deeper explanation of the assassins and their skills. Concepts like a psionic mind control assassin who manage to convince people into believing black is white are brought up, used, and discarded in about three paragraphs. Ditto with assassins that can shape-shift. Ditto for assassins who can...I mean, really - there is the totally unanswered question about where these assassin recruiting centers are, how they work, etc. The author spends a reasonable amount of time going through the training of the protector types - assassins are just as interesting. Heck, the protectors even have an assassin ranking - i.e. how many they have killed. So doesn't that imply some sort of secret war between two groups? And there is nothing in there - not even a hint - on how society caused a group of bodyguards with an unlimited license to kill and above any law except their own internal review ever came to happen. The whole point about describing a really weird society is to at least give some hints how it happened...And what's the point of spending so much time describing the vacations? Maybe just interconnecting words between chapters? I dunno...I'm gonna try to read the first book and see if makes any sense.

I really like the way Daems uses a vignette style of writing because it is not burdensome and allows for the delivery of a lot of information and back story. I like the character development and the thread of humor which has been consistent. I look forward to the next book ... if there is one.
