He is on the run from the drug cartel.Here is the opening:“Will he live?” asked Justice Department Special Agent Ron Thompson.“Most people wouldn’t have survived the blood loss,” replied Doctor Suarez. “He’s stable and there’s a chance if he makes it through the night. What do you know about him?”“Nothing I can tell you.”“I understand he’s under the Justice Department protection, but he’ll need to be kept here for several days if he’s to survive.”With that opening, our main character of mystery, a man who has had his face and identity changed, goes back to the town he grew up in and left before he graduated from high school.As the story develops the reader finds out that this man now called Keith Overton goes into protective custody identity.The idea of a man going back to a little town he left so abruptly thirty years ago is a good setting for this character. We get to know a little about him as he makes friends and develops his sign shop business.He hires the daughter of a high school sweetheart and encourages her in her art-work at his sign shop and in her relationships with her parents. He makes friends and fits into the community.Everything is going well for him until a snoopy attorney puts a request for information about him through the national data banks. Then the cartel finds him and there is a confrontation.I enjoyed the book. I give it a four out of five because there were several points in the plot that I felt needed to be a little more developed. For example it turns out that he is in on planning to lure the drug lord to the little town. This is not well developed. Why would you bring them to a place you once considered home. Then there is the ending, he doesn’t die, but the loose ends are wrapped up like we are hearing a will. So that’s my opinion. I was provided a copy of this book for my honest review.

I enjoy reading Harwell's novels and getting to know his characters. Being from the area where the novel is set (but not from the time period) I tried to picture what the buildings and people looked like. The characters are based on some of the area's residents (if you are from Poteau and don't recognize a couple, I will be surprised). Anyway, if you like a good drama with a bit of romance, I think you'll like Izzy Cavanal.

Rory's reactions to the dangers around him and the cartel hunting him are believable, and his character is sympathetic enough that you're rooting for him to get away from them. The relationships between Rory and the people of his hometown are realistic and vividly related. The plot is solid, the story is told well, and the reader falls a little in love with Rory for being a wonderful mentor for Sasha.

Rohan is one of the select few living in luxury while he trains to father the next generation of humanity under the strict guiding hands of the United American Territories government. Unbeknownst to him, his mother had been keeping a few secrets and now he's caught up in a whirlwind while trying to flee a system that will stop at nothing to maintain the status quo.With his mother's encrypted data in hand, the only one he can trust is his brash boyhood friend, Kaden, who willingly goes with his friend to help him, but there's a heavy price to be paid by both boys for defying the powers that be.The good.The story itself is well written, doesn't bog down at any point and the action scenes are paced almost perfectly. The main protagonist is a complex character that I found myself rooting for despite the astronomical odds against him, and the setbacks he has to endure.The bad.There was a dark scene that was hard for me to stomach. I don't mean to imply that you should steer clear of the book because of that, but it was something that stuck with me for a long time.The ugly.Nothing ugly, would highly recommend to anyone that likes futuristic settings and underdogs fighting to overcome long odds. Oh, there is a homosexual relationship in the story, though ... so those with closed minds and delicate sensitivities about that might not like it. For the rest of us, the relationship is a key part of the story and really enhances it. (And there's nothing I would call pornographic in the least.)

I am eagerly anticipating the next installment in Rohan and Kaden’s saga. Together these two teenagers changed their world. But they still have so much work to do.Rohan and Kaden’s story is set in a future where the Y chromosome has undergone enough mutation to render the large majority of males infertile. Rohan and Kaden are both breeders. Two of a very elite group who aren’t. As men in general have become less and less useful in procreation, they have also become less and less well thought of. Society has essentially switched from the patriarchal society we know and loathe to a purely matriarchal one. What’s more the women in power have become corrupted by that power and will stop at nothing to ensure their role in society never changes.Kaden and Rohan are in love. A love that is forbidden them. More importantly, they are best friends and loyal to each other to the end of the world. They are each other’s everything after having both of their families ripped from them — under very different circumstances. In their world “breeders” are wards of the government. They are no longer sons. They are no longer allowed to be objects of affection. They are simply a dick and sperm and are considered a commodity. It about broke my heart when that commodity had to be used in their quest by someone unworthy.There are delightful twists and turns along the boys’ journey. There are heartbreaking moments and breath catching moments. There are pages that will keep you on the edge of your proverbial seat. Y is a fast paced, action filled adventure story set in a world at war. The entire story takes place over only about two days. 48 hours is all it takes for two teenagers to upend completely the world in which they live. The only world they have ever known.This is Taylor’s first novel. It has some rough spots that could be smoothed out with a good editor, but the story transcends those issues. I was never pulled from the page by them. That is everything to me. If you follow my reviews, you know I don’t give five stars lightly. That should tell you something about this story.There are themes in this novel that may make a few people uncomfortable. However, I never found them to be out of line for the story. Heartbreaking, yes, but necessary for the message the author was trying to convey.This is not a romance. Don’t think for a second it is. This is a young adult science fiction novel, and hopefully the start of a series that can take LGBT fiction into the mainstream.After you finish Y, the author has an equally fantastic prequel available on his Wattpad for free [...]. I recommend reading Y first, however, because the prequel contains a few spoilers for Y that are better experienced from Rohan’s point of view first.

This was a wonderfully fast paced roller coaster of wonder!I am not usually a huge fan of the fast paced Sci-fi genre being more of a fantasy reader in habit, but a good friend of mine told me I should read it and so I did… I've got to say this was a pleasant surprise. I read this book front to back in one sitting. That speaks volumes in itself.In the beginning it teases you with the prospect of being your normal day to day page out of the life about a normal teenager with normal teenager problems…And then, before you can blink you’re in freefall.The story just pulls you immediately into its depths and refuses to let go. You will feel like a part of this world, you will become attached to its characters. You will laugh with them, cry with them, and yell with/at them. And when you reach that dreaded last page you will yell at the book itself for not being longer, and then go find the novelette prequel the author wrote just like I did =)

About the Author Rafael Sabatini, creator of some of the world’s best-loved heroes, was born in Italy in 1875 to an English mother and Italian father, both well-known opera singers. He was educated in Portugal and Switzerland, but at seventeen moved to England, where, after a brief stint in the business world, he started to write. Fluent in a total of five languages, he nonetheless chose to write in English, claiming that ‘all the best stories are written in [that language]’. His writing career was launched with a collection of short stories, followed by several novels. Fame, however, came with Scaramouche, the much-loved story of the French Revolution, which became an international bestseller. Captain Blood followed soon after, which resulted in a renewed enthusiasm for his earlier work which were rushed into reprint. For many years a prolific writer, he was forced to abandon writing in the 1940’s through illness and eventually died in 1950. Sabatini is best remembered for his heroic characters and high-spirited novels, many of which have been adapted into classic films, including Scaramouche, Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk. They appeal to both a male and female audience with drama, romance and action, all placed in historical settings. It was once stated in the Daily Telegraph that ‘one wonders if there is another storyteller so adroit at filling his pages with intrigue and counter-intrigue, with danger threaded with romance, with a background of lavish colour, of silks and velvets, of swords and jewels.’

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Had to read it twice - It was that good! By Augustine Rivera This is Sabatini at his finest. I just couldn't put this book down. As a matter of fact, it was so stimulating that I had to reread it. There are some typographical errors in the printing, but that is easily overlooked. Sabatini is only 2nd to Alexandre Dumas and his writing is poetical, romantic with a flair of class. There are no writers today that can ever top him.

By Matthew Wilkins I gotta say, as you progress through these books you can see how the author not only grows his characters, but how his writing abilities continue to grow. Each book is better than the last and really truly is exciting. This is one of those stories I could picture in my head as a movie playing out (a sign of great writer). This could definitely be made into a movie. Support up and coming artist Matthew Taylor and you won't be disappointed. The price is so little for something so great. True value here.Also the bonus short story is very exciting and further proof of the story telling ability growth of the author.

Spanning multiple types of locales from Crowded claustrophobic urban sprawls to dense jungles brimming with Allen life, it also explores various literary tropes including fascist galactic governments, ragtag rebel rogues, and exotic natura threats. While this book won't make you contemplate your own existence you can at least revel in its decadent fictional backdrops and frenetic action packed fights and chases. Enjoy, my fellow kindlers.

Lange This book was our main resource in planning a spring break trip to New Orleans for my family (2 adults, 4 & 5 yr. old boys). There is a surprising amount of activities for young children in New Orleans and this book helped us to plan a trip that would cater to them. I only take away one star because the restaurant recommendations weren't quite for us. We were looking for mostly lower cost, kid-friendly places. While there were a few of those listed, there wasn't the 5 days worth of recommendations we needed. An attraction map was mis-labeled too, so I've notified the publisher. All in all, a great tool for planning a trip to New Orleans - highly recommended.

It is an eventful, suspenseful, and thrilling book with a few twists to it/ So glad I got it. Recommend it highly for all over about 6th grade level. The only reason I say that age is the disaster part of it may be a little much for those younger. It is definitely a family book.

It is a bit of a slow burn to start with, taking slightly more than half of the book to set the scene and establish the characters. This would be fine in a full length novel, but its slightly slow for a novella.The Disaster in the title is some extreme weather, predicted early by a teenage weather forecaster. Dick Travis was orphaned by a tornado as a small child. In his final year of high school he is a keen meteorologist, supported by one of his teachers. The teacher in question was his father's best friend growing up. There's quite a bit of back story established in the early part of the book.That said when the storm finally hits then the pace picks up and there's plenty of action, obstacles and tension. It worked for me and I flew through the second half of Disaster at Havendale faster than it took to read the first half. Mostly the story is told from Dick's point of view, but there are other viewpoints used when it helps the plot along. None of this feels forced. Dick is a real all action hero, and is the character with 90% of the agency in Disaster at Havendale. He anticipates the storm and sounds the alert before it comes officially, then he does his best to save everyone in the school. He's also the one organising the escape and overcoming most of the obstacles.

I just finished this book and find myself pleased with the book as a whole By Amazon Customer I've never written a review in this context before, so forgive me if I ramble as I so often tend to do.I just finished this book and find myself pleased with the book as a whole. It made for a quick read, something that fit into my schedule and that was able to keep my attention throughout--which can be difficult in my busy, busy life. I found myself wishing there was a bit more time for character development, that but that would have taken away from the "quick read" that I am so fond of. I like the story line, and like that it left a few questions unanswered, allowing for a sequel. I can't wait to see how these things turn out!If I were to have a criticism, it would only be the changing between referring to characters by their first name and then the last name. Because of the quickness of the story line, it was somewhat distracting trying to remember which character was being talked about. Other than that, I was pleased with the writing style, the story line, and yes, the character development. I am particularly fond of things that can keep my attention, and this book did just that.Overall, I will definitely recommend this book to my friends that love to read. :)

I was happy to see it included in this handy nightlife guide. Everything is right, the music moves right through you and your body loses control. The drink prices really are outrageous but you'll have such a good time that the cost of drinks is worth every penny. The book is great for locals but it's also the perfect tourist guide.

By Candace Robinson First off Love in a Time of Monsters is one of my favorite books from this year. I was pretty excited to learn there was going to be a prequel from Liam's POV, and it did not disappoint. I don't know if I am supposed to dislike him, but I just couldn't. He definitely has his issues, but I still like him. This book now has me desperately needing the sequel! I want Waverly and Jim!

From what I've read (Black Heart, Red Ruby and Love In A Time of Monsters) it's def got Yea's writing style all over it. Her writing is what keeps you engrossed in every page. Dark, sharp, fast-paced, action packed while seamlessly weaving in humor and SUPER sexy times.Once again, I'm so immersed in her book so much that it feels like a movie. If Quentin Tarantino wrote New Adult/Adult Fantasy, it'd be a lot like this book. I'll miss Cat and Liam until she puts out another in this series.Highly recommend this and the series. Can't wait for her next book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Risqué moments By Mo Men Teresa Yea has done it again. It begins with Liam training Cat to be a monster hunter. There are still some secrets to uncover layer in the book and in Teresa's first novel Love in the Time of Monsters. This time, it is through Liam's perspective as he is on a mission and training Kitty as he calls Cat (protégé). There are some risqué moments through the book that would surprised the reader but bringing in excitement. It connects the dots between Love in Time of Monsters and Empire of Sand between the relationship of Cat and Liam. Definitely a book I recommend people to read as it is not like any book I have read before.

Zoe was the clean-up girl and the weapons specialist; she made everything appear just as it was after the mission was done, and if she needed to lay a bomb or two she did it with glee, which is why they hadn’t been busted to date. Gianna was the brains behind the operation, scouting out the right prospect, mounting the team, giving the orders and delivering the results, she was the leader.

By Mike Brinkerhoff Great story, Great characters who were well developed to the point that I cared about them and had a hard time stopping each time I resumed reading... For that reason, I actually took longer to finish this book than most that I read, because I wouldn't even bother if I didn't feel like I'd have at least an uninterrupted hour. And in my life, uninterrupted hours are hard to come by!So yeah, very good pacing, action, description, logic, enough twists to keep you thinking you've figured out what's coming next, followed by the shock of being wrong, and thinking "THIS TIME" you've got it figured out, only to once again, feel your head spinning as the clues reveal just how far off you were.Can't wait for the next installment!!

The author does a great job with making sure the reader can understand what is happening in the story. Time travel can be a confusing topic to read about, but I never felt lost while reading this book. The scenes and characters were easily created in my mind with the help of the author's descriptive writing. I love the characters, and the ending will shock you. I can't wait to read part two!

The plot was interesting and flowed smoothly through-out the story. The author built the characters well enough that I cared for each one for different reasons, and worried when they made stupid mistakes. The book had a little of everything. Even humor, which I love. There is quite a bit of imagination, and wow what a twist. Can't wait for the next book.
